RunFirst, as WestSider pointed out, no one would be forced to play up. It could (and at this point who knows if it will happen) only be an option available to the schools to help them with transportation, fuel costs, needing to leave school early and get back late at night because of the long travels for district games and other related problems due to adding more classes. If my prior post caused any confusion, sorry about that.

OK. Thanks.

Anyone have any idea what the districts and/or classes would look like?

Alright, the post below is only a PROJECTION. It is for ENTERTAINMENT purposes only and to give people a BROAD idea as to what MIGHT happen (but almost assuredly WON'T, due to the numerous reasons I'll go into below).

It is admittedly going to be somewhat inaccurate for the following reasons:

* It is based on enrollment numbers that were used to classify teams for the PREVIOUS cycle (all I had access to from the KHSAA website)

** many schools have undoubtedly gotten significantly larger or smaller since these numbers were posted 2 years ago

** the enrollment numbers I was able to use were for TOTAL enrollment -- rumor has it that they'll use MALE ENROLLMENT only this time

* There are some schools that will be new schools playing football that I might have left out or put in the wrong class.

** I added Gallatin Co., Clinton Co., Bishop Brossart, and Jackson Co. and as 1-A schools based on other people's best guesses at their enrollment.

** I added Harlan Co. and estimated them at around the same enrollment as Clay Co. (total guess). I also took out Evarts, Cumberland, and Cawood.

** I left Harrodsburg in since nothing's official there yet.

* This is ASSUMING...

** that the KHSAA goes with FIVE classes as this thread alludes

** that they do NOT use arbitrary enrollment numbers as dividers

** or that they allow for a "SuperClass" consisting of the schools with very large enrollments

** that the KHSAA decides to split them up based on the formula of 'the same number of SCHOOLS in each class'

** with the additions and deletions mentioned above (and admittedly, some might be in error), the total number of schools I have playing football is 216.

** 216 does not divide evenly by FIVE -- it would allow for FOUR classes of 43 schools and ONE class of 44

** I have no way of knowing how the KHSAA would determine which of the five classes should have 44, but since it was only ONE, I made it be the MIDDLE class (3A).

* ...and would be PRIOR TO any team "moving up in class" (if that were even to be allowed).

I'll first post ALL FIVE CLASSES I was able to do based on the CURRENT enrollment numbers.

Then, on a separate post, I'll divide the teams in each class geographically to allow one to see what districts/regions MIGHT be possible IF they were to be split in the way I've got it.

Ranked SMALLEST TO LARGEST (by overall enrollment from the last 2-year average corrected numbers)...

Classes determined by dividing all 216 football-playing schools by FIVE...

I just love all these hard workers on BGP Thanx Coach J

Just from my sketchy knowledge that top class looks pretty fair to the schools.

I think the real power grouping is at the top end of 3A:

Highlands

Lawrence Co.

Pendleton Co.

Western Hills

Rockcastle Co.

W. Jessamine

Bourbon Co.

Fairdale

Boyle Co.

Bell Co.

Warren East

Knox Central

Bullitt East

Lex Cath

McCreary Central (enrollment: 869.5)

Sorry if I didnt highlight all the power teams (no slights intended)

I think this is the spot that will cause the most complaining, consternation, or create the most questions regarding options to play up (if that is allowed). I can just envision these guys having to submit a blind envelop stating whether they want to play up or not:D

Lots of variables here

That 2A group looks like the most interesting 'new" mix of teams.

Thanx again, Woody Jr

By GEOGRAPHY (assuming limit of no more than 6 and no fewer than 5 teams in each district).

I used the abbreviations on the left to allow me to more easily sort a spreadsheet into districts/regions. Can't say these are perfect, but they're as good as I could do with my limited Ky. geography knowledge and a Ky. county map.

* Abbreviations: fw=far west; w=west; l=louisville; lsw=louisville southwest; sc=south central; b=bluegrass; n=northern; ne=northeast; e=east; se=southeast

I missed Letcher Central on the list. Assuming it would be 4A. Maybe I overlooked it??

I would hope that Boyle, CCH, HHS, and LEx CAth come to the big dogs.

Good catch. The original list I was using from the KHSAA didn't have LCC on there.

I think you're right that they'd be somewhere in 4A. Again, have no idea what the KHSAA would do with determining WHICH class would have an "extra school" beyond 43.

I would say that Trimble and Bishop Brossart would be switched.

I would say that Trimble and Bishop Brossart would be switched.

Not sure where B.B. is exactly located, but that would be putting Trimble -- which is fairly close to L'ville in a district with teams in the Ashland area.

I assumed (probably mistakenly) that B.B. was to the East of Covington.

I would hope that Boyle, CCH, HHS, and LEx CAth come to the big dogs.

Are you suggesting that all these teams except CCHS, move up 2 classes?

Because all of them are 3A except CCHS which is 4A.

I assumed (probably mistakenly) that B.B. was to the East of Covington.

It is, but just by five or 10 miles.

I assumed (probably mistakenly) that B.B. was to the East of Covington.

Then wouldn't region 2 district 1 be a better choice?
