Hester and Hurd a package deal ...

Simon Kenton senior basketball players Josh Hurd and Michael Hester on Friday will sign with Union College, according to Pioneers coach Trent Steiner.

Hurd, a 6-foot-8 center, was the Eighth Region player of the year. He averaged 14.7 points, six rebounds and four blocks a game. He also shot 73 percent from the floor. Hester, a 5-11 guard, averaged 10 points, three assists and three rebounds a game. He also shot 33 percent from 3-point range. Both players were Enquirer first team all-stars.

They will sign at 10:30 a.m. today in the Simon Kenton auditorium.

Union is an NAIA school located in Barbourville. It is a member of the Mid-South Conference.

Congrats to both players, their services will be missed in Independence. I think Hurd has some nice upside, he really improved over the past few seasons, I think he will do fine at Union. I hope to get some updates from NWO next season, we WILL have a Union Sticky at the top of the page, I demand this.

Congrats to both young men but especially Hester. I've known him since he was playing ball at Glenn O. Swing in elementary school and it was always fun seeing him play. Might have to take a trip down to Barbourville next year.

Congrats Mike. Dont't know Hurd but best of luck to him to.

I was wondering where these two were going to go. I got to know these kids alot over the past couple years with summer ball and they are good kids who will do good on the next level.

Just for everyone's info The Bulldogs are scheduled to open the regular season at home against Alice Lloyd on November 6.
