The latest football class rumor is...

CoachJ Can you break down the projected districts and regions for the rest of the classes?

Can't be my first priority right now (I already had the stuff on overall and 1A, since that directly affects our program), but when I get a spare second (hah!) I'll try to get a best guess on here.

St. X averages over 1,500 students over the last two years?

Wasn't it the early 90's the last time St. X had 1,500 students?

No idea how exactly the KHSAA arrived at this number, but remember, they used AVERAGE ENROLLMENTS over periods of 2 or 4 years.

I'm not disputing that; you're right, that would make THAT district a good, solid Northern Ky. district...but, you've got to consider the OVERALL BALANCE of the state's regions/districts in each class.

Making a good, solid NKy. class out of the teams in 1A, would cause there to be a district with SEVEN teams (including Trimble and Gallatin along with the L'ville area 1A schools) and a district with FOUR (the Northeastern 1A schools).

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that it's going to be a goal of the new realignment to get ALL DISTRICTS as even as possible (with no fewer than 5 and no more than 6 in each), THEN to try to get them geographically as close as they can.

To do that, SOMEBODY from NKy. would have to go east...which means you'd have to move one or two from outside NKy into Nky to give it more than 4.

** But again, I'm NO AUTHORITY on this stuff... I could be totally wrong about what the KHSAA says they'll favor. Might be keeping the districts even, might not (but I know they've gotten a lot of negative feedback about some districts having only FOUR teams while others have as many as EIGHT).

Sorry, I must be thick. I count five on my list. Add Gallatin which is closer to NKY then Trimble, and we would then have 6 schools who don't have to travel very far. Why does a team that is geographically close to other like sized schools HAVE to travel when the FIVE I spoke of would best benefit from playing each other. Gallatin too for that matter. I understand that some schools have to travel because their is not enough like sized schools close by. But to make a team travel 1 1/2 to 2 hours so that another team, an hour or more away can play teams right next door to where they departed from, well that doesn't make much sense to me.

Gallatin is much more NEKY IMO than BB, they could fill that spot in the districts and it would make much more sense to me than BB.

Trimble could then join the Louisville district to make that 6 teams.

I by no means want this to get argumentative -- remember, I have NO dog in this fight; but, in the spirit of being willing to discuss possibilities until the best solution is found...

Again, you're RIGHT...but you still end up with only FOUR teams in the NorthEAST Ky district (again, something I think they're going to try to avoid at all costs due to the complaining from people that a team could get in the playoffs with 0 wins).

Can you come up with a way to have at least 5 and no more than 6 in a "Northern Ky" district AND have at least 5 in the NorthEAST Ky. district?

Here's a link to the Ky. county map I used to compare travel distances:

http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/maps/kentucky_map.html

Gallatin is much more NEKY IMO than BB,

 Do you mean CULTURALLY? In order of closeness to NEKy, it's Campbell, Kenton, Boone, then GALLATIN.

You've got a point here; Trimble's travel to the farthest L'ville district team from them (Bardstown Beth.) would not be as far as any of the NKy teams would have to travel to get to NEKy.

...BUT, you'd still end up with only FOUR teams in the NEKy district.

I THINK THIS WOULD BE THE BEST SOLUTION: Keep Gallatin and Trimble with the other 4 Nky teams to form a six-team district, all close together; then have PARIS join the district that has Nicholas Co., Raceland, Fairview, and Paintsville. (OR, convince Robertson Co. or Elliott Co. to start a team!)

What about Bracken County, they would still be 1A I think.

A pipe dream. No team with eyes on a state title is going to volunteer to play up and in the same class as Trinity and St. Xavier.
You might be surprised.

I agree BF. I can see a coach or two, knowing they have a good crop of players, deciding to "shoot the moon" and try to grab the gold at a higher level.

I think that maybe the Birds have enough kahona's to try and move all the way up. Other than that, I don't see it. I also think that after 4 years they will petition to go back down.

Now as far as the Birds moving up one class...... I deffinetly see that happening, and would love it.:p

I can see that too. BUT, a coach would have to feel good about having FOUR YEARS of a "good crop of players" (hopefully, the KHSAA would require them to make a pretty good long-term commitment; if not, that means re-aligning districts every TWO years...something I don't think they'd be crazy about doing).

I can see most of the top programs out there in current 1A and 2A being competitive one class above them, but it would be tough (not a "pipe dream," but tough) for a current 3A team to win a STATE TITLE in 4A.

Not saying the best 3A team wouldn't be good enough to beat the best 4A team in any given year, but remember, it's a 5-week playoff to win the ring. That means they'd likely have to play 5 games in a row, in back-to-back weeks against teams that AT LEAST DOUBLE THEM in enrollment. That means the team "playing up" would likely have numerous guys going BOTH WAYS and their opponents five weeks in a row would be two-platooning for the most part.

There's a pretty good reason X and T don't seem to "wear down" as badly by the 15th week of the season AND why one or two injuries to key players don't hurt them as critically as others. (By NO means being critical of them for having great numbers -- I actually APPLAUD their approach.)

There are exceptions of course -- LexCath pretty much platoons in 3A (can't think of any others though) and 4A Male is known for playing several players both ways (though NONE of their "guys in the trenches" do). But Highlands plays a lot 2-ways, as did Boyle in their best years, etc., etc.

That being said, back in the years Highlands had 7 or 8 D-1 players on the same team (96 and 97?) I'll bet they could've competed in the 4A tournament pretty well.

You might be surprised.
Highlands? I'll believe it when I see it. That goes for anyone else, for that matter.

Not guaranteeing anything; but you never know.

I kind of agree with you. But I would LOVE to see Highlands in the 5A class or whatever the highest class is. They dress like 85 players they will not be ran off the field from fatigue by Trinity and St. X like some teams do.

OK, here's the scoop. None of the three mentioned would be good candidates for an east bracket. But I must confess, my geography for Gallatin County prior to looking it up was slightly confused.

Not guaranteeing anything; but you never know.

I want to throw down the gauntley and say "leap if you feel froggy".....

Why wait for realignment of the classes?

Come on in boys, the waters fine.:D
