Yes there are blowouts every year and every year there are 3 and 4 seeds that make a run.

 

Every time there is an objectionable call by an official the court is to "Let them settle it on the field/court".

 

College football is the best example, no one is happy that there is not a playoff to determine a champion.

 

What about teams in a 3 way tie for district championship where the team playing the easiest schedule is rewarded with tie breaker points and gets top seed.

 

No one worries about first round blow outs in Soccer, Softball, Basketball, Volleyball and every other sport in Ky High Schools...where EVERY team makes the playoffs and in many cases can lose a game and still advance to the next round.

 

High School Football is great, there's not but a very small handful of kids that would rather miss the playoffs than get blown out but get a chance to play one last time...all would rather have one more chance to play and walk on that field with their brothers. Unlike other sports unless you go to college and play, HS is the last time you'll ever get a chance to play your sport. Basketball Rec leagues have guys 50 years old still playing, softball is the same way...not many if any Rec tackle football leagues out there, this is the last time many will every put on the pads.

 

It is a shame that some people get on their high and might horse and look down their noses on those teams that don't meet their magical standards...to quote a GREAT MOVIE..."Let them PLAY!!!"

To me....your entire post wreaks of "give them all a trophy"....I'm not cool with it in any sport. Earn your playoff sport, regardless of class, sport, etc.....otherwise, we are "dumbing down" the system.

Everyone makes post season in basketball and baseball as well.

Last year there were several H.S. basketball teams that were winless in the district tourney. Unfortunately, this is what it has come down to.

Didn't a third or fourth seed team make the finals recently?

Doesn't a fourth seed team or two almost always beat a #1?

 

There are some teams that will always kill their first round opponent, regardless how many teams are in the playoffs. Maybe their fans should go to the movies the first weekend of the playoffs.

Cooper was a #3 seed last year and made it to the 5A finals last year and Simon Kenton made the Finals as a #4 seed recently.

SK got blown out by Trinity and Cooper played really well and kept it very close.

Anderson County also made a run to the finals as a 3 or 4 seed in 5A, two years ago. I believe it is more likely to happen in the larger classes as the small classes are top heavy dominated.

Anybody getting trophies for losing in the first 3 rounds of the playoffs? The attitude from those wanting to limit the number of teams wreaks of the superiority complex IMO of many fans. Remember the coaches and AD voted for this...the only people that seem to have a problem with settling it on the field are elitist that think playoffs should be 2-3 rounds and get on to basketball.

 

What harm does it do for teams to play more football?

 

Unlike 20 or 30 years ago making the playoffs isn't a big deal to these kids so it's not like your giving them a trophy, they know they have to win 3 games just to win the Region! Then 2 more to win state!

 

Cut back the teams and everyone in the playoffs gets a trophy as a Reg Winner or Runner-up...now teams have to earn that with wins...this is in no way "Giving everybody a trophy"

Does that matter? They played them selves to a state runner up...it was settled on the field?
