Okay heres my view. Will it benefit Corbin more than anyone else in the region to have it at the Arena? Yes it will. It will help the area, the city, and yes, the school. Does it benefit small schools who don't get to host the region? Yes it does. It gives them more money and in general does away with home court advantage. Will it be nice to have a big arena without split sessions and good parking (I'm assuming on the parking)? Yes, for the media and its a great venue I understand. Does it benefits schools like Harlan Co, Knox Central, Bell Co, South Laurel, and Clay Co? Probably not as much. They look forward to hosting the region every 7 or 8 years. So that is debatable. Does it take away from the excitement of having the region at the high school? Yes I believe it does. I saw the layout of the gym, although I have never been there it appears the fans are way off the floor and takes away from the excitement of having the fans so close to the action. The way I see it, it has its pros and cons, so I don't believe its a no-brainer decision.

I watched them play 5 or 6 times last year and I only witnessed it in person once. (I usually don't go to an entire JV game when I'm going to watch a game) but that was the talk from people at the game about him doing it a lot.

What if like now take turns with the districts. Whatever district hosts the regional tournament could vote on what to do that year.

Ive seen it done before at different schools. If a player starts varsity they probably don't need to play JV or freshmen ball. But its the coach's decision. Last year Bryan Station had a player who started JV and then after the JV game started varsity. Also, I remember at Bell Co. we started Jeremy Sanders as a freshman in varsity all year and then as a sophomore he actually played in some JV games. Then the Hicks kid at Shelby Co. last year as an 8th grader played freshmen, jv, varsity.

Its good to see some Ky teams getting some national attention. Hopefully both teams can climb the rankings.

I think Bell Co's weapons on offense along with they typically good defense is going to be too much for Rock. Also, Bell's offensive line is probably the best weve had in a while.

:thumb: Its really a hard game to predict, because Lawrence Co. hasn't really been tested. They deserve credit for having a great year, but I don't think they have played a team as good as KC. It will be interesting to see how good they are.

The nice thing about EKU would be a centralized location. I think most people in the state in all actuality would rather have it in Lexington or Louisville.

I may have to make the trip to see Eastern and Tates Creek! That is a big time matchup of 2 top 10 teams in the state. I don't know much about any of the out of state schools.

What high school would be hosting the tournament this year if its not going to be played at the Arena?

Really in 6th grade you are learning math that a lot of students have a problem with later on that is actually more useful to most people in real lift than the math used later on. Also, grammar is taught more extensively at that age. Grammar is on the ACT, yet is not worked on much at all passed say the 7th grade. I think a big thing is students get another year to mature. I would guarantee if there was a study done students who get held back make better grades.

I read your post and it is a contradiction. You criticize Eastern Ky for having a disdain for intelligence and then criticize people from Eastern Ky for holding their kid back and them having an extra year of school. What is it about holding students back that is so bad?

What a contradiction! You say that people in Eastern Ky have a disdain for intelligence (which is way off base) and then get upset when students are held back and spend an extra year in the classroom learning. There is no doubt that sports plays a big part in students getting held back, but with the students who I know who have been held back there was always multiple reasons to do so. Sports, academics, and maturity level are the big 3 reasons I have seen to hold students back. If thats what parents want to do then I am all for it. If they don't want to do that then I am all for that too.

Highlands shouldn't have any problems this year. They are loaded and I believe 5A is a little down this year on top of that.

Typically here lately Fayette Co. schools don't even get to play in the Sweet 26. There has not been a Fayette Co. school in atleast the last 5 years playing in Rupp. Harlan Co. really wants to host a regional tournament with their new facility. I think that would be a good thing for them. I will say this. Not having to travel to the regional tournament every year is an advantage for Corbin when teams like the Harlan schools have a long distance to go every year. Also, another theory is not to have it at the same place every year because the people running the facility take it for granted and won't do as good of a job puttin on the tournament. Thats just me playing devil's advocate. There is a lot of benefits to it as well. The parking and a new facility is really nice. I hear the payoff for all the regional schools will be substantial as well. One other worry I did have in looking at the layout is it appeared the fans would be way off the floor. The excitement of a regional game where the fans are right on top of the action may not be matched.

Why is it absurd? Is another year of education a bad thing. Especially in Eastern Ky, particularly in an area where intelligence is looked at with disdain. :lol: When I see your comments I wonder why you live in Ky and ever lived in Eastern Ky.

I have found with a lot of kids that get held back there is more than just sports involved. Is it a big reason to get held back? Yes it is. Is it the only reason? I'd say no, not for most kids anyways. I had a family member get held back and he excelled more in athletics and went from a B-C student to an A-B honors student and ended up being an engineer now. I think he made the right choice for him.

Good win for Bell Co. Rockastle will be fired up to go against us. I hope we are healthy and ready for them!

Polson to me was the smartest, headiest player I watched all year last year and has a knack for drawing fouls.

I think the game a lot people want to see is Bell Co. vs. Boyle Co. These are 2 similar programs IMO. They are rural county schools that can compete year in and year out with just about anyone in the state. Both teams, however have a lot of work to do to make it to that point!

Very good list! I know Chris Gaither played at Georgetown college and had a good career there.
