Nice win, Haysi is normally a top notch squad, so anytime you get a W next to their name on the schedule it is a good win. :thumb:

Very, very young team, hopefully go get better with experience. I too have looked at the schedule and even though its more of a cupcake than usual for an East Ridge team, it still looks like its going to be difficult (nearly impossible to get a double digit win season.) Hope the Warriors get things turned around, most definately is a rebuilding year. What is their current record 1-4? with a win over Grundy(VA) and loses to Phelps, Belfry, JC, and North Bullitt?

Like I said in another thread, with a team like this it will be hard to tell untill around mid-season. I look for them to be kind of like the first year East Ridge squad, who started off slow, then became good, then by the end of the season was playing as good of baseball as anyone. However, the lack of chemistry killed them in the Regionals. But I look for Letcher to be the same :thumb:

Yes you have, and thanks. :thumb: On a side note, I cannot wait to see the new field at Stone Crest, the times I have played golf their, the baseball field looks like it will be nice, and a nice baseball field is something all schools in Floyd County have been missing for a while.

Ive wondered this as well. P'Burg always seems to have the best athletes in Floyd County, but for some reason always has the worst baseball team. I never understood this being that good athletic football/basketball players are normally at least average baseball players. What has been wrong with P'Burg in baseball? Is it coaching? Little League programs? Lack of Interest? Just curious.

Yes, all very good teams from the 15th before they eventually became East Ridge (Elkhorn City), Shelby Valley (Virgie), and Pike County Central (Johns Creek). Personally I really like what Joey Thacker did at Elkhorn City. 4 straight District Titles, as well as a 15th Region crown, pretty impressive strecth. Elkhorn City slid off a little bit after his departure, but still seemed to always put a very nice team on the field. I think in 2001 maybe, they beat Haysi Virgnia who at the time was the 2nd ranked single A team in Virginia, so great tradition there before it was lost to consolidation. Also some great teams in the early 80's and from what I've heard all the way back as the 50's.

What are some of the good teams with a winning past in your region who have lost out due to consolidation. And how is the the sucess been for the consolidated school, who consolidated etc. Should bring up some good discussion for those intrigued by past memories. Thoughts????

Adkins is a great pitching coach and seems to know how to get the best out of his arms. Saw it with Tommy Adkins at Elkhorn. Saw it with Brandon Sawyers, Brandon Ratliff (Elkhorn City/East Ridge) and Tyler Ratliff, Eric Slone (Millard/East Ridge). Like I said most of their arms were lost to graduation in the past two years, with a jump start with the young ones, a bright FUTURE may be ahead in the next 2-3.

How is Tyler Smith looking so far, very nice player, but has been bit hard by the injury bug throughout his career. I fhe stays healthy he can put up some large numbers, hopefully his arm is okay after suffering that devasting injury last season, has he lost a step because of this? Or is he still in form? On another note, good win for PCC. This early in the season, games are going to be sloppy on the defensive end, you just have to find a way to fight through and get the win, looks like the Hawks did this. How did LCC look? For some reason it takes about mid season for a new school like this to get clicking, lot of talent, but it just seems to take a while to gel. Happened to East Ridge in their first season, slow to start off with, but with all the talent ended up being a top 5 team by the end of the season. I look for Letcher Central to be the same way.

Every year it seems as if they lose talent, and its as if the next years talent pool keeps getting closer and closer to the shallow end. On the verge of something special in their first year, outstanding second year, last year kind of started the slide, and after losing a handful of talented seniors it finally looks like the ship has sank for now. Hopefully some of the young ones ermerge quick, or what will be a long season this year will turn into many long seasons to come. I thought the cup cake schedule would help these guys this season, but it still seems as if they will be playing white knuckers throughout. Still young in the spring right though, hopefully their season gets on the right track. No where to go but up after practically their whole squad has been demolished by graduation the past 2 years.

Sheldon Clark 5 in the 15th Region poll, but six in the Mountains with JC being 9th, I just don't get it.

Pikeville is used to playing natural though also being they play an abundant amount of away games. But yes this could have something to do with it, but I think its merely just because of the new faces and it being early Spring.

How many "Five A" and "Six A" schools would Kentucky have? And what would that do to shift the power from the AAAA?

Suprised to see a Pikeville team commit six errors. I know much of their defense has been replaced, but year in year out Pikeville has relied mainly on Defense and Pitching, this giving them the ability to score an average of three runs, and still dominate the 15th (along with JC and Paintsville who are known for their hitting) Im sure Lawson's boys will have the fielding kinks worked out and be in mid season flow shortly.

Very expensive to fund this type of thing, and in Kentucky most schools, especially Public can barely afford upkeep in their gymnasiums, much less Shot-Clock additions. I would love to see this happen, but untill some kind of funding comes through giving all KHSAA schools equal oppurtunity, then I see no way of this working.

Pikeville has been a benchmark in the single A division for a while, and I don't see them going anywhere anytime soon. Passionate fans, great facilities, and not to mention they have produced some great scholar athletes. Tilghman right there with them, but when it comes down to it I will go with Pikeville. Let's just hope no one gets "P'd" off during this thread.

If this were to happen he would be transferring from Paintsville (15th Region) to JBS (14th Region) located in Pippa Passes (Basically Alice Llyod College)

Nice job by Magoffin's Lady Hornets, the favorites to win the region (rightfully so) and they backed it up with three nice games. Very good looking team for the girls had a good perimeter game, nice inside game, and most of all were very quick to be a girls basketball team. Tough draw going into BG, but best of luck, and represent the 15th well. :thumb:

East Ridge lost a lot of talent from last years team, Slone, Billiter, Jackson, Ward (Ace, Catcher SS/2B, best outfileder) etc. practically the entire starting line-up, so they will play very young and inexperienced this season. Still a couple of years away IMO. East Ridge has good talent potential, but it is very young, inexperienced, and under developed at this point in time. They will be better with age.

Total drumming of Hazard, but congrats to them making it to the tourney. Central is playing tough, and maybe, just maybe could be in position to cut down the nets, should be a nice great 8.

Madison Central winning the 11th is definately a suprise to me.

Very tragic and disgustful news. As much up-keep as a baseball field needs normally, it is herendous that the Danville team now has to focus with fixing the damages.

I agree. Regardless of any situation, Pikeville, Johnson Central and Paintsville will always be head and shoulders over the competition in the 15th, and now you may be able to throw Lawrence County in the mix since they have joined. Sure, it isn't uncommon for a few of the other 15th teams to load up on talent and score a couple wins on some of these teams during the season, but when it comes down to earning a spot in sectional play no one else has what it takes. These three perhaps four teams are the epitimy of 15th Region baseball, period. I know many may disagree, but this is coming from someone outside of these four schools and have played on good teams that have went up against them. Fact is just fact.
