If we beat you, we can crow about it, and if you beat us, we can say you cheated.

Consider this perspective.

Assume there was no merger at all. But assume that Mercer had recruited all the starters from Harrodsburg's team from last year to come to Mercer and play this year.

What would the reaction be?

Would it be seen as unfair?

If you guys beat us I'll be the first one to start a thread just for my suffering. I think I would have that coming to me. This is what happens to me during a idle week. I'll be fine next week.

Tons of hype for a merged school that has not made it past the second round in 5-6 years. Beating week teams by 50 doesn't win a state championship. This community better not put all their eggs in one basket. I'll have to come to the Boyle game to see for my self.

Why such negative thoughts? Let these boys enjoy their time playing football this season! Let the boys prove what they can do on the playing field. The "Titantown" community is behind them and pulling for them. What kind of town would we be if we didn't want the best for these boys? Come on to the Boyle/Mercer game - it will definitely be exciting!!!!

:D, and when I said "we" I meant all the rest of 2A, not necessarily just my team.

I would say locally they would catch a little heat. I think it's the adding a whole school that magnifies it all. Just my opinion.

They would catch heat from everywhere. But I don't think they are getting all that much grief because they did nothing wrong and it is out of their control.

To the other 2A schools, though, it kind of feels like they brought in a ringer through a loophole.

I'm pretty sure all the big Dogs want a shot at us. I believe that will make it very interesting. It wont be too hard for them to get up for us. I see that big ol' target on our backs even though we haven't won anything yet.

I think you are right on target. (pun intended) :thumb:

I agree. I've just seen a few who seem to think that it's just Mercer intentionally taking an advantage into this season.

From a Russell perspective I don't care who the Devils play. It really doesn't matter because you will have to beat at least two really good teams to win a title. Who they are is of no concern.

Surely nobody really thinks that the Board of Education pushed a high school merger through with the intention of winning a football title with an unfair advantage. With all the complications involved and with all the much more important things to consider that would be pretty far fetched. Plus it would be a very hollow victory if it were done under that pretense.

You know this is great for both Harrodsburg and Mercer to come together as one football team. But, the best thing out of it all is that it has already brought our community together. We are a small town with a county that is pretty populated. Never before have I seen all these people together on the same sideline cheering for one team. Before you had the H-Burg community and the Mercer community. I think the players love it as well. Our crowds in both games have been enormous. I have heard that they are expecting 8,000 to 10,000 people for the Boyle/Mercer game with the big following for both teams.

Harrodsburg wanted the merge. They voted for it. Mercer agreed. The main reason was for the brand new school they are building. Alot more money will be availible for the school that will be great for all the kids in the county and city to have the same opportunites. Football is just one of the many sports teams they will field. They say the school will be second to none in the state.
