Glad it you finally get I think Ryle is better than Cooper, it only took three posts and me writing it about six times. But glad it's clear. The first three or so times I said it, you kept wanting to take me down some who beat who road. I said in post one Ryle did beat Cooper, no reason to think they wouldn't again, and I think they are the better team. Pretty easy to follow. But we're clear now. My original remark was made in passing in response to the thread title. You are the one who has like a dozen or more posts in here arguing about Cooper's worthiness of X or Y ranking. So, I deduced it must be a big deal to you. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you just like to argue. As far as personal attacks, I didn't make any. Your perception seems to change to fit your needs from post to post, so maybe that's the case here. I will say again that you seem to be doing for Cooper football what UKFan does for Simon Kenton football. You have single handily turned me into a big fan of the Jags. Maybe I should change my username to Sandclassy. Has a nice ring.

So are you in favor of the current football playoff system? Are you an advocate for more classes in all sports? Who are implying is griping? Your post was clear as mud.

Let me preface my response by stating I really like high school football. It's my favorite spectator sport. We have this discussion every year, and every year I say the same thing: Kentucky football has too many classes and let too many teams in the playoffs. Every year people bring up baseball, basketball, etc. and their postseasons. That's rubbish. Those sports have one class, but more schools participating. Someone explain that one to me. No one ever explains it. It's far easier to be mediocre in football but still make the state championship, or even win one, than any other sport. why has football been given that crutch? That's a problem to me. Cut football back to four classes, and allow only the top two teams from each district to make the playoffs and you'd really have something IMO. Cut it back to four classes and allow four teams from each district in, and it would be a little watered down but it would be good enough. Or you can treat football like every other team sport and cut it down to the bare bones of one or two classes and have an apples v apples argument. In that case, I'd say let them play.

I'll stick with the bolded and try this again, though continually making the same point to someone who doesn't both to actually read a post they quote, is a effort in futility. I get that. I said Ryle beat Cooper, AND I have no reason to think they wouldn't do it again. I said I think Ryle is the better team and thus they should replace Cooper in the poll. Frankly I'm shocked someone cares that much who gets to be ranked the 10th best team in NKY. But if it means that much to you, sure Cooper could be there I guess. There's what two dozenish teams that play football in NKY, so if being ranked 10th is something you want to hang your hat on, have at it. Based on your posts it appears to me you do as much for Cooper football as UKFan does for the Pioneers. I know you've turned me into a huge Jags fan.

Not sure what logic you are following. I stated Ryle beat Cooper. I stated I have no reason to believe they wouldn't beat them again. I stated I believe Ryle is the better team. Thus, I would replace Cooper with Ryle in the poll. I never mentioned NCC. But, since you did, I'm aware Cooper beat them. If you want to argue Cooper is better than NCC, have at it. I could not care less. I left NCC in the poll though because I think they are better than Cooper at this juncture of the season.

Just jumping in, and the late two point try stood out, though I don't want to jump to conclusions. How much time was left? Is the running clock started at 36? Could it be CovCath has an "automatic" call on XP's based on the alignment they see and the players just bounced to that?

Pretty good list. I'm not sold CovCath is the third best team, but then again I'm not sure they aren't the second either. Middle of the pack is a mass of bodies that you could argue about any number of ways. Balance, parity, I guess there's a lot of names for it. I would have Ryle in at number 10. They did beat Cooper in week 1 or zero or whatever. Not sure they would do it now, but certainly not sure they still wouldn't. Personally, I think Ryle is the better team. But, Raider Nation sure has been tight lipped this season. Seems like Ryle posts used to light up this board. Now, narely a word. Maybe we need to check Union for silos, they must be working on some top secret stuff.

I don't care how savvy you think I am, you've lost me at this point. Our state's "flag bearer" is only going to receive marginal respect/interest/exposure or whatever it is you are looking for in any given year anyway. Why worry about it? Again, T, X, Highlands and Male have gotten some national ink over the years, but it's not a regular occurrence and never will be. Even if it did become a regular thing, it is no way any indication of the level of football played in Kentucky. 6A looks more open than it's been in a while. All the other classes look to be business as usual. What exactly has changed with the state of affairs in Kentucky football, other than one team seems flawed for a change?

While as a general statement, I agree with what you said, I think what's happened is the top schools have fallen a bit in some classes rather than other schools raising their level of play. Seems like the thread was created to discuss Kentucky's relevance nationally or perhaps regionally. I don't get that. Kentucky football is only going to be recognized outside the state on a marginal basis regardless. T, X, and maybe Male and Highlands can and have gotten some national exposure over the years but that's not going to be an annual thing ever. The 6A playoffs should be fun this year. I look at that as a good thing. Personally, I think whoever comes out of Louisville still wins the whole thing, but I can sure see where fans from other schools are excited they have a chance. And I'm starting to think some may really have a shot. In the other classes, isn't it pretty much business as usual, or am I missing something?

So I guess the question has to be asked, is Bach visiting Charleston in South Carolina or West Virginia? Big difference.

The bolded would have been a neat trick since Ohio didn't start having playoffs until 1972. Prior to that, state champions were determined by an AP vote.

He is likely visiting University of Charleston, the DI school in South Carolina. Charleston University, the DII school in West Virginia, could also be interested in him though.

St. Henry is in Boone County. The mailing address doesn't not necessarily reflect the county of a location. Most of Miami Township (OH) is in Clermont County. Many of those homes have Loveland mailing addresses. Loveland is in Hamilton County. Many more examples etc. I'm almost positive that as you approach St. Henry on Donaldson (Airport) Road, there is a sign proclaiming you have entered Boone County. Also, almost positive the school uses Boone County deputies for security at their games.

I'll give this a shot, and think I can give you a pretty good answer, though based on your posts it won't satisfy what it is you are really looking for. To the bolded: The first bolded just irritated me because you keep reffering to the Louisville program. That's Charlie Strong's department, and in Louisville their are many high school programs. Which high school programs are you speaking of, because you can't lump them all together? Louisville has really good high school programs, really bad ones, and some in between. You answered the second bolded with the third bolded. Everyone says it when it comes to 6A in the playoffs, because it is exactly what has happened in the 6A playoffs. Your third bolded is exactly why people say what they say, they are using history as an indicator of probable outcome. Not sure what's hard to grasp about that. As a generic answer, I will say Jefferson County is a large metro area with a lot of students, money, and other resources available to produce good football. NKY has all of the above as well. I think the difference is really a philosophical one that is unique to NKY. In Jefferson County, all the public schools are in the same school district if I'm not mistaken. In NKY, Boone, Kenton, and Campbell counties all have independent schools within their counties, along with three different county systems. Creates smaller schools, more schools, and more schools who are able to determine what is important to their district (i.e. Beechwood and Highlands) where the community is football oriented. For years, Jefferson County required all their teams to play in whatever the largest class the KHSAA offered was. I don't know but have to believe that cost some schools in the county state titles had they been allowed to play in their proper class. It's done wonders for Central, since the rule was rescinded. If you take the five best teams from Louisville vs. the five best teams from NKY year in and year out, I will take Louisville every year and feel pretty comfortable. If you expand that to the top 15 in each area, the water gets much more murky. If you take the Louisville 6A super district against the NKY 6A district year in year out, I'm picking Louisville every year. I'll win that bet 16 out of 20 years, I'll push on three years at best, and I could lose once every 20.

Mostly this. Best example I've seen in the thread. I'm not sure Kentucky has 22 really good teams, or Ohio has 150 really good ones, but you have the right idea. Using Highlands as an example, when they play Elder, St. X, Colerain, or Moeller they are playing WAY WAY up in class. Highlands losing to those teams isn't really an good example of Ohio vs. Kentucky. And, at the top, Ohio is far better and deeper than Kentucky. You get to the round of eight in Ohio D-I and you can look at anyone not named Trinity in Kentucky most years and name the score. But outside, the elite of Ohio, the state's look the same a lot. In a year Highlands was losing to an Elder or Moeller, they likely would have beaten a Lebanon, or Anderson (then both were DII schools). When Wyoming was really good, really good Beechwood teams would have and I think did beat them. Same with Beechwood over most DIII or DIV schools. NCC would always compete very well with schools it's size on the Ohio side of the river as well. Ohio's top heavy at the DI level with really good teams. Kentucky is really thin with really good teams at it's largest level. Kentucky catches up in the lower enrollment levels.

Adding to my first post, "effort and heart" are words often spoken by someone who can't figure out what is really going wrong. Did CovCath miss blocks? Did they turn the ball over? Did they miss tackles? Did they get knocked off the LOS? Were they wearing snowboots at a track meet? These are reasons teams lose high school football games most of the time. I think it's unfair to question a team's effort and heart after losing a rivalry game to a far superior team. If there wasn't effort in this game, then it couldn't have been there before. Don't call them out now. If a lot of the other things I mentioned are true, then question the coaching. But, having seen both teams play, the better team won. It tends to happen.

In order to stay in BGP's good graces, I'll be as polite as possible on this one. I haven't read the game thread yet, but whoever said this doesn't have the first clue. The CovCath kids didn't decide to show no effort today of all days. If the effort wasn't there today, then it hasn't been there all year, including their wins. Somebody should have something sooner. I can guarantee the players showed the same effort today as they did when they beat Boone. Teams either play hard or they don't, but they don't pick their weeks. It doesn't work that way. If anyone thinks CovCath, or anyone else in NKY, is on a par with Highlands, they are misguided. Highlands talent is superior to everyone in the area. I've been saying for years on here Dale has built a better mousetrap.

Not Specht's finest moment certainly. If it's fourth and inches I can live with it a lot more. Fourth and two in overtime with the other team getting the ball next, is not the time for a gamble like this. X people like Specht a lot, but this one will have them crosseyed for a while.

I guess you could call me a fan of Ohio high school football, and I like the system just fine. Given the number of teams in the state, the only alternative would be to shorten the regular season. I actually think it's the best system possible for the state, given the number of schools. If you go 6-4 against average competition and don't make the playoffs, I guess you weren't good enough. Life lesson learned. This isn't the YMCA where everyone wins and we all have orange slices after the game.
