The latest football class rumor is...

Featured Replies

5 classes with at least Highlands playing up (or you could say playing in whatever class CCH is playing in).

I hear nothing is in stone but this format is the favorite.

Anyone?

It sure beats six classes, but I still think four is plenty.

I still think four is too many for the number of high schools in Kentucky. I say go down to three classes.

Does a format exist in which the schools would be divided?

I assume Highlands would be in 5A then if they played up, that is just assuming as well that Covington Catholic would be 5A because they were 5A in the 6 six class proposal and HHS was 4A, or would HHS be 3A and CCHS be 4A?

The way I understand it (which could be entirely wrong) is that if we go to 5 classes (based on only the boys enrollments, which is what I understand the KHSAA is thinking about doing with football and they will divide the number of schools evenly or as close thereto as they can per class) CovCath will be 4A and Highlands will be 3A. If they go to 6 classes, both would be in 4A.

Lest anyone think from reading the Ru's post that the KHSAA is considering the option of moving up solely for Highlands benefit ( and Ru I'm sure that's not what you intended by your post right?), nothing could be further than the truth. My guess is that there's still not a lot of love for Highlands at the KHSAA quite yet:banana: And I doubt (although I could be wrong) that anyone at Highlands has even thought much about the issue quite yet or even discussed the issue with the KHSAA. Although I agree with Ru that if moving up meant continuing to be able to be in the same class as CovCath, Highlands would seriously consider it.

Rather, the option of playing up is supposedly being looked at because in some cases, whether the KHSAA goes with 5 or 6 classes, there will be multiple instances where schools have no other school even close to them in the assigned class, but may have schools close to them in the next larger class and it may makes sense to allow that option if the school thinks it is best for them. Given the cost of fuel and other transportation costs further hurting already financially strapped school systems, it makes sense to at least look at the issue I guess.

The proposed 6A alignment had CCHS at 5A and HHS at 4A. While that was not official I though that was the basis of what it would look like.

What would a proposed 5A alignment look like?

So if a school is small, but they are good, they are forced to play up. This is getting better by the second. What a joke.

Are they looking to divide the classes evenly or would 5A be just the "big boys"?

I don't think that is what Guru is suggesting. It's common knowledge that Highlands might prefer to play up if they were reclassified away from some of their traditional northern rivals, especially CovCath.

I would think it would be divided by enrollement numbers, the Super Class only exists on BGP.

I was under the impression that Highlands was already on the lower end of AAA # wise, so increasing the # of classes would likely drop them to AA I believe.

It would have the opposite effect, the more classes you add, the higher class they would be in.

RunFirst, as WestSider pointed out, no one would be forced to play up. It could (and at this point who knows if it will happen) only be an option available to the schools to help them with transportation, fuel costs, needing to leave school early and get back late at night because of the long travels for district games and other related problems due to adding more classes. If my prior post caused any confusion, sorry about that.
