Woodford County Head Coach Job

Featured Replies

Just heard Woodford County is opening up their head coaching position. Coach Kirk took the realm this year as an interim and apparently is stepping down.

Who might be some applicants?

I heard it through the grape vine the there might be a Scott Hundley sighting in Woodford County????? The man is all over the place, but well deserving of a head coaching job!

I heard since Kirk took the job under the interim tag the school had to re-open the application process and Kirk can apply.

If Coach Kirk is re-applying then it sounds like the administration needs to make a decision on which direction they want to take the program...

Obviously, they could rehire Coach Kirk who is very well thought of in Versailles and has been with the program for a long time. However, he is probably not going to be able to give the long term commitment to the program.

On the other hand, the administration could go with a younger coach that would add a breathe of fresh air to the program who would be willing to put more time and energy into bringing a different look to the team.

Woodford County is a conservative community and doesn't always welcome change. In this case, I think change would be a good thing.

Lets add a younger coach that knows how to organize and build; players as well as a program.

If your looking for that with great ties to central Kentucky then Scott Hundley would be the man. He has been assistant to both Billy Hicks and Keith Griesser as well as played for the SEC coach of the year. He would be a slam dunk hire for someone.

What are you willing to trade for Coach Hundley? First round draft choice and a player to be named later? We are trying to build a dynasty over here in Mt. Sterling. Coach G, Coach H, and Coach W took a team of boys that most predicted would be lucky to win 10 games and they went 18-11.

Coach H would be a great hire for someone. He has worked for some outstanding coaches that have taught him both the easy stuff (practice/games) and the hard stuff (administration/parents).

We seem very excited over a person that has never coached a varsity game. Great pedigree no doubt but it is much different as the man in charge of the program. I hope your anointment is true but you just never know.

Every coach had to start somewhere. You never know until they are given that shot.

If Lexington Catholic girls that can hire someone that has never coached a game, surely someone with a great background like Scott Hundley is qualified to coach at Woodford County.

There is a former college bball player who has been a successfull coach for at least 15 years. He teaches in woodford co. But is the jv coach at west jessamine and just won the jv regional (the school's 1st). Why wouldn't they ask him? If it's really open.

I agree you have to start somewhere but the Woodford Job needs someone that can build a program. Wouldn't you feel more comfortable with someone that had experience with this? Its nothing personal, I just don't fall in love with names on resumes.

Whose to say that Hundley, the JV coach at Jessamine, or some other JV coach wouldn't do a good job. Some times a school has to take a chance on a JV coach rather than going out and finding a varsity coach from another school. As stated earlier in a previous post, it just depends on the direction in which the school wants their program to go in, that is why the interview process is so important for all parties involved.

I'd take Hundley over a LOT of guys with head coaching experience.

I would just find it hard to turn down experience. Especially if it was coupled with success. We're probably all off because let's face it the school will have to hire according to the teaching jobs they have open.
