Game ended at a 0-0 tie then no score in the two 5 minute overtime periods and then St. Henry comes away with the victory in PK's.

Congrats, Cru!

And congrats to Highlands on a nice season.

Was not an especially pretty game but a win is a win. The Cru has a special player in goal. She really came through for them a couple times last night. Congrats to St Henry.

So a few more details to the game....

Highlands controlled possession a good portion of the game but the Cru defense really played well. Annie Rice, Stacey Staub, Erin Cheek, Natalie Pope, Caroline Gartner, all did a great job keeping Highlands out and when they did get through Keeper Cori Riegler made some great saves preserve the shutout.....Highlands had a couple chances in OT with one of the shots even hitting off the crossbar..

Onto the PK period.....

Riegler was the first to take a kick for St. Henry and it went high

I believe Deckert took the first for Highlands and it went high as well

Next Natalie Pope took a shot that was blocked by Highland Keeper Maggie Hinegardner but keeper was called for leaving her line too early...re-kick went wide right

Then Highlands player shot was off frame as well 0-0 after two rounds

Round 3 Abby Keiperts shot was blocked but Highlands keeper again was called for leaving her line-Re-kick by Keipert and this time she nailed it

Riegler stopped the next PK that took a funny bounce after she blocked it and almost rolled in from the backspin of the ball but she reached out to stop it from crossing the line just in time

Round 4-Hinegardner makes the save vs Stephanie Grome from St. Henry and Riegler punches Highlands shot over the top of the goal 1-0 St. Henry after 4 rounds

Round 5-Erin Cheek from St. Henry with an great shot to seal the win for the Lady Cru.

Is that some kind of record for missed PKs?

In any event, congrats to St. Henry!

Only watched the first half but HHS also had two goals waived off for off sides.

Good luck to the Lady Crusaders on Saturday. Sounds like it was a fun game to watch.

Saturday night will be an entertaining game. I don't know who will win, but I do know that the fried Oreos will be 3 for $1 at the concession stand.

Congratulations to the Crusaders and the Pandas for reaching the final. May the best team win and tear into the state tournament starting the following week.

Can't wait for the fried Oreos on Saturday...... Oh, and the game too.

Sad that this sport can't determine a better way of breaking ties.

Same thing happened tonight in the Highlands-CovCath boys game tonight - Highlands wins in PKs.

Pretty simple solution from my perspective. Simply play the two 5 minute OT periods without the keepers and let the kids determine the winner.

Also both 37th District finals games between Brossart and Campbell County were decided by PK Shootouts.

Or take a few players off the field and play 7 on 7. Kinda like hockey.

.

I prefer the old shoot out method of 1:1 against the goalie.

5 players from each team. Like PK's now.

Anything but PKs!!!

It's a flawed game.

Play a 5 minute OT, take a player off each side, play another 5 minute OT, take another player off the field...etc

Sooner or later someone will score. Much better than PK's.

Why not just play till someone scores. They don't change a baseball game to get a winner faster. Just play till someone wins.
