I think wide out stats on any level can be misleading because of the fact that more factors and other players are involved: weather influencing the pass game, the play and status of the other wide outs, the coaching style, the offensive line, the opponents' defense (ALL THREE LAYERS), and especially QB. I think Bovard fell victim to a deep talented offense and a lack of being hit in the redzone. I know a lot of WRs that could have been on the list but I think these stats show CONSISTENT production from the WIDEOUT position (Austin Collinsworth didn't qualify stat wise because he devoted a lot of yards to rushing as well).

Qualifications: At least one season of 8 games played, an average of 50 yards receiving per game, and 9 touchdown receptions. That narrowed the list down to 8 candidates, the most consistent producers of both yardage and points on the receiving end of passes.

I used the stats on the KHSAA website to set the standard of these choices at any player who had at least one season from 2006 to 2010 of at least 8 games played, 15 rushing touchdowns, and 100 rushing yards per game. Those requirements produced this list of 20 players. Due to the statistical standards implemented I didn't include a selection for "other." This should be fun.

I don't think there is a single comment in this discussion that doesn't have validity. The conflict is some people try to be old school, zero tolerance while others say that reactions to offensive situations only give them longer life. I would not let my child wear a shirt with a swear word on it. If I was an administrator and I saw or heard something offensive, I would kick that kid out. But as an average adult fan in the stands, I think if I confronted a student in an offensive situation it would only ignite the situation more so because I gave them attention as a spectator.

Sometimes a fringe or isolated individual will make a poor judgment call, be it a coach losing his cool, students pushing the envelope too far, or a parent getting too personal in the stands. There are occasions where administration must step up. But in most situations people should just let it side. Confrontation, when not made by the proper authority, just leads to more problems. I think you could replace that sentiment of "soft/sensitive" with "looking for a fight" so to speak, a feeling that rises with competition. To support the same point with a different view, why address some of these "classless" actions when really its just adding attention to it? And at what point do we say an action is below a common standard? For me, this issue has too much grey and is too close to possibly infringing on people's rights. People on every side of this issue just need to be level-headed and not antagonize each other: "adults vs. kids," "my generation vs. your generation," "my school's social standing vs your school's," etc...

SK parent or Ryle parent, either way they are adults. I know if I was 16-17 and a parent called me out in front of my friends that would only escalate things. I'm not saying by any means the kids are in the right, but for anybody but an administrator to challenge them would be foolish. And I've seen administrators let alot of things go in the stands, especially chants and cheers. And I've seen administrators crack down on things alot less offensive. And I'm not faulting the SK administrators because I can't say with full certainty they actually saw anything. Bottomline: Some high school students made a poor judgment call. If random adults respond, its adding fuel to the fire. The word "classless" shouldn't be thrown around on these kids.

Raw Data: Out of 90 games surveyed (3 not reported, one being played tomorrow), the average difference between the winning and losing scores in the 1st round was 29.9 points. The extremes were Prestonsburg over Knott Co. Central 66 to 0 and Monroe Co. over Washington Co. 36 to 35/ Campbell Co. over GRC 35 to 34. There were sixteen "upsets" which represents roughly 18% of all games played. Fifteen games were decided by seven touchdowns or more which represents roughly one percent less than "upsets" at 17%. Twenty one games were decided by two touchdowns or less which represents roughly 23% of the games. That means that roughly 77% of the games were decided by more than two touchdowns. Interpretation: It's a lesser of two evils situation: keep it the way it is and have 3/4 of the games be non-competitive in the first round or limit the number of teams in to 2 per district and keep out potentially sixteen teams that would pull off upsets (with no certainty that they would win another game). You're either losing out on a higher quality of 1st round football or great games like West Jessamine over Holmes, Monroe Co. over Washington Co., and Campbell Co. over GRC.

Already referred to but NewCath of the 2000/01 season with Ronnie Dawn as a senior and also Highlands of 05/06 with Vories, Guidugli, etc... that lost to CovCath in the semis. Can also argue for 03/04 Boone with Rasso and McFarland that lost to CovCath in the finals when Rasso had the wrist issues.
