Watered down playoffs!

Featured Replies

Yes it's that time again! I know we've debated it til we're blue, but not one supporter of the "playoffs system is good the way it is" will convince me anything good will come from this game. Nothing against Boyd Co, but what do either of these two teams get out of playing this game? And again nothing against BC, but why would this team (regardless of who it is) deserve a playoff spot? Shouldn't it be a privilege to make it to the state tournament playoffs?

I do agree about BC. When there are only 4 seeds per district I think it's a joke that a district with 5 teams gets all 5 in.

Stupid if you ask me.

Well I guess you can say they are getting hot at the right time. They won their last game.

Best time of the year to be a Highlands JV player.

Or Frosh..

I know this whole debate comes up every year. I like the 4 teams get in but only when there are more than 4 to a district. At least for Cooper last week, the game meant something. We had to win tto get in the playoffs. Boone didn't need to win anything and they are in. That is the one part of the pplayoff system I don't like. All teams should be equal and that is they have to earn their way in, if noot then let efveryone in.

Not a good situation. Raceland beat Boyd County by 40 and I can say that Raceland at no time had their full starting lineup on the field at the same time, including the first series.

But, I guess this is where someone argues that "at least Boyd County gets one more week of practice to get better for next season".

The only real fix is to cut the amount of teams allowed in, in half. That would cripple our district as X and Manual would be out, and both are viable title contenders.

There should be a point system kind of like they do in Ohio...

That would suck. But that is the ONLY district in the entire state that would have that issue. So I'd still have to go with that. Also, you'd know that going in. That just means your playoff run starts earlier than everyone elses because district games actually mean something!

Oh lord no!!! Why come up with some contrived system when it can be played out on the field.

This district is another artificial (and arguably illegal - literally) creation of KHSAA to appease whiny coaches. Its arbitrary (and hence why it could run into a legal challenge if a drastic change such as taking only 2 teams ever came about) just like the rotation of this district so that a new regions are formed each year in 6A.

Yea, point system is just bad. Point system came into play in the tie breakers as it is and that isn't a fair way of doing it at all.

Just let either 3 or 4 teams in every district and go from there. Letting 5 teams in is kind of silly.

Yes there are blowouts every year and every year there are 3 and 4 seeds that make a run.

Every time there is an objectionable call by an official the court is to "Let them settle it on the field/court".

College football is the best example, no one is happy that there is not a playoff to determine a champion.

What about teams in a 3 way tie for district championship where the team playing the easiest schedule is rewarded with tie breaker points and gets top seed.

No one worries about first round blow outs in Soccer, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball and every other sport in Ky High Schools...where EVERY team makes the playoffs and in many cases can lose a game and still advance to the next round.

High School Football is great, there's not but a very small handful of kids that would rather miss the playoffs than get blown out but get a chance to play one last time...all would rather have one more chance to play and walk on that field with their brothers. Unlike other sports unless you go to college and play, HS is the last time you'll ever get a chance to play your sport. Basketball Rec leagues have guys 50 years old still playing, softball is the same way...not many if any Rec tackle football leagues out there, this is the last time many will every put on the pads.

It is a shame that some people get on their high and might horse and look down their noses on those teams that don't meet their magical standards...to quote a GREAT MOVIE..."Let them PLAY!!!"
