Central 20 Corbin 19 (Class 3A State Championship)
One of their guards weighs 170 and the other 265. The center is also kind of small, weighing in at 195.

Central 20 Corbin 19 (Class 3A State Championship)
I agree with Haddix on going for the 2 point conversion. Corbin was able to move the ball down the field on Central, but struggled inside the red zone. Central was not able to sustain drives, but had success when getting to the red zone. I didn't have a problem in not kicking the field goals either. I may have ran Yeager[would have liked for he and Longmire to get more touches in the game as well}on some of those plays, but that's easy to say after the play called didn't work. They had subbed those defensive players in on offense all year on short yardage and it had worked each time before. The field goal at the end was a lot less likely to be successful than Estep throwing it to the end zone a couple of times in my opinion, but they know the kicker's range a lot better than I do.

Central 20 Corbin 19 (Class 3A State Championship)
I'm not sure what they were thinking on the FG, was 100% sure it was going to be a fake. That was at least 10 yards out of his range. Congrats to Central who stopped Corbin 3 different times in the red zone, can't have that many missed opportunities against a great defense. It came back and bit them in the end.

Central has come out on the better end of the officiating for the most part so far...

Central/Corbin (3A Championship) Updates
Smart play by the Central defender grabbing the WR's jersey, which probably saved a TD.

Huge penalty on Corbin after it looked as though they had stopped Central on 4th down.

Central/Corbin (3A Championship) Updates
Was that a completed catch for Central? The ball came out as soon as he hit the ground, although the high school rule may be different.

Central/Corbin (3A Championship) Updates
That no call probably cost the Hounds a TD. That could loom large.:angrybird8:

Central/Corbin (3A Championship) Updates
How was that not pass interference on Central down inside the 10?

Central/Corbin (3A Championship) Updates
Kind of looked like pass interference, at least to us Corbin fans. It was more of a pass interference than the one that negated the Corbin Int earlier. It looked like the Central receiver tripped himself.

Corbin's holder for PAT's injured on the scoring drive and they promptly missed the XP. He has also been starting at CB for an injured Hound.

3A Notebook: "C" is for Champions
It will be a tall task, but Corbin may need to score at least 3 TD's to win. Corbin has averaged scoring 25 points per game in the 3 games between the two teams since Haddix took over. The offense scored twice against Central last year while gaining around 250 total yards, with Estep and Sizemore accounting for almost all of the yardage. Corbin has more offensive weapons this year, but Central's defense may be even better than last year. The defense also had a TD on a scoop and score.

3A State Championship: #2 Corbin vs. #3 Central
Corbin will need to hit a couple of big scoring plays or plays that set them up on a short field to win this game. Corbin's just not big enough up front, especially after losing their biggest offensive lineman to a knee injury in the 1Q Friday night, to be able to grind it down the field consistently against Central's defense. They will need Estep to be on target and I expect he will be, although he seemed to be just a little off against Boyle Co. Also a TD via special teams or from the defense would work as well.

3A State Championship: #2 Corbin vs. #3 Central
He took a position at the Board, security director for the school system I believe, and will not be able to coach. May lose a couple of more asst. coaches as well is the rumor I heard at the game Friday night.

3A State Championship: #2 Corbin vs. #3 Central
Coach Greer's defense pitched a shutout in his last game coaching at Campbell Field, so maybe they can duplicate it against Central in his last game coaching.

Corbin 21 Boyle County 0
I believe you're right. Corbin kids really felt like they had something to prove after feeling as though they did not play well in the finals last year, plus Boyle may have come in a little too confident.

Corbin 21 Boyle County 0
I was worried at the half because Estep barely missed 2 receivers behind the defense that would have been TD's plus the bogus penalty against Corbin for interfering with the punt returner that nullified a fumble inside the red zone. They also kind of miss managed the clock at the end of the first half inside the 10 that resulted In no points. I kind of thought those missed points would come back and bite them, but the defense shut down the running game and didn't allow WR's to ever get behind them for any huge plays, plus they proved me wrong.

Class 3A State Semi-Finals: #1 Boyle County at #2 Corbin
I am one of the people who worry about Corbin's pass defense and it's not going to help that a 4 year starter at DB is going to be out. They have some solid players in the defensive backfield, but their top 4 or 5 fastest players do not play on that side of the ball, which is one negative aspect of 2 platooning. They went into the championship game last year with an injury riddled defensive backfield, but everyone has injuries at this time of the year, so someone just needs to step up. The Corbin defense is better suited to stopping teams that mainly run the ball, so lets hope the Hound defense steps up and proves me wrong.
