  1. The 12th Region has rotated boys and girls between Lincoln County and Pulaski County for over a decade. Prior to that, there was a rotation of about a dozen schools that hosted. There are several in the region large enough to host, and occasionally Mercer County and McCreary Central make a little noise about wanting to bring back a rotation, but it seems like most of the schools are pretty content to keep it where it is, which is centrally located in the region. I'll add, there are three college gymnasiums in the region (Centre, Asbury, CU-Harrodsburg) but none have anything close to enough seats to host a region tournament.
  2. I streamed them through Fubo last year. It worked fine. My complaint with Fubo is they don't have TBS/TNT, so I've canceled it for the time being and subscribed to Hulu so I'll have access to March Madness on the Turner channels. I'll probably go back to Fubo afterwards if the Reds aren't picked up by any other services.
  3. First regional title for Magoffin County. Three previous times they had advanced to the final, losing to Johnson Central in 1984 and Paintsville in both 1995 and 1996.
  4. 1355 kids in the building per the 2023-24 data from the KHSAA, the largest in the 12th Region. East Jessamine has 1222 kids while Southwestern and Pulaski County are both hovering around 1200 kids. https://khsaa.org/reports/enrollments/20232024schoolenrollmenttotalsbyenroll.pdf
  5. I doubt it. One, NKU was the five-seed in their conference so they didn't have a great regular season. And two, the conference champions that lose in their tournament no longer have an assured NIT bid. I could see NKU winding up in the CIT down in Florida, an event for non-power 5 schools.
  6. I know you mentioned it as a rumor, but this seems very unlikely. Not sure why he would make that move.
  7. First trip to the region finals since 1968. The 1960s were the glory days for Seneca. After opening in the fall of 1958, Seneca made the region finals six times in eight years. The Redskins, as they were known at the time, won the region in 1961, 1963, 1964, and 1968 and lost in the finals in both 1962 and 1967. They'd also win state championships in 1963 and 1964.
  8. One of the most "how in the world did that happen" games in recent 12th Region tournament history. Mercer was so good and Southwestern so "blah," albeit a Warriors team that had upset both Boyle and Pulaski in the first two rounds.
  9. They did win it in 2016. Regions titles by year since realignment in 2006: 4 - Lincoln County (2007, 2008, 2019, 2022) 3 - Boyle County (2006, 2015, 2021) 3 - West Jessamine (2009, 2010, 2020) 3 - Wayne County (2011, 2013, 2014) 2 - Southwestern (2012, 2018) 2 - Pulaski County (2017, 2023) 1 - Mercer County (2016)
  10. Did the scare from Ryle light a fire in Newport that will propel them to the region title or did it expose an open door for a team like Lloyd to exploit and get the victory?
  11. NKU plays Milwaukee on Monday night at 9:30 in Indianapolis. Oakland plays Cleveland State in the other semifinal.
  12. This feels like the wrong approach and also a sad testament to what high school sports is becoming.
  13. Didn't former head coach Damon Kelley leave early in the school year to be the athletic director at a school in Lexington? I always assumed this was an interim position this season. West has long had a very solid program; I suspect there will be quite a bit of interest.
  14. Went to the region in both 2020 and 2021 (the '21 team beat Rockcastle in the first round before losing to Boyle). Prior to that, East hadn't been to region since 2014.
  15. First region tournament game victory for Cumberland County since 1990, coincidentally also a victory over Barren County. The Panthers lost to Bowling Green in the semifinals that season, 76-68.
  16. After twenty consecutive first round losses from 1990-2020, Southern has now won their opener in two of the last three 11th Region tournaments.
  17. I think his name will come up at Indiana if Mike Woodson doesn't make it.
  18. Drew is an interesting choice. I think he'd do a really good job. He's also been consistently mentioned as a replacement for Calipari if/when Cal decides to retire. If he went to Louisville, not only would he make the Cardinals better, he'd likely be altering the future plans of their biggest rival in the process.
  19. Holy Cross has only played in the region tournament three times, losing first round games to Southern in 1987, Fairdale in 2008, and Doss in 2015.
  20. Shaka has been very successful at schools without football and performed quite poorly at the one football school where he coached. Louisville is known for basketball but they have a very successful football program, a local coach, and a typically engaged fanbase. Could Shaka handle that?
  21. I do wonder if the NIL and transfer stuff gets regulated in some way (either by the NCAA or Washington) if that might open the door for a return to college by some guys who have moved on to the NBA and NFL. If I'm someone like Billy Donovan, who hasn't been in college in ten years, now isn't the time I want to return with so much uncertainty in the stuff surrounding college sports.
  22. I would think $10 for a two-game session is a pretty normal rate for region tournaments.
