Super day to watch a game and with all of the chatter from the first game, it was a must see game. Here's some comments from the Raider sideline:

1) Two of the best teams in NKY at this point in the season hooked up.

2) Umps were very consistent and good.

3) Fans were equally supportive of their own teams without being nasty in any way or unsportsmanlike towards the opponent. Just a few normal chides to the umps from the affected side on the few questionable calls that happen every game.

4) Highlands first pitcher (#9) could bring it. Ryle hammered him pretty good the second time around the lineup and I think scored all 9 runs off of him. The Birds relief pitcher (#14) was much more effective today. Ryle got better relief pitching than starting pitching, too. Not sure of all names but #17, #20 and #4 pitched for Ryle. The lefty at the end had some good movement on his fastball.

5) Both teams hit some seeds and probably each had 10-12 hits.

6) Raiders were up 9-3 after 3 and the Birds kept "chirping" away to close within 9-8 after the top of the 6th. Insurance run in the bottom of the 6th was big for Ryle.

7) Didn't mind spending $4 to see a great baseball game on a perfect day.

 

Congrats to both teams and staffs. Seemed like quality young men in action playing their hind ends off to win.

Great game by both teams tonight. While both teams had 12 hits each, Ryle's hits came when they counted. I'm sure Diamond Dandy will fill you in on Ryle's hits tonight, but for Highlands: Ader 2-4 (2)2B, Muench, 2-4 2B and 2 RBI's, Rawlings 3-4 2B and 3RBI's. Highlands has the next six days off due to having to cancel some games because we are only allowed to play 3 more. Next up for Highlands will be Ryle again next Tuesday at Highland Park and they finish up the regular season with Boone Co. and Cov Cath also next week. Next Tuesday night will be Highlands Senior Night. Please come out and congratulate the Seniors on a fine season.

What grades were the two Bird pitchers in? The starter looked older and brought good heat for sure.

Great post. Like I said earlier, Highlands isn't going to sneek up on anybody anymore. I like the way Coach Johnson thinks toward the end of the season, play the best teams you can going into the Districts, pretty much the way Coach Roesel thinks. Hats off to Highlands senior leadership and it looks like the Highlands Baseball Program is back on track. Ryle's program is fairly new as well but a few successful years help tremendously as seen by the success of Ryles' JV and Freshmen programs.

Well, 15 years new. They have had a few good teams like 1999 and maybe one or two before but now they are starting to string a few together.

Is the CCH game a definite? I know CCH has to drop about 6 games.

That would have to be the reason for scheduling more games than allowed.

I didn't see his name in the paper, but heard the second pitcher Highlands brought out pitched pretty well.
