Who do they resemble? Madison Central?

Do you have a good shot of the helmets?

With the merge of both Harrodsburg and Mercer County, we have been seein alot of coverage about the football team which is fine-because Im a huge Mercer fan right next to Danville-I'll go ahead and call it, come a couple years down the road, especially after the upcoming mercer/boyle game, you will see a rivarly develop quicker and bigger then the boyle/danville rivalry.

Who will the rivalry be with? Danville? Why would a 5A school vs a 2A school be such a big rivalry in a couple of years?

I look for great things from Mercer and wish them all the best but Boyle and Danville share a common ground and have been playing every year since 1965. The fact they share 15 titles between them and winning streaks of 42 and 47 games by each program are going to be hard to beat and a little presumptious.

I remember that Boyle had a huge football rivalry with Harrodsburg from about 1976 through the mid 80's. But that rivalry died somewhat with coaching changes and the fortunes of the programs. Then it totally went away when Alvis left and the Harrodsburg program bought out their contract with Boyle.

I'm just saying it takes more than 1 scrimmage to forecast a rivalry with someone.

Some 1 with a bluegrass preps shirt on was on the sidelines taking pics saturday.

Consider this perspective.

Assume there was no merger at all. But assume that Mercer had recruited all the starters from Harrodsburg's team from last year to come to Mercer and play this year.

What would the reaction be?

Would it be seen as unfair?

Not sure the scenario makes much sense, unless you consider an overdue merge cheating.....

However, I'm sure the reaction would be exactly the same as now.... A WHOLE BUNCH OF SNIFFLING AND WHINING.....

I'm pretty sure all the big Dogs want a shot at us. I believe that will make it very interesting. It wont be too hard for them to get up for us. I see that big ol' target on our backs even though we haven't won anything yet.

I think the "big ol' target" has been put on our backs by our own people starting threads about an undefeated season and winning a State Championship. Nothing like bringing it on yourself....

Excellent point ntrl, nothing like setting yourself up for a plate of crow!

1 playoff win in the last dozen years or so....

2 blowout wins over mediocre teams....

WOWEEE let's order the rings!!!!!

I'm as excited as anyone at Mercer, but for crying out loud, the season is 2 WEEKS OLD Let's enjoy watching the fellas and let them do their talking on the field. If you're talking about yourself (constantly in some cases) what good does it do you? We're good.....other folks will recognize this....relax!

Hey, relax. I think people read the papers. Larry Vaught started it. I was just inerested in what people thought who had saw them so far. I didn't say we WERE going to go undefeated. Probably a poor choice of a thread. But it has led to alot of good topics.

I agree ntrl, respect in high school football comes from results. Ask programs like Russell, Belfry, Highlands, St. X and so on, they do thier talking on friday nights when it counts and teams like that expect to win every friday night and so does thier fan base, success breeds success, I think Mercer will do fine this year but I agree let the season play out and dont be making predictions about somethng that is months away!

I thought this was a message board. When did any fan on a message board of any sport at any level speak for the team? Im not doing that now. Like I said I got this Idea for the thread from an article I read. He predicted MERCER to go 10-0 in the regular season. I asked him his thoughts about the season in general after he saw last saturdays improvement from week 1. He told me if he had to do it all over he would have said 15-0. Now I know he just has an opinion as well. I was just curious with what some of the fans thought about the potential of this team. I think the players know they have to earn the respect. The fans have nothing to do with that. So please no need to take offense and lash at me. If you think I shouldn't have started a thread like that then why don't you tell the Danville Advocate for making such predictions. I never made one myself. What I say doesnt reflect the team. Who am I. Just like you. Somebody on a message board.

No, not meant as an accusation of cheating. Just a comparison that if Team A suddenly received 30 players from Team B it would create quite a stir. I probably used a bad analogy, but the point I was making is that under both scenarios, some people are going to see that as unfair.

It is an unusual situation. A team jumps that much in enrollment and remains in the class to compete against teams with much lower enrollment. You have to expect people to talk about it.

If it were Belfry and Pikeville, I'm sure the reaction would be much the same.

I think there are some people that take this stuff too seriously. It probably would be a good idea to close this thread out.
