Three finalists have been named for the job of Kentucky High School Athletic Association commissioner, and the successor to Brigid DeVries could be named as soon as Tuesday afternoon.

 

All three finalists currently work in administration in Kentucky

Moore, 54, has been the superintendent for Mason County Schools for 13 years. He was named the 2009 Superintendent of the Year by the Kentucky School Boards Association.

 

Rison, 47, has been an assistant superintendent for Montgomery County Public Schools for two years. He also served as a coach and administrator at Montgomery County and Estill County for 11 years.

 

Tackett, 49, has been working for the KHSAA since July 1984 and currently is an assistant commissioner.

It is going to be very interesting to see who gets the job.

Mr. Tackett has been with the Association for a long, long time; one would think he has the inside track. Perhaps today's vote will be a referendum on the Board's perception of how the current staff leadership is doing.

Phil Rison would be a great hire...he works extremely hard at Montgomery County. Just look at the facilities and you can see that he has done an outstanding job in building up the athletics at MC.

Tackett probably has the best chance, but you never know.

Well if you want things at the KHSAA to remain the same then Tackett is the guy. I'd imagine the other 2 guys would make some changes, although I don't really know what. It would be interesting to know the other 2 guys views on public/private.

Agreed. It will be interesting to see if the public/private debates ratchet back up again after this hire, whoever it might be.

I agree, Julian Tackett certainly has the inside "status quo" track.

 

Phil Rison would be an excellent choice. He has worked dilligently for many years within the 10th Region Coaches Association, has been in the trenches as a coach (or assistant coach) himself, and has a broad-based knowledge of the problems facing the KHSAA today. He would be extremely fair and firm in his decision making, and always seems to want to do the right thing.

That being said, don't be shocked if Tackett doesn't get the job.

It has been said that the KHSAA needs stronger leadership. Tim Moore is a strong leader. This is going to be interesting.
