Almost made up for 2000 and 2001. 2000 NewCath was down by 6, I believe, in the 3rd and had the ball at the 15 going in to score. QB sack, fumble, and TD return broke the back. 2001 NewCath DOMINATED the 2nd half after a fairly even 1st half everywhere but the scoreboard. Score to go down 1with 5 to go in the 4th and miss the extra point. They got the ball back and, just one of those throws from a great QB...wide receiver was open in the end zone but it just didn't get there and it was picked. Snake bit for sure.

NewCath v Danville 2006. NewCath comes back from 17 down with 10 minutes to go. A huge, anchor weighted monkey falls off of the Breds' backs.

Exactly. Just a weak excuse. CovCath has a once very 25 year type team for their program. Instead of saying, "That is one great team," he does this. Every time a team from NKY or Louisville is above average they are accused of benefitting from some imaginary system. You never hear this about Bowling Green or Mayfield. Now, I understand that CovCath is private, but the same has been said about Beechwood and Highlands in the past. The only benefits that these schools have that aren't available to others are more people and more schools for them to choose from. There is nothing that can be done to level that part of the field.

There is veracity to it. HOWEVER, there are enough strong public programs in metropolitan areas to refute a lot of this. What is the track record with Highlands and CovCath? It is about coaching and program construction, mostly, Coach, where population is equal. Look at Colerain and the Indy schools for inspiration, quit looking at the local Lexington schools and make excuses. All of this is moot if the talent isn’t there consistently any way.

Isn't this Senior only?

Don’t know what Bohn’s arm strength is like, but Mayer’s out and deep ball don’t need extra flight to get there. He has a D1 arm. High School stats are often system stats

How far apart are the two schools?

Great question. I think lack of camps may have hurt him in that regard. Maybe it is the recent run of big recruits from NKY that fizzled out in college, or before school even started. I don’t know. All I can say is the only QB that I have seen up here with Mayer’s accuracy to all parts of the field is Guidugli. Those two look the most similar.

In fairness, a lot of the hype around him early was due to the family he is from. It is a very impressive lineage of athletes. 2015 was his second or 3rd career start as a Sophomore, learning a different style of offense, playing against St. X. How many QBs look good against that defense? I didn't get the hype last year, honestly. The accuracy was not there. This year, though...completely new level. Throw in his intangibles and you have a steal for Miami.

His arm strength and accuracy improved leaps and bounds over last year. A summer spent working on QB fundamentals and not baseball did him a world of good.

Are any of the Freshmen getting time? Is Ahfeld playing b-ball?

I am in this boat, BUT, if any are better than AJ then I want to see them.

The same question for Butler. The most underrated player in a long time up here.

Time to roll coverage and bracket Elmore. The old Jeff Blake floater is allowing Elmore to dictate the fight for the ball. 11 will have a better angle than 3, who is having a tough time finding the ball.

They never will. Simon Kenton has the imaginative staff, but to match up athletically w/ T, particularly at linebacker is a bridge too far. Additionally, the lines don't seem to be able to compete. You'd think Ryle would with the youth program, but they need to produce QBs w/ better frequency. Obviously they won't all be program changers, but efficient game managers would be a huge benefit to them. That added offensive dimension is a huge need for them.

If Beechwood and NewCath flip, I think that NewCath could have sustained success in 1A.

No. He asked how many kids from Ft. Thomas wound up not playing for Highlands. I was just giving some of the kids.

Hamblen grew up in Bellevue. Again, I am putting both sides out there. People said that Highlands isn’t getting outside players. They still are. They are not getting these types of outside players. To pretend that those 9 didn’t have a huge impact is ignoring the truth. To say that that is the only reason Highlands won is ignoring the truth. The truth is that Highlands had an advantage with Mueller. He recognized what he had coming back and spent all off season adjusting his player physical and skill development around it. He won a state title in 2000 throwing for 300 plus a game. 4 years later he goes back in time and runs the jet sweep to death, loads his defense with athletes and pays back Boyle. He was, obviously, a genius in evaluating and developing talent. Not saying that as a slight to current staff or players bc I have no clue about the talent or coaching as I haven’t been to a game in a while.
