I wonder if his leaving will affect the drawing power of Ironton football as it pertains to kids from surrounding schools in Lawrence County moving into the Ironton system?

I still think four is too many for the number of high schools in Kentucky. I say go down to three classes.

Once again, here is the criteria... * All level of play - 9th 10th 11th 12th - not sure about Rockcastle's lower levels and I know Russell's coaches aren't concerned about W's & L's but merely view them as a development tool for the varsity program. * Fan Support - Russell definitely has this in spades... * Coaches - Ummm...no contest here, Ivan's teams will be playing on Ivan McGlone Field next year after leading the Devils to their second state title and 500th all-time win (of which he has over 250) * Wins - 500 all-time * Titles - Russell - 2 Rockcastle - 0 * Facilities - Henry R. Evans Stadium's listed capacity of 5,000 is an estimation that was made for the KHSAA publication. I think this is really a no-brainer, but then I am a little biased...

I have seen a handful of kids go through this type of repair, but it does seem to be gaining in frequency. Much of it probably has to do with coaches improperly using a kid on the way up through Little League, Babe Ruth, etc. Kids are being taught breaking balls too early, pitchers many times playing a position such as shortstop or catcher that requires multiple throws the day after a start. I have also known kids who have been playing in two different leagues at the same time and the two coaches doing their own thing with the players without regard for what he already did for his other team. These are the types of things that cause kids to shred their arms. In a recent survey of major league pitchers (guys like Curt Schilling, etc.) the average age that the players said they would allow their kids to start throwing breaking balls was around 14. How many kids out there do you know of that have started way before that????

If that's the case, then why do schools, Boyd included, hang banners listing district and regional titles??? As I said before, if anybody else in the region could have gotten the job done, then they would have been playing in Rupp. By the way, I forgot...exactly how many points did defending state champ (and favorite to repeat) score against that Graves County bunch anyway??? And how many did (insert name of the 16th region team not named Russell you support) score in the Sweet Sixteen this year??? If your team didn't take the floor at Rupp this season, you have no room to talk...PERIOD. As for Owens being spotlighted somewhere (which to me means at least D1 mid-major), I'll believe that when I see it...

It depends on who's back and who isn't and what the players do in the offseason to improve, and that goes for every team. Personally, I hope to see Russell back much improved and with a new attitude next season. Sometimes, getting a 34 year old monkey off your back has a way of elevating your play the next season. As for the team's performance at Rupp, I believe the same Graves County team that held Russell to 27 held the defending state champs to 33 points in regulation. I'd say it was a pretty good defensive team that the Devils were matched up against. As for the Patterson kid, this seems like a scenario much like the OJ/Bill fiasco that played out previously. I can't believe any team in the area would want to go through that again and I'm sure the KHSAA would have something to say about it.

I don't see Ashland being that good next year. What makes you think they will be better than this season??? Looks like Russell followed by Elliott and then Rose Hill, look for Morgan to be strong again even though they lose McCowan.

I know he interviewed for it the last time around when he was still at Russell.

So far this year it includes academics, football, girls soccer, volleyball, boys and girls basketball...not much left for the Tomcats is there...:thumb:

I will say that Jim really seemed much more in control of his temper and emotions at the end of this season compared to the past. Whatever he did, I think it helped and his sideline behavoir was much improved. His coaching this year was far better than his first few at GC, at least IMO, whatever that's worth...

I will add she made the Jumbotron at Rupp during one Fan Cam moment...looked right at home...

I saw her down at the state tournament yesterday rooting for the Red Devils with some of her friends from Russell. She is a fine player and seems to be an even better person from what little I have been around her.
