For those of you who have seen Mercer....

Featured Replies

Russell's school district is actually in two counties, Greenup and Boyd, and includes the cities of Russell, Flatwoods and Bellefonte. Most of it is in Greenup County(Russell and Flatwoods), which would include Greenup County High School(AAA) and Raceland High School(A). The other part of the district (Bellefonte), is in Boyd Co, which has Ashland(AAA), Fairview(A), Rose Hill(A) and Boyd County High School(AAA).

Maybe we should combine all seven of these schools into one school and call it Fairview so we could remain in class A. :sssh:

Just kidding about that last part.:thumb:

RUMOR ON THE PLAYGROUND !!!

Russell, Raceland and Fairvew are looking at merging. That would leave us being 4A and competing with Ashland and Boyd and Greenup........OH-SORRY. Russell already does.....If we merged,,,.....BRING ON the 6A schools. With high caliber talent at Raceland and Fairview along with Russell - they would be nicely equipped to run with the big dogs......

Pretty soon every school within 15 miles of each other are goin to merge.

I have not seen Mercer, but from people who have, say they are top 3 in state in 2A. That being said, when they move to 5A, these people think Mercer will be the favorites year in and out with Lincoln, SW, S. Laurel, and Pulaski. In their District , that is.

oh i see, now it makes sense as to why russell wouldnt meet them.

That's not right...Region 3 District 5 (Henry Co, Lloyd mem, Mercer Co, Newport, North Oldham) WILL play Region 3 District 6 (Russell, etc, etc,) in the 3rd round.

Then the winner of Region 3 will play the winner of Region 4 in the state Semi game..

yes...they'll be the favorites out of that district...but will have to contend with Highlands, Cov Cath...etc,etc.

Oh well it was stated earlier that Mercer wouldnt meet russell til the state finals if they meet them at all?

No...if they do meet...it will be in the 3rd round. That would be a real barnburner.

I'm sorry Josey (one of my favorite movie characters) but that isn't true this year. Because of the change in the playoff format, District 5 plays District 3 in the 3rd round and District 4 plays District 6.

See the Playoff Rounds 3 and 4 thread on the football page.

Are you sure about that Newport in Wk #2?

Assuming that Mercer/Newport finish 1-2 or 2-1 in the district and both win their first round playoff games, yes, I am sure. 1st 2 rounds of the playoffs will be teams in your district this year.

I believe I did mess up some on the semis and finals. It is described better on Watusi's Playoff Rounds 3 and 4 thread on the football page.

sorry about the mix-up...I was looking at 1A. 2a is a little convoluted.

TRUE!:thumb:

I haven't seen Mercer County this year but I guarentee the Corbin coaches have. 4 out of the first 5 teams that Mercer plays this year are on Corbin's schedule (LCA, South Laurel, Garrard, and Casey County). That may benefit Corbin in the long run and we may not know it. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to see these two meet up in Louisville. Good luck to the Titans, hope to see ya at Papa Johns.

How many kids are on the Mercer roster??

Last I heard 68 for varsity, 3 of them freshman. Freshman team has around 30 and dress for home games. Seems everyone wants to be a player on this "merged" team - who can blame them? It's no wonder they have the number of kids playing, have you seen the sports complex? Uniforms? Coaches? Support of the fans and community? Nothing but the best. Heck, I wish I could be on the team, ;)

That would mean they would have to make the state finals. The Mercer County Scotties made it to the A semi-finals in 1986 but fell to Heath if memory serves. I think Larry French was the head coach of that squad and a young Chuck Smith was his assistant. :thumb:

That team went 10-2 just like Mercer did last year under Jaggers in his 1st year there.

You Mercer fans are getting a little ahead of yourselves. Are you saying that the rest of the district need not play? I am sure Mercer is a talented team but lets not give the whole future of a complete district to them because they have won two games.
