  1. I guess Chauncey Billups shouldn't have said "There's no comparison between Lebron and Wade of last year. Wade was on another planet." He said this before game 5 when someone asked about LEbron's performances in games 3 and 4 if they compared to Wade. Looks like Lebron made Chauncey look like a fool. LBJ was an absolute man last night. He stepped up and showed he can take over a game if he wants to. 25 straight points is unreal.
  2. Back I think in the mid to late 80's, Holmes had visitor stands where the current "Holmes wall" is but tore them out when they re-did the track. Plus Not many schools bring a big fan base on the road to Holmes. One thing's for sure, back in 2000-2001 when Englemon and James "Meechi" Jackson were there, Holmes games would be packed and Tom Ellis Stadium would be rocking.
  3. Holmes was supposed to get field turf a few years back when Mike Farley was the coach and they were going to split the cost with HC but the HC athletic boosters didn't want to pony up their side of the money. I agree if Holmes were to get turf though, it would create a lot of excitement and get more talent out there. Kids love playing on the turf.
  4. OJ, on the court is no where near Lebron. Had LEbron played one year of college ball, that team would have won the national championship hands down. OJ is still maturing and makes high school mistakes that we ddin't see Lebron make as a senior.
  5. I have to give the nod to Ryle in this. Pitching wins games and I just feel they will have more depth and experience on the mound tonight. But then again I could be wrong. CCH has a very fine program and seems to always find a way to win. One thing's for sure, this will be the best match up in the state in a regional final and IMO two of the most classiest programs, coaches and players. Good luck to all of the seniors tonight.
  6. One of the biggest problems at Holmes is that unless you are taking an A.P or I.B class, your teachers aren't as close to you. Most schools require all of their students to take A.P level courses. There are no regular or general classes.
  7. Also a player that should be considered is Bellevue's Caitlin Haynes (sp?). I know she is going to be a senior this year and is already tied for the school 3 point record and will be a 3 yr varsity letterman I believe,
  8. Probably the most educated post I've seen so far on this topic. Hats off to you Rockmom. :thumb:
  9. Hopkins wins their second straight national title. I was actually pulling for Duke though. When do you all think we'll see Lacross as a regular sport within the high school level? I know there are some KY and OH teams already fielding teams but it is mainly in the private or "upper class" schools who are doing it.
  10. He was allowed to come back and pitch the very next day. Technically it's the same kid pitching but since he's not throwing with the same arm, officials allowed it. It just all depended on how many innings he threw with each arm which would be calculated by how many outs he got and batters faced by our coach. Our coach never over threw him. When we were in Florida for nationals one year in Kissimmee a team tried to protest because he pitched back to back games and won both but since he threw right handed the whole game one game and left the next, there was nothing they could do about it.
  11. Congrats to Dixie on the win and Nichols for ptiching a gem of a game. Ryle/Beechwood should be a good game with Elliot on the mound but I see Ryle winning this one again in similar fashion as game 1. Who threw for the Raiders against Ludlow?
  12. Did Morgan county miss the 2 point conversion for the win? lol
  13. Great Post!! It's the few bad seeds that give Holmes their bad rep. What some don't realize is Holmes has some of the best academics in the state (only school with the I.B program), has the best vocational program in the state, and one of the best MJROTC programs in the state as well. Holmes is actually thinking about going from an 8-12 school to a 10-12. The administrators and board of education think one of the main reasons for Holmes having many students with bad character is because the younger kids come in to high school as 8th graders and just aren't mature enough yet to handle a school of that size.
  14. Thanks for the previous post before this one. It really cleared up a lot and showed where you truly stand so I apologize. But you want my assessment on the other seniors and the situation, well here it is: Duran has pretty much been kept under someone's wing his whole life and had someone there to tell him "No Duran you can't do this or that" which is why you never heard of him getting in trouble off the court before this. His parents have always been very strict on him especially his mother. In school though he'd get away with little things simply because he was "Duran Jefferson-star athlete." I personally know both his mother and father and know they wouldn't stand for Duran ever doing something to this degree. teachers knew to call his mother if he was doing something truly irresponsible that would affect him in harsh ways. Now, why Coach Marshall was showing Duran his gun collection? I don't think that was the case. Marshall was very involved with the basketball program both on and off the court especially with Lexie Brown and Ryan Mitchell. He took Mitchell in and treated him as if it were his own son which is why Mitchell has actually excelled in life so far. Duran knew Marshall had a gun collection in his house simply because he had been over there a few times with other teammates, such as Mitchell and Lexie. Why Duran would break in to his gun collection? I honestly have no idea. His cousin, who will be convicted with him has always been in trouble and I think with Duran turning 18 and not being able to handle the freedom he finally had away from his parents, it all caught up to him. Duran just really isn't that mature. Since he's been babied (sp?) his whole life, this just goes to show he couldn't handle being a young 18 yr old adult and handle the freedom that comes with it. Do I think Duran is a good kid though? Absolutely. He has taken A.P and I'B courses which some of you don;t know since his sophomore year and is actually very smart, but the crowd he was hanging around (his cousin, whom he just started hanging around every day a couple months ago), finally nipped him in the bud and caught up to him. But as far as this being a life lesson for him, I totally agree and think this will make him a better person. Duran has never had to face a punishment like this and I can guarantee you his family, and their disappointment will open his eyes and make him realize what a dumb mistake he's made. As far as the other seniors, Austin will probably be the most successful but simply because his mother and aunt Celeste keep him on a short leash as well as the rest of his family. Kejuan Arnold, another senior basketball player will also be attending college, is a honor student and has never been in any trouble throughout his high school career. Now on to the big one, Greg Rice. Rice faced some troubles his junior year as we all know, but if this past year hasn't showed you that he truly is on the right track then I don't know what he has to do to prove it. Rice is also going to college on a scholarship for basketball and just from talking to him and seeing the way he carries himself both on and off the court, you can tell he really has changed. He led by example this past year as did Austin. Sorry I kept rambling but this pretty much sums up everything.
  15. Exactly. Sad thing about it is, the girl who was driving them around is an A.P/I.B student at Holmes. (A.P- Advanced placement I.B- International Baccaleuriate)
  16. I always liked playing there and being able to actually walk down the steps and in to the stadium. And up until around week 7, the grass looks great and isn;t a bald spot on the field.
  17. This is true. The original plan was to purchase all of the houses around the church across the street from the school and build the field there but it would have been a conflict with the lights and parking being in the middle of a neighborhood. Building the new stadium down at Rosedale IMO is a bad idea though. When the river comes up, HC will have lots of problems with flooding and they are going to have to tear up that whole field of grass and replant Bermuda if they want it to be a nice playing surface. Also, getting there is a hike and there would be a lot of traffic unless as you stated the trailer park is purchased to build a new road.
  18. Here's my assessment on the top fields: Best grass fields/complexes: Good: Ryle- As far as grass fields come, this one is the nicest complex. Plenty of parking, great food, ample seating, and the sound/lighting/atmosphere are always great here. Holmes/HC- probably one of the most unique fields to play at as you actually walk down in to the stadium both players and fans. Scoreboard is in a nice place on the field house where everyone can see it even if you're driving by on Eastern Ave, and the playing surface is always one of the best IMO which is why teams like NCC were using it 2 years ago for their home playoff games. Fair: Scott, Ludlow, Lloyd Bad: Boone, Conner (grass is always 2 feet high and watered down), Sk (just a hard playing surface and no grass in middle of field) Campbell Co (just a horrible playing surface but atmosphere is good), Dayton, Bellevue Turf fields: Highlands: when it comes to playing on turf, Highlands has the best atmosphere around. Dixie: probably the nicest complex in nky but parking is only downfall Beechwood: nice place to play but the stands are too small CCH- nice field but atmosphere just isn;t the same since the games are on sat Newport/NCC: right behind Dixie with all the new upgrades OVERALL: Best complex: Dixie Best place for atmosphere: Highlands Best stadium with grass: Ryle and Holmes
  19. Noah will go somewhere around 10 and as cshs said most likely be more of a role player than anything.
  20. He didn't rob someone twice. The other incident wasn't a robbery and he didn't get charged for anything. It was all pure speculation with the first case. I've done a lot of research today and found out some specifics from witnesses and close sources. One of the people who will be charged with him is his cousin who has been in and out of jail/juvenile the last few years and the other was a member of the Holmes football team this past year as a senior.
  21. If you throw a pitch to right hand batter as a right hand pitcher you can't switch arms, but after a better you can if I'm not mistaken. When I played AABC we had a pitcher who could pitch and hit both left and right handed and would switch every batter depending on the cicumstances.
  22. Wow unless you know any of the Bulldog seniors pesonally, Jefferson included, I think you need to re think what you're saying. We all know Duran made a dumb mistake and most likely threw away his future, but to say the regional championship game was a life changing game and they NEEDED to win that game in order to have a successful future is an overstatement. And out of the 4 seniors that Holmes had this year, Jefferson is the only one not going to college. All three of the others are, so don't classify all in the same group with Duran. Don't think I'm trying to back him up cuz I certainly am not. I just feel unless you know specifics and have inside sources about him and his family you have no right to pass judgement. We all know Duran needs to grow up and making comments like you knew he'd never amount to anything is flat out disrespectful to not only him but also his parents who actually kept a close eye on him and did all they could to raise him properly, but parents can only do so much and once a kid turns 18 and becomes an adult they no longer have the same power that they once did. He just couldn't handle the freedom and fell in with wrong crowd on the wrong day, plain and simple.
  23. Very good assessment. But of course you're going to be a HOMER and pick your Raiders to win it all. Ryle does seem to have the easiest road to the finals though and they are playing very well right now. I wouldn't mind seeing both them and the Lady Raiders go to state this year.
  24. Both Weaver and Webb are very aggressive. If they can play the way they did this year I wouldn't be surprised to see Holmes back in the regional finals. But then again there are a few other really good teams returning kep players lik NDA and Boone who seem to reload every year.
