For those of you who have seen Mercer....

Undefeated? Championship? There were people at the game Saturday, that I have not seen at a game in 10 years! Some of them did not know what a first down was, and they were talking about winning the state.

Travel with us to Russell, Belfry, or wherever the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th rounds are held, and you will discover how tough it is, to advance. Hopefully Mercer will be home a couple of games, but I believe it is our turn to travel, if Mercer makes it to the regional final and both 1 seeds are still in.

Everybody calm down, and let the kids have fun, and let November happen. That's when it really gets fun.

I believe with the new playoff format. Mercer would not see Russell or Belfry to the state finals.

Yea this is not fair I wish the would do this to Frankfort/Franklin co/

Western hills.

I am a little unclear on the format when it gets past the region, why wouldnt mercer meet russell in the regional championship and then the winner meet the winner of belfry's region.

Hey, I know it's just week 3 coming up. But this is my favorite time of the year. Watching two running backs from your team run for 250+ through 2 1/2 quarters that were not named Donald Walker will make you think crazy stuff like this. It's Larry Vaught's fault. Just kidding.

I would hope that Mercer has only one goal. A state title. What other goal is there? This topic was in no way a disrespect to Russell,Belfry,OC, or anyone. Mercer has to bring it every week. They have a shot to make it through the regular season unbeaten. I think they will be a much better team by the end of October. The playoffs is when you find out what kind of team you have. I don't think the travel will affect Mercer with their depth. Sure the big dogs of AA are battle tested. But, how did Boyle win their first title which was in AA after always being the doormat before? It surely wasn't tradition and it wasn't and overwhelming amount of talent (not yet atleast). It was a team with a tight nit group who were very well coached who knew what they wanted. If Mercer wants the Title and I know they do then let's see what happens the rest of the regular season and go from there. I guess I am wanting the ending like the movie Remember the titans. I know we wont lose this week. I guarentee you that. Gotta take it week to week though.

Can you imagine?????

that would almost be like "c" for Lex. Schools!

Do you think school will start doin this... and how did this even come about... you just go to the other school and say let put our school to gether.

There is no doubt in my mind I see Mercer co. will run the table

Mercer County has a schedule that sets them up for an undefeated regular season. They already have two non-district wins and you can chalk up two more against Garrard County and Casey County. The only game in question will be Boyle County, although Mercer looks to be a notch ahead of them right now.

In Class AA, District 5, Mercer should pick up three wins with relative ease: North Oldham, Henry County and Spencer County. That leaves Lloyd Memorial at home and Newport High on the road. I would guess that Newport would be their biggest obstacle.

As for the playoffs, as long as they win the district Mercer should pick up two tournament wins easily. That would then set them up with a regional final appearance, most likely against Russell and probably on the road. A win there sends them to either Belfry or Breathitt or one of the other big names in the mountains. All of that before Louisville.

As I said in a previous thread, Mercer should make it to 12-0, but I can't see them advancing further, just because the playoff schedule stacks up unfavorably for them.

Mercer would not see Russell or Belfry until the championship game.

What, merge? Harodsburg was a small class A school so there wasn't a huge increase in the school enrollment. I would say around a couple hundred kids in the senior high. Someone correct me if I am off on the number but I believe I am somwhere close. Kinda similar to when Mason co and maysville merged back in the 90's.

If thats the case then who would russell likely see in the regional final game if they made it there? Would russell and belfry meet in the semi's if they both won thier respective regions?

That's huge. It sounds like we have a chance to make it to the carpet for the first time in the Titan's short history. But they have to play there way there. We may lose a couple of games, who knows? But I think they will make a serious run. Farther then ever before for Mercer. Here is to hoping that corey and brandon run HOG wild all the way to Louisville.

Do a search in this forum on "blind draw" or "playoff format" and you should find a thread all about how they changed the playoffs for 2006.

The first two rounds will be against your own district teams and then it gets interesting. In short, in 2A, after the first two rounds, the winners of each district play a winner of another district. The third round has the following winners playing each other; 1 vs 2, 3 vs 5, 4 vs 6, 7 vs 8

Nobody seems to know what will happen in round 4, who will play who and what the location will be. I've heard that they are looking at using neutral sites for the semifinals.

CORRECTION: I found the information on the KHSAA website and posted a new thread about it.

It's still a merge. I would LOVE to go to a small school and add about 25 players to my roster. Even if you get 10-15 Quality players, it's still a MAJOR advantage. KHSAA consider it more than a small enrollment increase because Mercer moves to 5A next year. But I'm done with this, it's just week 3 and I'm not going to do this for the rest of the season. You can expect to get this all year from various parties around the state because people are talking about it and most are not happy either. It's not Mercer's fault but you need to call it for what it is.

Well when Boyle co won their AA title before being moved up to AAA I guess it was hard for them to accept the trophy. What other team is in the same county as Russell? I guess people around the state have to have somthing to talk about, but as long as our very small community here in little central ky are excited then that's all that matters. I'm done talking about this too. It gets old on this side of the screen as well. We arent the first and wont be the last to merge. See ya in the playoffs.
