The latest football class rumor is...

I would hope that Boyle, CCH, HHS, and LEx CAth come to the big dogs.

I seriously doubt that if they moved up, that they would move all the way up, as you suggest. I can see them moving up to 4A and trying their luck there, but I would be shocked if they moved to 5A. For all the bravado that some people post, I don't see anybody volunteering to go up to 5A for competition sake. For geographical reasons, absolutely.

Because all of them are 3A except CCHS which is 4A.

I thought that thwey were 3a?

By GEOGRAPHY (assuming limit of no more than 6 and no fewer than 5 teams in each district).

I used the abbreviations on the left to allow me to more easily sort a spreadsheet into districts/regions. Can't say these are perfect, but they're as good as I could do with my limited Ky. geography knowledge and a Ky. county map.

* Abbreviations: fw=far west; w=west; l=louisville; lsw=louisville southwest; sc=south central; b=bluegrass; n=northern; ne=northeast; e=east; se=southeast

I would move Hazard into District 2, and move Berea in Reg 4, Dist 1. It would even up the teams in region 4 and region 2. I think if this happens it would be in 2007, so Evarts, Cumberland and Cawood, would still be around. I think Harlan County is opening in 2008.

I think he ment 4A in the 5A class. Yes Covington Catholic is 3A as of now.

A pipe dream. No team with eyes on a state title is going to volunteer to play up and in the same class as Trinity and St. Xavier.

I thought jackson Co was suppose to be 2A

Then wouldn't region 2 district 1 be a better choice?

If you mean for TRIMBLE, yes, possibly -- that would still give one district 5 and the other 6. Probably six of one, half-dozen of another...but I guess I thought it made more sense to put them in the district that would include a more traditional rival in other sports (Gallatin Co.) and NOT have to travel all the way down to Bardstown to play Bethlehem.

If you meant Bishop Brossart, I'd disagree...that would leave a district (the Northeastern one) with only 4 teams (in this grouping of schools, SOMEBODY from Nky had to 'go east'...I'm not sure if BB is the "right one" geographically, I guess I just thought since the others have already had football and have already been playing against one another, they should stay together).

Could be...again, I didn't have their enrollment numbers and I was basing my guess on someone else's previous guess on BGP that they would be 1A.

Do you know their 9-12 total enrollment?

Good point about "evening up" Regions 4 and 2...but I don't know if the KHSAA would favor doing that for the reason of evening up the districts over the extra amount of TRAVEL that would put on Berea since there's a closer district that could accomodate them and not go over having 6 teams.

Longest trip if Berea's in Region 2 would be to Frankfort (a trip of roughly 1 hr. 15 min for them); if moved to Region 4 it would be to HARLAN -- easily over 2 and a half hours.

Not sure about Evarts, Cumberland, and Cawood; I really felt pretty secure that they were going to be in Harlan Co. HS by the 07 season.

Not sure where B.B. is exactly located, but that would be putting Trimble -- which is fairly close to L'ville in a district with teams in the Ashland area.

I assumed (probably mistakenly) that B.B. was to the East of Covington.

BB is in the same county as Dayton and Bellevue. It is about 15 minutes away.

BB is much closer than Gallatin or Trimble. BB is considered to be in NKY and for geographical reasons would be the best choice of these three to be included.

That would make the district look like this....

BB

Ludlow

Bellevue

Dayton

Beechwood

Anyone in NKY would agree with this over any of the other two IMO.

That is true about Harlan, it would be a 2hr+ trip, but onething that about the schools in the Madison County area is they have been playing in the mt districts, or with districts that have mt teams. Madison Central plays in the district with North and South Laurel, and Madison Southern makes trips to Perry Central, and Letcher Central. With Hazard in district 7 it would be close to a two hr trip by bus for Pineville. Williamsburg and Lynn Camp pushing an 1hr and half. Hazard sits right about in the middle of both districts. I know it is a good two hrs from Phelps to Hazard, with them in the middle I would leave them right where they are at. Completely speaking it would be better with them in district 8, but of course that plays no factor in the decision.

CoachJ Can you break down the projected districts and regions for the rest of the classes?

I'm not disputing that; you're right, that would make THAT district a good, solid Northern Ky. district...but, you've got to consider the OVERALL BALANCE of the state's regions/districts in each class.

Making a good, solid NKy. class out of the teams in 1A, would cause there to be a district with SEVEN teams (including Trimble and Gallatin along with the L'ville area 1A schools) and a district with FOUR (the Northeastern 1A schools).

I'm pretty sure I remember seeing that it's going to be a goal of the new realignment to get ALL DISTRICTS as even as possible (with no fewer than 5 and no more than 6 in each), THEN to try to get them geographically as close as they can.

To do that, SOMEBODY from NKy. would have to go east...which means you'd have to move one or two from outside NKy into Nky to give it more than 4.

** But again, I'm NO AUTHORITY on this stuff... I could be totally wrong about what the KHSAA says they'll favor. Might be keeping the districts even, might not (but I know they've gotten a lot of negative feedback about some districts having only FOUR teams while others have as many as EIGHT).

Ranked SMALLEST TO LARGEST (by overall enrollment from the last 2-year average corrected numbers)...

Classes determined by dividing all 216 football-playing schools by FIVE...

Trinity

St. X (enrollment --doubled since single-sex: 3,078)

St. X averages over 1,500 students over the last two years?

Wasn't it the early 90's the last time St. X had 1,500 students?
