Who'll be the next dominatimg team in Ky?

Featured Replies

A lot of dominating runs have recently come to an end.. Here's some examples:

Highlands had a 7-8 year run of Titles and Championship appearances that ended a couple years back.

Mayfield had a stellar 7 year run from 09 to 15, which ended last year..

Belfry's recent dominating run came to an end last week..

Bowling Green had quite a run these last 6-7 years, as well and also got put out last week..

Trinity continues on it's run and look to be going nowhere anytime soon..

So, outside of Trinity, who does everyone think will be the next team to make a big run like 4-5 straight title appearances like the above teams had.. Will it be someone different or do you think one or more of the above are most likely to get on another run?

I’d say Beechwood if they stay in 1A. Not sure how they will stack up in 2A if they move up.

Myself, I think Johnson Central has a good chance.. 4A lacks the star power of teams that the other classes have and they seem to be a notch or 2 ahead of the pack..

I also think Beechwood has a chance, but, if they get moved to 2a in the next realignment, that run could be short lived..

Cov Catholic would be my 3rd choice, but, I do expect Highlands to be back sooner than later and BGreen will most likely be very strong again in the upcoming years, so, they'll have a tough road to maintain a 4-5 year run..

I think Cov Cath may have an especially great team this year, but I also believe this is the evidence of the system at work that has been building up to this. As long as they keep getting kids and the coaches stick together, this is the start of a big cov cath run.

Seeing Bowling Green twice every year for the past several years (can't escape them), I'll say that they are reloading. Not getting to the championship one year doesn't mean that their run is over. The way it's been (correct me if I am wrong) 3 off 3 off then 2 so that's 8 in the last 10? Am I close? And it wasn't like they got blown out in their loss. Believe me, there's no love lost for the purples, but you have to respect them. I wish I could say Owensboro was coming on but that conversation is for another day on another thread. I will say that they'll be more competitive next year but for them (or any team in this area) to get to the championship, they have to go through Bowling Green. IMO I don't think Mayfield is falling off either. Ask Owensboro Catholic. If I was a player for Owensboro, I wouldn't want it any other way (Don't get me wrong, I'd take the win at Rash too). I'd want to go to Bowling Green and beat them there, shake their hands and move on. A daunting task to say the least. For the Red Devils to get to Lexington next year that will be exactly what they'll have to do. Sorry South Warren, one win doesn't make you one of the dominate teams in the area, let alone the state.

Still plenty of household names left to win titles this year; let's not forget that.

1A will likely be Beechwood. Nothing against Pikeville, but I think many of us would love to see Raceland break through and at least get there. Campbellsville knocking off the Beechies would be something to see also.

2A all four have either won it all once, multiple times or at least been to multiple finals despite not winning it(Glasgow)

3A all four have state titles and/or appearances to their name.

4A see 3A.

5A The west teams have all won titles while a newcomer in appearance if nothing else will be new, but that's kind of been 5A east deal. They are the wide open one if ever such a thing (Cooper, Pulaski County and now either Madison Southern or Harlan County have represented the East the last several years)

6A I don't know of anybody outside of Trinity, St. X and Scott County fans that wouldn't like to see Central Hardin get there and win it all, but.

I'm not trying to be a downer, but lets not get carried away with wishful thinking here. The rich have been, are and will continue to be just that for the most part in this state for the vast majority of title games as they have in the past, likely now and for years to come.

In terms of dominating runs, though? If Beechwood stays 1A for years to come then it's them.

Boyle County will be in the state finals the next 3 years!!!

Simon Kenton is getting there.

Where? It's hard to say that when SK hasn't even been the best team in nky the last couple years.

Beechwood is already a dynasty type of program. CovCath has had a great year this year but will they be able to sustain momentum beyond this season. I do see Highlands getting back to being Highlands but other than those 3, NKY doesn't have a program that can sustain long championship runs.

They been one of the NKY teams every year since 2012.

No NKY 6A team will ever be a dominating team.

I don’t see any team dominating in NKY after this year. Cov cath was hands down the best this year. For the next several, HHS, Cov cath, and Ryle are all be loaded with talent. It’s going to be an exciting 3-4 years ahead of us in northern ky.

Let's make one clear point... just because some teams lost the other night doesn't mean their dominating run is necessarily over

With that said:

Boyle County, Corbin, Etown, CAL, and Pikeville all have bumper crops of youn talent over the next few years and will definitely be at a high level.

Glasgow should be up for a couple years.
