oldrambler Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Congrats to Raceland's Whitney seals on being seleted on the 16th region girls all tournament team. Seals is a great young talent with a very promising future.
Tubby's Best Friend Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 Great young lady! Congrats Whitney! I agree!!! Glad she will be back next season along with all of her teammates for the Lady Rams. I believe she has an excellent shot to become the schools all-time leading scorer next season. I can't wait for next season to roll around!!!!
Rickyp Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I don't know her but I do her parents and they are good people. I have seen her play and she is very talented.
goherd96 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I saw her down at the state tournament yesterday rooting for the Red Devils with some of her friends from Russell. She is a fine player and seems to be an even better person from what little I have been around her.
goherd96 Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I will add she made the Jumbotron at Rupp during one Fan Cam moment...looked right at home...
Himmelfarb Posted March 16, 2006 Posted March 16, 2006 I was pleased to give her name to Morehead's Coach Mitchell and told him last year that in my opinion she was one of the most overlooked and underrated players in the region...which may no longer be the case...and that she could play for him. One of those you hate to play against, but would love to have on your team.
Tubby's Best Friend Posted March 17, 2006 Posted March 17, 2006 I will add she made the Jumbotron at Rupp during one Fan Cam moment...looked right at home... She should. She certainly has the athletic ability to play for the Wildcats or Lady Cats of Kentucky. :thumb: If the KHSAA would enforce Title IX and play the State Tourney in Rupp like the boys maybe she would get that opportunity to play there next season with Raceland!!! :thumb:
oldrambler Posted March 18, 2006 Author Posted March 18, 2006 I agree TBF, that would be great and I also believe that she can play D-1 basketball, she is very talented. Go Lady Rams - with everyone coming back from a well talented team you just might make a run.
scooterbob Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Why would Title IX require that the tournament be played in Rupp Arena?
marooncat Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 For the same reason that we have prime time games for the girls on Friday night. I think that it would be great for the girls to play in Rupp like the boys do Lexington would be the best place to have the tournament .
scooterbob Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Marooncat, to quote your AD, you are mixing apples and oranges. The prime time games (Friday and Saturday) are required to give the girls a more equal chance at exposure. Without such a requirement, the girls would be completely stuck in the Monday and Thursday time slots which bring small crowds, little coverage, and no interest. Although a more central location would be better for many, particularly those of us in Eastern Kentucky, both Rupp Arena and Diddle Arena are fine facilities. At each facility, there is plenty of seating for all who wish to attend. Both tournaments are played on the same schedule- just a week apart. Both are bankrolled by sponsors, well planned, well publicized, and given the "limelight" statewide during the event. Both receive the same reimbursement of expenses for the participants. The main difference is that one is in Lexington and one is in Bowling Green. Actually, there are advantages and disadvantages at either location. However, none of this indicates any Title IX issue. There is none.
Butterfly Baby Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 I would like to see the girls state tourney in Rupp once. Just to see what it would be like. Might be alot better crowds in my opinion.
Ram Land Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 Crowds would have to double from typical girls state tournament or they would be swallowed up by cavernous Rupp. Sometimes a smaller venue is better. Memorioal Colliseum would be a better fit than Rupp, but that would definitely give the appearance of treating the girls second class. The only negative that I've experienced with Bowling Green is the five hour drive! The same complaint that our friends on the western end have about Lexington!
royalblue Posted March 19, 2006 Posted March 19, 2006 What about the rumor that Whitney will be wearing maroon and gold next season?
