CovCath is normally a pretty good team. The support is there and the players are there. I've said it before, HHS doesn't breed super human kids. They develop those kids and get the best from them.

 

As far as what CovCath is missing in relation to Highlands, I don't have a comment...

In order to stay in BGP's good graces, I'll be as polite as possible on this one. I haven't read the game thread yet, but whoever said this doesn't have the first clue.

 

The CovCath kids didn't decide to show no effort today of all days. If the effort wasn't there today, then it hasn't been there all year, including their wins. Somebody should have something sooner. I can guarantee the players showed the same effort today as they did when they beat Boone. Teams either play hard or they don't, but they don't pick their weeks. It doesn't work that way.

 

If anyone thinks CovCath, or anyone else in NKY, is on a par with Highlands, they are misguided. Highlands talent is superior to everyone in the area.

Adding to my first post, "effort and heart" are words often spoken by someone who can't figure out what is really going wrong.

 

Did CovCath miss blocks? Did they turn the ball over? Did they miss tackles? Did they get knocked off the LOS? Were they wearing snowboots at a track meet?

 

These are reasons teams lose high school football games most of the time.

 

I think it's unfair to question a team's effort and heart after losing a rivalry game to a far superior team. If there wasn't effort in this game, then it couldn't have been there before. Don't call them out now.

 

If a lot of the other things I mentioned are true, then question the coaching. But, having seen both teams play, the better team won. It tends to happen.

I thought CCH did an admirable job of pressuring Houliston today. I saw a team who simply lost their starting qb. The receivers were open. The passes came up short for the backup. I'm assuming Wagner would have connected on many of those passes and the outcome would have been much different. Certainly not a running clock. There is nothing I saw that was wrong at CCH. Those young kids will take their lumps now, but in the next couple years should hold their own against the Birds. Just think if the Birds lost Houliston, it would be a pretty evenly matched game, IMO.

Highlands will just keep getting better as the year progresses. If these two meet up again, even with a healthy CCH, it would probably be a closer game but still a Bluebird victory.

As is often the case Sandman nailed it. They simply are two to three levels below HHS in talent and depth right now.

The answer was given and it was given weeks ago. Injuries plain and simple!

 

Injuries to the QB, RB's, O-linemen and WR on the offense and two of the best "D" players are simply playing with their hearts and oh BTW, all are seniors except for the QB. So understand it's not only the injuries but the loss of on the field leadership and experience.

 

Plain and simple really, injuries and this team still has beaten the team it should beat like Boone, Dixie and Henderson County and it's only losses were to two teams that no one in NKy at least, or maybe in the entire Commonwealth would beat either.

 

So Guru you worry about your Boone County team, as without the injuries CovCath still might be 3-2 but I promise and most knowledgeable football fans would agree, the Moeller and HHS games would have been a lot closer and CovCath still might have lost but you wouldn't be questioning what is missing.

"What is missing...?" How about the starting QB, RB, leading WR, an OT, and various Defensive starters throughout the year.

 

This has absolutely zero to do with heart. This group stepped up @ the beginning of quarter #2 vs Dixie and sealed a win against what is turning out to be a pretty darn good team. They drove four hours down to the #6 ranked team (at the time) in 6A down @ Henderson and beat them 18-0.

 

This team has nothing BUT heart, grit and determination. Sorry folks- there's nothing wrong in Colonel land that can't and won't be fixed by the return of all those players.

 

Highlands has an uber talented group of young men right now- I'd suggest the Birds and the Rebels and Jags ets should worry more about what they have coming up next year and the years to come instead of manufacturing issues that aren't there. The Colonels of CCH will be more than fine.

I took it as an explanation to describe how both teams finished plays.

 

When the ball carrier for HHS was being "tackled" - it was the HHS player delivering the blow. When CCH broke through the line for a gain, they were driven to the ground. All the hitting was being done by HHS.
