mercer_titan Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Can they run the table from LCA to Louisville? After saturday night I think they have a good chance. I mean this team has alot of jelling to do still. But, they looked unreal! Before you start slamming my opinion I think you need to see them play. I know it sounds crazy but this team is SICK!
mercer_titan Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 Also, Mercer has the ability to start 22 different players with great depth.
Tough as Nails Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Mercer definitely has the talent to win 2A and maybe run the table. I don't know their schedule, but if they play mostly 1A and 2A teams the chances are high for an undefeated season. I watched them play against LCA. They have enough depth to be able to two platoon and they have a starter returning to every position. They do have some work to do, but they are going to be a tough team to beat.
mercer_titan Posted August 28, 2006 Author Posted August 28, 2006 They were much improved from LCA to South Laurel. Two backs over 250 yards that made it to the midway point of the 3rd quarter. LCA was the only 1A team on the schedule. mostly 2A, a 3A and South Laurel was 4A. Anybody thinking they wont be better in 4 or 5 weeks is kidding themselves. I'm not saying they will go undefeated but they have the tools to do it from what I've seen so far.
Hogtown Pride Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Just wait until Donald Walker is back!!! This will give the Titans 3 senior running backs and will allow Junior Nathan Griffith to stay in the rotation and get some touches too! Seems like all of the boys are working hard "together". Everytime they play the "Everywhere we go, people want to know......Who we are" song on the P.A. System - the crowd gets that much more excited!

4th and long Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I still believe Mercer will need to improve their o-line play to go deep. They were much better this week but.... how will they respond to a team that can shut down the run, or at least slow down the run. I also worry that they may not have a "true" test until later in the playoffs. How will they handle adversity if they do not experience it. I do not believe they will run the table and go 15 - 0 without winning a couple tough physical battles. If they can however, they may win it all. They certainly have the talent and depth to do so however, they do not have the experience or tradition... yet!

I agree they could use some top notch competition. But our district is weak like just about every other 2A district. We will see.
NO HOLLA Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 I looked at there schedule and the regular season looks to be fairly easy. Boyle seems to be down, although the season is young and we don't know if Henry Clay is just that good. I think we need to watch the Boyle/Danville game. If it turns out to be a good game then we'll see if the Titans are that good. If Danville rolls over Boyle then we'll have to wait for the playoffs to see what the Titans have. Best of luck to the Titans either way.

But our district is weak like just about every other 2A district. We will see. Some 2A districts are weak, but it also matters to what kind of non-district schedule you have, with Boyle being down some, looks like Mercer may go untested through the season and may not be ready for a big game come playoff time.

In all reality, they're getting a freebie this year...by being able to compete at the 2A level. Better take advantage of it. 2007 is coming and so is 5A.
FBALL Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 there backfield is unstoppable end of disscusion No backfield is unstoppable without good blocking up front. I think this discussion is still open.

EXACTLY!!!:thumb: Everyone from Mercer take a deep breath...... We've had our way with two mediocre teams. That's nothing to wet your pants over... Our schedule is favorable, although we haven't earned the right to overlook Boyle yet. Newport will be a tough game on their new field. REGARDLESS...talk of a 15-0 season is ridiculous at this point. How we respond to injuries, hostile environments, poor officiating, sloppy fields, opposing coaches with flawless game plans, and the hype will tell the story. If we pass those tests, then all we have to do is beat a tough, physical, impeccably coached team like Russell who are playoff veterans, and understand the pressures of playoff time. I'm having a blast this year also, but for crying out loud Mercer has NOT earned the right to talk about running the table and sizing the players up for rings after 2 games! A little respect for the Belfry's and Russell's is in order.
gchs_uk9 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Mercer County has a schedule that sets them up for an undefeated regular season. They already have two non-district wins and you can chalk up two more against Garrard County and Casey County. The only game in question will be Boyle County, although Mercer looks to be a notch ahead of them right now. In Class AA, District 5, Mercer should pick up three wins with relative ease: North Oldham, Henry County and Spencer County. That leaves Lloyd Memorial at home and Newport High on the road. I would guess that Newport would be their biggest obstacle. As for the playoffs, as long as they win the district Mercer should pick up two tournament wins easily. That would then set them up with a regional final appearance, most likely against Russell and probably on the road. A win there sends them to either Belfry or Breathitt or one of the other big names in the mountains. All of that before Louisville. As I said in a previous thread, Mercer should make it to 12-0, but I can't see them advancing further, just because the playoff schedule stacks up unfavorably for them.
