Who says Ohio is better?

Recommended Posts

Just found this on the very famous rankings site Calpreps.com. I didn't realize they kept track of this sort of thing but they do, apparently.

In 2013, Ohio and KY have faced off 18 times vs. each other. KY's record in those 18 games: 9 wins vs. 9 losses.

They break down as follows

9 Wins

08/30 Beechwood (Fort Mitchell, KY) 20 Lima (OH) 14

08/30 Bishop Brossart (Alexandria, KY) 21 Middletown Christian (Franklin, OH) 6

09/06 Eminence (KY) 50 Riverview East Academy (Cincinnati, OH) 6

09/06 Scott (Covington, KY) 70 Aiken (Cincinnati, OH) 8

09/13 Dayton (KY) 33 New Miami (Hamilton, OH) 6

09/13 Dixie Heights (Edgewood, KY) 38 Turpin (Cincinnati, OH) 7

09/17 South Floyd (Hi Hat, KY) 36 Hillcrest (Cincinnati, OH) 0

09/20 Ashland Blazer [Paul G.] (Ashland, KY) 42 Ironton (OH) 20

09/20 Raceland (KY) 42 Dawson-Bryant (Coal Grove, OH) 33

9 Losses

08/30 Cincinnati Country Day (Cincinnati, OH) 32 Pendleton County (Falmouth, KY) 22

08/30 South Point (OH) 20 Fleming County (Flemingsburg, KY) 14

09/06 Ironton (OH) 35 Russell (KY) 14

09/06 New Richmond (OH) 48 Grant County (Dry Ridge, KY) 13

09/06 Sycamore (Cincinnati, OH) 28 Ryle (Union, KY) 0

09/07 Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH) 45 Covington Catholic (Park Hills, KY) 7

09/13 Colerain (Cincinnati, OH) 42 Trinity (Louisville, KY) 28

09/13 South Point (OH) 23 Boyd County (Ashland, KY) 19

09/20 Archbishop Moeller (Cincinnati, OH) 24 St. Xavier (Louisville, KY) 12

This is a very broad spectrum of games and shows that the deeper you go into smaller schools, the closer KY and OH are in terms of competition. I still believe that the larger schools in Ohio, on average, are better than the largest schools in KY but when looking at this finite sample, it shows that the states are not that far apart.

Just thought I'd pass some good news along on this Tuesday.

Belfry vs. Gallia Academy

Johnson Central vs. Ironton

Dayton vs. Fayetteville, OH

Can't speak for Dayton vs. Fayetteville...but I see KY picking up a couple more wins against pretty quality Buckeye Programs this week

..............

Outside of Ironton, look at those programs that lost games from Ohio. Yowza...

About the same can be said on the programs that lost games from KY. There are good teams on both sides of the ledger in both categories.

I agree with CardinalsFan. I think Ohio overall is better on the big schools and it evens out the smaller the schools are.

Funny thing about scheduling. Good teams don't always seek out other good teams to play. But miserable teams ALWAYS seek out there miserable brethern to play. :D

My first thought was that the really good Ohio teams, the playoff caliber teams in each class, are very good at scheduling because they have to be. Those teams don't lose very many games to KY schools. They know who to schedule and they are always looking for a "Harbin Cow" and calculating their risks.

Belfry vs. Gallia Academy(AVERAGE AT BEST)

Johnson Central vs. Ironton(NOT GOOD)

Dayton vs. Fayetteville, OH(REALLY NOT GOOD)

I know very little about Gallia Acad and nothing about Fayetteville, but you don't agree that Ironton is a quality "program" as ATL put it?

They are in a down cycle, especially by their standards, and this year's team may be down, but their program has been very good for a long time.
