  1. Props to Corbin for playing a nice non-district schedule.
  2. Newport should not be in the top 10. Breathitt Co. deserves to be at 10 with Newport moving out. Everyone else can move up a bit.
  3. I think Breathitt playing competitively with Western mandates them being at least "considered" in the discussion of contenders.
  4. I'll take Woodford by a score
  5. Trigg v. Ft. Campbell is a very interesting matchup. Ft. Campbell has had Trigg's number recently. OCath is down this year. If Trigg can handily defeat Ft. Campbell, then the region is likely their's to lose.
  6. Ashland Ashland 35 Prestonsburg 7
  7. In response to Tiny's comment, is Russell really that young? I was under the impression they were junior and senior laden.
  8. Gotta love Norris Lake. I actually visit Powell Valley Marina on a regular basis. If my memory serves me, they actually had a decent team the last couple years. I think they were fighting for a playoff spot (and earned it if I remember). I know thats not STELLAR, but I would think its not bad football, considering that Lafollette is a decent sized feeder and the school is a step larger than Corbin. All in all, I don't think it would be a bad game to schedule. Besides, some Corbin fans might get to launch the boat and catch a few nice bass!
  9. When is it ever bad to encourage young kids? Go Pirates! At the same time, take pride Warriors.
  10. Is Hearsay the only voice of unbiased reason? Thank god for the bar KY bar!
  11. I didnt think we were comparing the top 5 of 1a vs 2a. Even if we are, I would still take 2a. That being said. I think Belfry OR Russell, OR Prestonburg beat Beechwood in 04. Granted, that not true every year, but it you compare class by class, I think 2a wins last season, and probably the year before. I COMPLETLY believe this year, which is what this thread is about, 2a can beat 1a. No respect for 2a football. Belfry or Russell win represent the East this year in 2a, and I think they will give Mercer Co. ( a 5a school, not thier fault) a god game. Just have some respect guys. I really beleive in 04. Belfry would have played Highland very tight, if not to a victory. Rember Bell Co. should have beat them (had they not had an ineligble player). and Belfry BARELY squeeked by Pburg. How do people how haven't seen another team play, call out the entire class of 2a? Pretty gross IMO.
  12. OneIJoe, you watched (painfully) Belfry beat your talented Blackcats in 03 and 04. Do you really think the Pirates would have had no chance against Danville (03) and Beechwood (04)? I personally think Belfry v. Danville in 03 would have been a great game. In 04, I honestly think Belfry would have beat Beechwood by a couple touchdowns.
  13. BGGreen. Lets assume your right. Why did Belfry beat NCC? Danville, Mayfield are good teams, but C'on man, do you really think they are good enough to beat Mercer Co., Russell, and Belfry. I don't!
  14. GIAT, your absolutely right. But you said "the top 2a teams would have little or no chance in 3a". You BARELY beat a couple 2a powers. BARELY! If you want to make a statment fine, but saying that we (Russell, and Belfry) can't "compete" in 3a, when it took OT to beat us is essentially admitting that Ashland is playing for a semi appearance, too get CHILLED by Higlands or Cov Cath. If your saying that Belfry or Russell would likely also be destroyed in such a matchup, so be it. Just be careful in drawing the conclusion that 3a is clearly better than 2a. If I remember, Belfry had 52 carries for over 350 yds against your beloved TomCats. We are still deciding between the Jr Qb who had 100 yds against your team and the Soph who ran the offense so well this past week. I just feel 2a gets less respect than is deserved. Unfortunately, not much can be said now. Good luck to Ashland, they got the job done against a couple tough 2a programs the past two weeks.
  15. GIAT, if thats true, Ashland is playing for a regional AT BEST.
  16. Watusi, you agree with MY 1A vs 2A comments. Blue Blazer, perhaps 2a is a strong as you say, but lets let it play out a bit. IMO, there can be no denial that 2a has looked quite good to this point in the season. Trigg Co has been the surprise team, running the ball with Curtis Higgins!!! But IMO, Belfry defeating the defending champs NCC, makes it clear that 1a and 2a are very close. Could 1a (at the top) be better? Sure. But it certainly isn't closed for debate. I would take: Mercer Co., Russell, Belfry, Trigg Co, and Co. against the top 1a schools. Someone make the comparison.. It will be interesting
  17. Belfry has 4 or 5 sophmores who are starting or playing nearly the entire game. They are all looking good thus far, but IMO (and its early) DE Ivan Lee (6'2" 244") leads the way for the best Soph class I have ever seen at Belfry.
  18. I agree. Trigg Co. soundly beat Madisonville-North Hopkins. Granted, not a powerhouse in 4A, but still. 26-6 Belfry beat the defending 1A champs. Mercer DESTROYED LCA. 2a might usually deserve some scrutiny, but if you are calling it thus far, it is baseless.
  19. I think Raceland wins big. They have an outside (but legitimate) chance at winning the title in 1a this season.
  20. J-Town High is the closest school to my house but they aren't all that impressive. I know where Male is, but now that I know T is so close, I might have to check out a game in the upcoming weeks.
  21. Fball, if I wasn't a Belfry fan I seriously would be a Russell fan. Its so sick how close our programs are in prospective. I just feel like this could be the most unpredictable game yet. Sheldon Clark certainly has something to say about that, and Mercer Co. might make it for not, but deep down I don't believe that. I honestly beleive the Devils or Pirates will win it all this year. I know I'm not crazy. This will be a battle to the end. It almost reminds me of "Gangs of New York" the movie. Hated rivals, who can't help but appreciate one another. I won't go into the analogy anymore, but it really applies. I'm just glad to knwo its gonna exist again. I think coach Haywood is :VERY slighly above McGlone (like .2 % before you get mad). I just want to see this game happen every year for the next 10 years. Devils... screw tonight. Pick yourself up, get PO'd ,and get ready to whip every team you see until you travel to Belfry. Then lets make history!
  22. Ashland fans, I know its still sweet victory parties, but who do you give the edge to? My guess is no way to know.... and thats awesome! Belfry a slight edge up front, Russell a slight edge in skill. Kasey Clark v. #20 Dustin May, a battle to the end.. Im sorry guys, but I can't wait to see the devils and Pirates. CONGRATS ASHLAND! NICE WIN! JOHNSON CENTRAL AWAITS! KEEP MAKING THOMAS GROW UP AND GET THE JOB DONE!
  23. I can live with that analysis Fball. If you were there, and Russell wasn't "beat" on the line, but simply beat according to scheme, I will take your word for it. I do know this. Belfry plays one kid who is 250 on the o-line and 4 who are between 210-225. Russell has a HUGE size advantage. I know I'm probably overstating the game tonight, but I did listen, and Ashland WON the LOS. Against Belfry, they did not! There is a long way to go. I'm just excited about whats to come! Go Bucs!
  24. You play the Belfry Pirates next week. What are you gonna do? If you are a Warrior tonight, whether your a coach, parent, player, or student, there will never be a better time to make the most of the moment. Winning IS an attitude. Belfry has had it since long before a man named Phillip Haywood came into Pond Creek, but the fact remains, winning IS an attitude. I guess I'm writing this post because I want to see a Warrior team come out, under a new coach, who will play to the last drop of sweat against the Pirates. I love Belfry, but I believe in kids succeeding, and every success story has a starting point. I personally already believe that ER was a better team than PC, and I feel this new coach (and a ridiculous, but heart felt offense) has them on the right track. I guess Im calling out ER. Come out hard! Come out to play! Bring your pride to the line, and don't give an inch until the final whistle. I really believe ER has something going that they have not in the past. I hope the kids believe that and play hard to the final whistle. The score is the not the only measure of success Warriors! All of my post being relevant, Go Pirates! I know you will take care of business. I just think everyone can agree, its time to see Pike Co. kids succeed.
