Also from the 10th region:

3rd team:

Treg Setty, Mason Co.

HM:

10th Region – Jordan Gilbert, Mason County; Kyle King, Deming; Luke King, Deming; Corey Rogers, Clark County; Kellen Smith, Scott.

Congrats to all those who were honored.

Good to see both Ricardo Johnson and Elijah Pittman on there as first team all staters.

Question though...how does Sewell get the most votes for all state first team, but not win Mr. Basketball?

Is it just me or does everyone not like the recent trend to put more than five players on "First Team?" That's just a little pet peeve of mine. But congratulations to all these young men.

I think this year you could've made a case for 10 different guys on the first team.

I don't see a problem with it.

I agree and next year with the loaded Junior class it will be a difficult choice for the top spots.

Congrats to all those who were honored.

The reason why Sewell gets the most votes in this is because the Courier Journal polled the coaches at the end of the regular season. Therefore, the coaches didn't get to see the post season play before this was voted on. This is why Justice won Mr. Basketball. The coaches voted on it after the post season was over.

The Courier Journal really needs to clarify when they polled the coaches because many people are going to be asking the same question. Kind of stupid to come out with this all state team 3 weeks after the state tournament was over when it was complete before district tournaments started.

This is incorrect!

The ballots were sent out prior to the end of the season but were not due back until after state. If the coaches are like anybody else, I bet they they waited until the last minute to fill them out.

As I stated in threads earlier this season, Sewell had THE best season this year and this validates that. Justice had a great season and career and won state and I think that's why he got the Mr. Bball vote but his overall resume for 2009-2010 in no way compared to Sewell's as he didn't get the opportunity to put up his numbers against near the level of competition(top 20 teams for the season). And Justice fans please exhale!- I'm not saying Justice may not have done the same if they had played a more difficult schedule(only four top 20 teams all year?) but he just didn't get the chance and that's not his fault.

Both kids had great years and both are moving on to hopefully great college careers!

Glad to see Timmy Knipp getting the respect he deserves! Think I saw a all-state last week were he was listed honorable mention, absolute joke, for what many consider our state's top talent.

Knipp got the 3rd most votes that kind of suprized me a bit, he got more votes than the Cov-Holmes or Scott Co players. The kid can score!

I talked to Jody today and want to add:

The deadline for voting was the Friday AFTER the boys state tournament and the CJ did receive a ton of votes after the postseason started.

The CJ sent the ballots out the last week of the regular-season (or just before that) but many coaches waited to send the ballots back.

The CJ Team is the longest running All-State team I know of - 72nd year - and for 72 years has been that way (ten players on the team).

Many are wrong. Behanan is better. Now, if Chane's out of the way next year, then I can see that being said.

Publicity wise Elliott County basketball has to be right in this very moment in the top ten programs in the state for what's been accomplished the last five years, so Timmy getting those votes shouldn't surprise. As far as Behanen goes think you're dead wrong, Timmy Knipp is by far the better talent! Hearing in some circles Knipp is getting Gordon Hayward comparisons.

Behanan or not, think Mr. Basketball 2011 is a two horse race between Stenzel and Knipp! Stenzel being in Central Kentucky gives him a vote advantage but think Knipp gets the award in the end by possibly taking all the mountain votes and "stealing" some of Stenzel's base votes.

How is it possible the Jacob Reiger of Brossart is the 10th region POY and not even an Honorable Mention?
