I had a family member fail 2 years of school before finally being put in a special education classroom. This person never played sports. This person is now having a very successful career because of the education he recieved. I am glad that tax payers pay for as many years as it takes.

Not necessarily. If a kid is a straight A student and is mature for their age then the only reason then to hold a kid back that I see would be athletics. Its hard to get much better academically if a student already makes All A's. Thats just the way I see it.

Is an extra year of education a bad thing? Obviously sports is a huge motivator for hold kids back. But one thing parents can look at as they get older is: 1) How are they doing academically? 2) How are they doing maturity-wise? 3) Will my child benefit more by being held back? Its hard to answer those questions when we are talking about a 5 year old.

I believe often times holding kids back benefits in a lot of ways other than sports. Kids are more mature when they get out of school and it almost always helps academically. I am all for that. Obviously sports is a huge reason for kids staying back, but it is definitly not the only benefit. I graduated high school when I was 17 and I definitly was not ready for the real world myself.

I believe you play the best player regardless of what grade they are in if they are in the same school system. Bell County's girls team this year won a lot of ball games because of a great 7th grade girl they had. I also had a family member finish 2nd in the state cross country meet a few years ago when she was in the 7th grade in 2A. I can remember Ty Proffitt at South Laurel being a key part of their regional championship when he was an 8th grader. Its really a bigger deal in girls sports.

You make good points, but at the same time if a kid is good enough why hold them back? How awful would it have been if OJ Mayo played middle school basketball as an 8th grader. It would not have been fair at all. My theory like in basketball is that if you move a kid up he needs to be a great player that is basically a can't miss high school guy. I just can't see not letting anyone who is in middle school play HS sports in middle school.

Thats an awkward situation then. You shouldn't miss your high school graduation. Also, it wouldn't be right to make the team, play in the 1st game and then leave them shorthanded.

If someone is good enough to compete why not let them play up? Its really a bigger deal in girls sports. Girls mature quicker and are often very capable of competing in high school sports. I don't think students should be deprived of this opportunity if they are good enough.

I didn't realize they played Bryan Station and Lafayette. Hall definitly carried them. Like I said, he was a great high school player and improved tremendously every year.

Who did Franklin County play this year? I remember them playing Shelby Co. But I also seem to think at one point it was odd that Franklin didn't have hardly any of the really good 11th region teams on the schedule. I felt like that probably hurt Hall. Hes a great player though.

If you look at Knipp and Euton both are big guys with great range. Euton played against tough competition all year and had to share the ball. Knipp was able to be on a team where he was the man and shot as much as he wanted and played against much lesser competition. If Euton was at Elliott Co. he would probably average 25 or 30 ppg. Euton was a great rebounder as well and deserves credit for that. This is a tough team to pick. Its very hard not to put Chiles on the 1st team, though. And Jones on the 2nd team. Also, I'd like to have seen Hatfield on the 2nd team.

Anyone heard anything else about this job? Its been really quiet concerning this position.

Homes is also liable to get some transfers. They have gotten 4 I know of in the last 4 years that were very good. They could be better than you think.

I believe Boyle Co. is the favorite. They won the title game and beat the 3 other best teams in 4A IMO to do it. Bell lost some key players, but I'm confident will be one of the top teams this year.

Yes Mason was the team of the decade. I think this past year was very impressive what the team accomplished. Yes, the draw did really help them at Rupp this year IMO, but a Final 4 for them wasn't expected by hardly anyone. The only thing I don't know about is the total wins and winning %. It may not be the highest.

Well if you want things at the KHSAA to remain the same then Tackett is the guy. I'd imagine the other 2 guys would make some changes, although I don't really know what. It would be interesting to know the other 2 guys views on public/private.

I remember him coaching at Evarts if this is the same guy. He was very loud and noticeable. He had a pretty good team in 2001 at Evarts.

I don't agree with this statement. The season hasn't even started yet. There is time for other players to develop even more and with teenage kids you never know what may happen with them. Lets let the season play out next year and then argue over whos Mr. Basketball. As for this year Elisha Justice was the man. He deserved the award and got it. I think it would have been awful if he didn't.

I got a forward email the other day for a book coming out called "Mountain Reign" which is centered around a team from the mtns. in the 50s making it to the Sweet 16, but I dont know the details.

A good friend of mine walked on at UK for a year and was given all sorts of free stuff and he really enjoyed the experience, but wasn't going to get to play at all. He then transferred to a smaller school and got next to nothing and had to buy his own cleets. But was in line to play a lot before a knee injury. Its a tough choice either way.

A lot of great players were left off. I suppose they tried to get kids from all over the state that were the best in their area. In doing that your probably going to miss on some great players from areas like Louisville where, especially this year, there were so many very good HS players.
