If they want out of a job, teaching or coaching & the planets are aligned just right, you can get out of it. There are endless scenarios that will allow this to happen. I switched schools after teaching the first week of school at one school & moved to another school. I had informed my principal the entire time of my job search that I was wanting the move & they supported me ( In the end it was the best for both of us, since I was not happy with my situation & they perceived me as not being in their camp) Most building leaders will let you go if you don't want to be there, because at that point, they might not want you there either. :no:

How much does Mercer County return compared to how much GRC returns. Obviously from his previous stops Cook can get it done. Tremendously impressive resume. Should be interesting. Lots of time the coach is only as good as the players he is coaching. I have to agree Cook does a great job of assembling a high school team, interesting how just by coincidence players seem to move to the school he is coaching?? X's and O's are a lot easier when you have play makers at multiple positions. Maybe over coached in the sweet sixteen the ball was in Faulkner's hands with 11 seconds to go, why call time out?? Just saying

I was thinking that but I have also found other games online to watch of theirs as well. Tough draw if I remember correctly. I'm not from Ky but do follow fairly closely.

That certainly does make things easier for sure. I won several state titles here in Fl when I had guys who went, D-2 or juco as opposed to nobody going to college on any level. I was impressed though by him also having the records at the 2 previous schools he was a head coach at before MC. The timeout deal for me anyway is more of a gut feeling. We as coaches definitely over coach at times and we also under coach at times too. It is a thankless job for sure, but I don't think there is an absolute in late game situations. I have my beliefs on O & D and things we teach and work on so we are prepared but 7 of our 10 losses last year came on the last possession which to me had much more to do with 5 of my top 8 being sophomores and 2 more being juniors, so hopefully that helps remedy itself in those situations this coming season.

1.) Only one player(family) moved to Mercer County after Cook got to Mercer County and that player left before the year was over because his dad got the job that caused them to move in the first place. Malik Dow was coming to Mercer County whether Coach Cook came there or not. That's a fact.

 

2.) It's been said before and been said again that he has second guessed himself on calling that timeout. At the same time, the ball was put in Will Hager's hands. Despite the timeout or whether or not he should have called it is irrelevant IMO. In that situation you want the ball in Hager's hands or Faulkner's hands. You win some you lose some but I feel like 95% of all coaches in the state would have called a timeout in the same situation. Had Faulkner turned it over or missed the shot then everyone would have been screaming that he should have called a timeout.

 

It's easy for everyone to armchair coach that one play and yet people still refuse to acknowledge that Mercer County and Dunbar was arguably the state final game that should have played. Mercer County gave Dunbar a better game for 4 quarters than any other team Dunbar played.

Lawrence County was pretty good, but they were no Dunbar or MC.

Aren't the Dalton boys still at Lawrence County? One graduated and the other is still there? Cook hasn't been there for two years but yet the Dalton boys remained? Hmmmmmm.....

Bowling Green was as good as both and gave Dunbar a good half. Mercer County gave Dunbar 4 good quarters. Not just a half. I also used the word arguably as well.

They remained because they had transferred a total of about 3-4 times I imagine they might of been ineligible but who knows. I just want to see these new young coaches stay at a school, DEVELOP their own talent, build good middle school programs, just doesn't seem to happen anymore, total of about 5-6 kids that all can play at the next level, just by accident I am sure. Everyone does seem to be doing it so go for it if that is what you want
