Beechwood wins the special teams game which leads to a 21-14 defeat of the Hounds.

I expect that Beechwood will have more size than Corbin, although Corbin does play a lot of kids while pretty much 2 platooning. One of Corbin's offensive lineman, just switched positions a couple of weeks ago, started out the season as a LB & receiver. I doubt if they have more than 2 players that start on defense that weigh over 200 lbs.

It makes no sense to me either. It did give me an idea though. I believe that I am going to petition the KHSAA to see if they can make Belfry play on the road for all their playoff games. For some reason, it just seems fair to me, plus it's just too far to have to travel all the way to Pond Creek for the rest of us.

Whichever team can score 21 points I believe will win this game, so obviously I expect a defensive battle that may well come down to special teams play and turnovers. There will be a lot of heavy hearts in Corbin this week after losing a recent Corbin grad in a shooting at WKU this weekend.

Corbin's field did not appear to be damaged at all, but we received less than a half inch of rain over the past 2 days.

Pulaski ran the ball effectively and if they would have stuck with the running game, this game would have gone down to the wire. It was 14-0 with over 3 minutes to go in the half, Pulaski first and goal at the Corbin 5. They tried to throw it 4 times which resulted in losing about 15 yds or so. Corbin takes over and fumbles it back to Pulaski on 1st down. The Maroons go back to their "passing game" and the QB gets stripped and Corbin takes it about 70 yds. to the house. Pulaski gets the ball back around their own 30 with less than a minute to go and promptly throw it up for grabs, so Corbin grabs it and returns it around 50 yards for a pick 6. Pulaski was receiving the second half kickoff as well.:idunno:

Bell Co. was down last year, which could be attributed to a lot of factors, which included hiring a new coach very late and then providing him with virtually no asst. coaches. Add to that their best player went down with a season ending knee injury in the first game and things kind of fell apart. They did go 10-3 in 2015 and 9-3 in 2014 in Wayne Mills last 2 years as the head coach, which is the level I would expect them to peak at in a couple of years.

I have been told that the reason Corbin's gas is cheaper is because of which refinery it comes from. Anywhere north of Corbin gets their fuel from a different refinery, which is normally higher. My theory is that we have such a need to please and to be liked that we just charge less.:sssh:

Bell Co. and Casey Co. play such weak schedules that it will be hard to judge them until later in the year, so it would be difficult for me to put either one in the Top 10. I am impressed with the job Stonebreaker has done at Casey Co. and their game at Bell Co. on the 29th should tell us a lot.

Williamsburg is too high, should be toward the bottom of top 10.

Belfry should still be #1 in my opinion. If the opponents from last week were reversed, I'm of the opinion that Belfry would have won and Corbin would have lost, so it would be hard for me to flip-flop them. We should know more about Corbin after they play Pulaski Co., who I imagine will be a better offensive team than Alcoa.

Corbin's defense keeps the Hounds in the game long enough for the offense to come around late, with the help of a couple of penalties that could be deemed questionable. The personal foul for hitting the QB looked like a just a football play to me and I'm not sure about the pass interference because it looked to be face guarding, which may not be a penalty in high school, although it was called on Corbin last week in the endzone as well. Alcoa was not a great offensive team, and looked a little surprised that it wasn't going to be easier than it was to move the ball, but their defense was quick,physical and fundamentally sound.

He may just decide to play in both classes this year...

Corbin was missing a starter on the offensive line as well and like you mentioned, Estep was hardly involved in the offense at all. Whitley also had a very good defensive plan and they carried it out pretty well.

I agree, you have to give credit to Whitley's defense. They made it hard on the Redhound offense all night and their defensive line controlled the line of scrimmage in my opinion. I hope that the Whitley defensive line were that good instead of the other possible reason...

Both defenses played well, which caused both offenses to look out of synch. Corbin committed way too many penalties at crucial times, something they had better clean up or they will likely lose the next three games.

I'm surprised Middlesboro stayed in this game. A couple of their fans I know tell me they will be lucky to win over 2 or 3 games this year.

I don't really have a game report, but was told prior to the game that Northern Pulaski would more than likely be the best team they played this year.

I just saw in today's paper that Corbin 8th grade defeated Maryville, TN 22-20 Tuesday night.

I expect Knox Central to be better than Rockcastle Co. this year and finish second to Wayne Co. in that district.

There were actually a few Corbin players who have played at Furman, including Jerry Smith, who I believe is in their Hall of Fame and Gus Hauser, who went their on a tennis scholarship and also ended up playing basketball.
