  1. Do they still do the head coach coach during timeouts while the 7 assistants converse with the referees?
  2. You dont mean that. Excuse or not, that schedule and travel takes a toll. Add to it 3 of the best teams in the state, 2 from the city hosting the tourney, and you get unique challenges that won’t be faced at any other point in the season.
  3. Comparing stats is great if you have nothing else to compare QBs to. You can make stats dance in all sorts of wonderous ways. They also don’t tell all of the story. All of the guys that we are comparing on here at QB made the state finals. There were multiple streaming games for people who vote to watch them play. Maybe it was to the point of just splitting hairs and they took a state champ who was more vital to his team in their opinion?
  4. Should Mayfield and Trinity not expect the same? When multiple generations go through and win multiple championships with multiple coaches, expectations are set. I do not think Highlands beats CovCath with Bill Belichek this year or Bowling Green previous to that. What I did see was a very slow change in tactical philosophy. That would need to improve. Adaptability to talent and recognizing talent seemed too slow to get the proper personnel gelling when it mattered the most.
  5. Brent Grover from Highlands played in the Army All American game and had a good career at Purdue after being recruited very heavily. Kam Butler is as close of a player to him as you will find. I don’t get why he didn’t have more offers. He is a future DE at the college level with great athleticism and instincts. Unless his size is really marked up in the program, what I saw on Hudl all year doesn’t add up.
  6. He grew up playing as a Fire Fighter and lived in south Newport. Interesting. He's a great guy who lives and dies the game.
  7. No...not Nick. Ha ha. I remember umpiring a knothole game and he asked me if I wanted him to hit a grand slam (bases loaded obviously). I said sure, and he said, "Center Field." Two pitches later....
  8. I don’t remember relatives coaching when I was there. We had coaches from outside of the NewCath family.
  9. I will say that the atmosphere and vibes around the programs seem similar. I like BW. I hope it gets turned around for his sake but more importantly for the boys that I watched grow up dreaming of being at this point. It would make for a good story.
  10. Fact. He was the best at identifying talent and identifying what kind of team he had tactically speaking.
  11. That celebration was in horribly bad taste regardless of who you cheer for. It cost Vonteze his season.
  12. The catch in the 2nd quarter to extend the drive right before the half was outrageous. Over his shoulder in his blind spot....no problem
  13. Since 1966 NewCath Bob Schneider Eddie Eviston Dan Wagner 3 coaches over 51 seasons.
  14. Different circumstances. Coach Schneider went into a Bobby Bowden role. I don’t know what relationship BW has with his coordinators or what the roles are
  15. A right, yes. Everyone has a right to their own feelings and opinions. They have a right to voice displeasure. They have a duty to do it in a classy manner.
  16. Not a huge Highlands guy, but this is probably the worst 3 year stretch in the program's history. A lot of it, from the outside just watching games on Hudl, seems to be down to a lack of adjustments both in game and from game-to-game (particularly defensively). For the passion that Highlands folks have for football, I'd say that they have a right to expect a lot more.
  17. I would say that each man listed is a good man with his heart in the right place. There is no doubt in my mind that the coaches did everything in their ability to make the players better people and athletes.
  18. I would not be, but went to grade school in Newport with kids that I guess fit the bill. That's not my point. My issue is that when discipline begins to wane, it doesn't matter where the kids are from. I've seen my friends from both sides of the track be extremely respectful b/c they were raised to be that way. I have seen friends from both sides of the track that were punks b/c they could be, or something else was causing them to act out. Socioeconomic groupings wasn't this team's or staff's problem.
  19. Inner city kids is a cop out. I will leave it at that. I won’t answer IMs or anything of that sort but inner city kids line really stuck a cord.
  20. Trammel was going to get in as soon as Larkin got in. Their careers were pretty similar offensively speaking. Morris led the AL in wins for the 80s. IF you lead the league for a 10 year total in any major category, you should get into the Hall of Fame. A decade is a VERY long time to be the number 1 guy at the end of it.
