  1. Planning on going to this one. I have a logistics question for Owensboro folks: what is the parking situation at the stadium? I'm taking my dad who is having some issues with his foot and I don't want him to have to walk too far. Is the parking relatively close or should I drop him off and then go find a spot?
  2. Impressive drive by Hart, capped by a short touchdown. Just under a minute left in the half. Hart 10-7.
  3. Impressed with Union’s strength and quickness. Wrestling program playing a role.
  4. This could challenge all "SEC bias" conspiracies. It is quite possible the Big 10 champ (Ohio State or Michigan) and the Pac-12 champ (Washington) will be undefeated. They would both make the playoffs. If a 1-loss Texas wins the Big 12, they'd have a road win over SEC champion Alabama so you have to think the Longhorns go to the playoffs. That would have to put Alabama in because they beat Georgia, but leave the Bulldogs at #5, right?
  5. Two teams that have made steady progress throughout the season. Early in the year there were "same old Station" threads on here and midseason there were threads about Ryle needing a new coach. Both teams have weathered their respective storms (even if it wasn't really that stormy) and are four quarters from a Thanksgiving practice. This could be one of the best games of the weekend, but I think Bryan Station has the slight advantage in a couple areas, plus playing at home. Give me the Defenders but its close.
  6. Agreed. Middlesboro is solid but I'm not sure they are as good as they've been the last couple seasons. I don't think its a running clock but I'd pick Pikeville by three touchdowns.
  7. I'm in line with both of you. I think Boyle is capable of winning the game by multiple scores, whereas I believe a Corbin win would likely be within seven points. In all likelihood I think it will be nip-and-tuck for three quarters before Boyle hits a couple big plays in the fourth quarter to put it out of reach.
  8. That was a perfect storm game for attendance with a high quality Boyle team and a best-in-school-history Allen County team playing just twenty minutes up the road. It gets forgotten in all the Boyle titles but that was a good football game.
  9. 1979 was the next to last year at Atherton for Dan Goble, really the last coach to have any success there before Anthony White. Goble was at Atherton from 1972-80 and posted a 47-48-2 record before leaving for Christian County. Atherton didn't have a winning season after Goble until 2021 (although they did finish .500 a couple of times). This season is their best since also finishing 9-1 in 1973, although a regular season loss to Central kept them out of the playoffs that season.
  10. They're 3-4 all-time against Covington Catholic in the playoffs. Their record against Highlands (0-4) isn't quite a good.
  11. I'm going to Union County at Hart County because I've been to games at those other three places, but if forced to choose I'd say Corbin/Boyle just because it is a game everyone has been wishing to see all season.
  12. I noticed they also released a collection of all the historical segments in one podcast. It's about an hour and a half long. I've listened to the first 30~ minutes and it is wonderful. Highly recommend, especially if you like high school football history.
  13. If everything played out like we mentioned in the previous post, yes. The Raceland/Sayre winner needs two of Country Day, Campbellsville, and Pikeville to lose this week in order to get a home game in the semifinals. That seems like a stretch.
  14. Ludlow has the lowest RPI of any team remaining in Class 1A so a Ludlow victory would still mean a semifinal road trip. If the other favorites won, it would be at Campbellsville.
  15. If Southwestern beats Cooper (and Highlands, Bowling Green, and Owensboro all win), Owensboro would go to Highlands and Southwestern would go to Bowling Green. A Cooper win (and the other three favorites also winning) would send Cooper to Highlands and Owensboro to Bowling Green.
  16. I think Campbellsville wins, especially at home, but that margin does seem a little wide.
  17. Does anyone remember Dixie Heights putting 100 on Newport in 1969? Dixie threw for a touchdown to get their final score in the 4th quarter.
  18. Twice. Lost to Beechwood in 2017 and Pikeville last season.
  19. I've seen Fairdale twice. They have a solid club. Good speed and talent. Not huge across the line. Quarterback is no real threat to throw. I think they can compete for a bit but I suspect this is a running clock in the second half.
  20. If you had asked me last week I'd have said Raceland in a rout, but seeing Sayre dismantle Paris makes me believe the Spartans are better than most think, even if they are undefeated. I still believe Raceland wins by a couple of scores, but it will be an interesting litmus test for where exactly Sayre is in the Class 1A pecking order.
  21. I tend to agree with you on the score. However, comparing the two games might not be the best approach. Corbin/Douglass was earlier in the season and the Redhounds roster was just rounding into shape. Boyle/Douglass was the last game of the season when all the pieces were in place.
  22. One of the most noticeable problems at Newport Central Catholic is their continually declining enrollment. I'm sure that can be blamed on changing demographics, etc. But in the glory days they were always a solid AA school, then still a decent sized 2A school once the state went to six classes. Now they are among the smallest football playing schools in Kentucky. In 2022-23 they had 108 boys, tied with Caverna for 6th fewest and larger than only Phelps, Fulton County, Jenkins, Harlan, and Pineville. Eventually football is a numbers game and it is hard to maintain success without numbers.
  23. They’ve been playing at a high level for about 70 years so I’m not sure that’s issue. However, they aren’t as talented this season as the past few years and Franklin County is very much the real deal. I suspect the Flyers take care of business without much trouble this week.
