It is absolutely umsportsmanlike & classless...I see it in basketball too...You are beating a team by 30 with 5 mins to go & you sub in the JV & Freshman & the other team leaves the starters in & starts pressing... The game is essentially over...Let the younger kids play...Honestly, I'm sure most Prestonsburg fans saw what was happening & probably were a little embarrased by it... Good luck to Belfry the rest of the way...Looks like Belfry/Russell III may be in the future...We have some guys who need to heal up before then...Hope you guys stay healthy too...

Here is what I have been told is Russell's schedule for next year... Russell Red Devils 2007 calendar: First week--- open Week 2 - Greenup at Russell Week 3 - Ashland at Russell Week 4 - Russell at Boyd Week 5 - Russell at West Carter -District game Week 6 - Lewis at Russell - District game Week 7 - Mason at Russell - District game Week 8 - Russell at East Carter -District game Week 9 - Russell at Lawrence County Week 10 - SOMEONE at Russell - Team has been confirmed (current 4A team) Week 11 - Russell at Raceland

It's a done deal...Play at Raceland in week 10 next year...

Take your time & get completely well before you think about returning...I know how much you love it but no game is worth taking a risk with your health...Plus, you have basketball & baseball around the corner too...You know how hard it was on Potter last year...He wanted to play in that championship game so badly but he waited & had a FANTASTIC spring & summer in baseball... This thread is as ridiculous as getting worked up in the early summer about the upcoming season...Too much to speculate & a long time away... However, it's out there so I'll take the bait... I know there are other teams with legitimate chances at winning the title but for the sake of this thread I will discuss the 3 that everyone seems to be predicting... If I were going to pick a champion at this point based on what I've seen so far, I would have to go with Mercer-burg...They were tough last year & seem to have added what they needed to get over the hump...(Speed and 2 schools to choose from ) At this point in the year they appear to be clicking while Belfry & Russell are slower starters... While both Belfry and Russell lost to Ashland, from what I hear Belfry should have won their game but were killed by turnovers & costly penalties...Russell could have won their game too but it was far from the dominating performance I heard Belfry put on...Many felt like Belfry was the better team that night...I, for one, did not think we were better than Ashland the night we played...Now, I know you shouldn't make comparisons based on how one team plays another so I won't...But, I will say that at this point in the season I am concerned about us playing against strong and physical teams...We were "out-physicaled" by Ashland & I am concerned that either Belfry or Mercer would do the same to us AT THIS POINT...While there are no guarantees that we will make it that far, luckily we would not have to play either until at least Thanksgiving...We will be as good as we are going to get by then so if these games happen, Let The Best Team Win!!!

The talent is there but I've said it from day 1, it takes more than talent and the odds are not in our favor...Everyone needs to relax & let it play out and enjoy the ride regardless of where it ends up...It really is just a game... I heard today that Coach McGlone's wife is ill...Let's hope not, but if it's true everyone needs to remember "Coach" and his wonderful wife in their thoughts and prayers...Big day for them tomorrow...He deserves all the accolades...Before he arrived, Russell simply had a football team...Now they have a football program!!!

It means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING...I can't remember all the times I've watched our JV's get beaten badly by another JV team only to have our Varsity team spank them the next year...JV games are basically scrimmages to help depth this year & get other players experience to make us better next year...

I hope someone repaired the devil on the scoreboard at our place...The fire coming out it's mouth has really become a big part of Russell touchdowns at home...After the malfunction it hasn't worked quite the same at it was in the picture on the football website...I wanted to use that as my avatar but couldn't get to work...I'm willing to front the money for any repairs needed to get it working like it used to...

If Ashland builds on the confidence & improvements they have made over the last 2 weeks they will be just fine...I see no need to make any major changes...Once you stop dropping the wide open passes you may really be dangerous...But, by the looks of the last few games I don't look for it to come easy for the Cats this year but they battle till the final horn & that ALWAYS gives you a chance to win...I expect the same this week... The little kids seem to really enjoy them...We've been using them for several years now...

Ashland was the better team tonight...They did control the game...Their offensive line grew up tonight...I saw them 2 weeks ago against Raceland & tonight they WERE NOT the same team I watched against Raceland...Ashland fans need to relax...Your team is not as bad as A LOT of you were saying...IMO, you can thank Raceland for waking you up...Call the first game an experiment...Your coaches went back to the lab & you guys could EASILY be 3-0 if this lineup were used from day 1... Matt Thomas finally lived up to the hype we've heard for 3 years...He was "Arliss-esque" tonight...On the Russell side, Kasey had a great night as well...He's so strong and LOVES to deliver a hit when running the ball... This is a good game for Russell to show they have a lot to work on...Now it's time to go to work & prepare for the rest of the year...I think we'll be just fine...If Ashland continues to improve at the rate they have since week 1 and cuts down on the turnovers & dropped passes, they'll make a good run in the playoffs... I'm always disappointed when we lose but we did not give the game away...We were beaten...Like I said in the prediction thread, the "favorite" doesn't always win this game...It certainly wasn't pretty tonight but it lived up to what makes this series such a GREAT rivalry...Congrats to the Tomcats... Now lets go to work Devils!!! No reason we can't use this game like we did the Boyd Co game last year...I have no doubt we'll be right in the thick of it at the end of the year...It's a long season... BTW, the kick wasn't close...

At this point it doesn't really matter who & why it was cancelled...I think we were ALL a little miffed at first because you wait all week for something & then it gets delayed & it's frustrating...It's over and we will play tonight... GIAT is correct that both schools have to agree & obviously did...Russell could have pushed the issue but Sam Sparks is a class act & if Ashland really wanted to push it back a day, he was going to agree...We are rivals but both AD's are professional & have a lot of respect for each other...Plus, today is my birthday & Russell beat Ashland on my birthday last year & Sparks figured we would do it again so he agreed!!! Or, maybe Russell wants to ensure Putnam is in really good shape so when our field gets destroyed at the end of the year (as usual) we can use Putnam again in the 3rd week of the playoffs because I'm sure it will be open!!! :thumb:

This was totally Ashland's decision...No agreement was made...Russell was contacted afterward...I believe the officials were even contacted before Russell was...

Maybe the infamous "mud cleats" won't be delivered until tomorrow!!! :sssh:

How would this decision be made?? Is it all Mark Swift's decision or will he get with Sam Sparks and make the decision...My guess is Russell will want to play unless the field conditions are so bad that it is dangerous for the kids...If it is so bad that they can't pay tonight, I can't see how waiting until tomorrow will make it that much better...Forecast for tomorrow is cloudy with showers and a high of 75...That won't put much of a dent in the wetness...Unless it was supposed to be hot & sunny I don't see the advantage in waiting...Just my 2 cents worth...

How do you figure small??? They jump to 5A not 4A...The small 3A schools will be in 4A next year with a few still in 3A... It really doesn't matter...Enjoy your "free" season playing DOWN in 2A...This will be your best chance to get a ring...Highlands and company await you starting next year...

Ratings are nice but I'll trade a #1 rating during the season for a championship at the end of the season any day...If I'm not mistaken, I don't think Russell was ever rated #1 last year until after the championship...Mercer can have #1 during the season...

I am not understanding why they don't play during the regular season either...:confused: Isn't it a little odd that they don't play a team within their district?? The game would definitely be competitive...They played twice in the regular season 2 years ago with Ashland winning by an average of 30+ points...What happened between then and now??? I can't buy the "principles" theory...Ashland welcomed an opportunity to play Lex Cath last year and they're playing Cov Cath this year...I guess Rose Hill gets their players by "hook or crook" while ALL of Lex Cath's and Cov Cath's players are "homegrown"...:sssh:

EXACTLY!!!:thumb: Ashland will be plenty for us to worry about this week...I just hope that the players' heads aren't as big as some of our faithful on here...If they are, we may be in trouble...Russell should win but don't expect it to be easy...
