Ashland has a formation that all three backs can be apart of the running attack, but it hasn't utilized that much yet because of the inconsistant line play. Heck, with as many injuries as the Tomcats have had on the o-line this year you'll have less than stellar play from those guys just for the basic fact that there is a new unit playing every game. I believe that most, if not all, of the preseason line starters were dressed and ready to play tonight and that might have been the reason the line play was better this week. Now that's not to take anything away from the kids that played the first half of the season on the o-line. They've gained very vaulable playing experience that will be a huge asset in the future, if not this year then next for sure.

I don't think so. The o-line did play better tonight but I don't think they are ready pin their ears back and just plow over opposing teams. Plus, totally changing offensive schemes this late in the season wouldn't help the offense IMO.

Keep it rolling T-Cats!!!! Good luck to Boyd the rest of the season. Ashland ran primarily out of the I tonight with Alber at full back Thomas at tail back and Royalty at QB. Carter and Mcleod both saw action in the backfield too.

Actually the KHSAA gives both a regular season and a playoff District Championship trophy since the new playoff format went in to effect last season.

Well I guess that the fact that Jim Matney was at the helm in '04 of a pretty good 4A Johnson Central team means nothing? He and the Golden Eagles have played the "Big" boys. 7-3 was the record that year and 3-3 against big-school teams" of North, South Laurel and Madison Central and others. Point is they've been there done that and had success. True, they missed the playoffs that year, but to say a quality Divison V school in Ohio is no test to a 5A school in Kentucky and that JC hasn't played with the big boys is uninformed at best.

Remeber that JC was a 4A team 3 seasons ago.....

What about Fall Baseball??? I just don't see it. His reputation is to hoard players. Now that may disputed, and I hope it is, but ANY stipulation that a player can't play another sport in High School is a gross injustice to the kid and the program as a whole.

Not in this case.....Johnson Central has been a Juggernaut in EKY for 3 years counting now. Wheelersburg is getting ready to host a team that is good as Ironton or Portsmouth, when they have very good football Teams. The "smart pick" IMO goes to the KY team.

I stated in an earlier thread that this would be the first test for the Golden Eagles, and that it will be. After reading the posts it seems that Wheelersburg has gone away from their Wing-T (without the wing, he's just spilt out farther, Pro if you will) offense? Maybe Wheelersburg still has some misdirection plays and passes off of them in their spread sets? Good Luck to both Teams.

I'm sure that other players on this list might fall into this catergoy, but Juan Thomas had outstanding stats both running the football and from his DE position. I honestly believe the Juan's bid for Mr. Football in 1990 was sealed when Lincoln County decided shut him down on offense and let the rest of the Tomcats, for the most part, run wild. Of course there was a pretty good back that won it that year, but IMO Thomas contributed more to his team.

I never thought they wouldn't be good???? For that matter I believe they could possibly be very good. I just threw that out there for BCStorm because I believe they have a talented Head Coach, as well as players, and was wondering if the Lion faithful thought the same.

y83 I think you have a great idea but retiring jersey numbers is not reality in High School IMO. I do think a "Hall of Fame" could work. The only problem I see with the Hall of Fame is to make sure that it made reference to all of the old school guys and gals, with the recent additions, and that would take quite a bit of work. Who knows maybe somebody will do it, but you couldn't use "school" money to do it. It would have to come out of the athletic budget or donations.

Its all formation based for moving Thomas to RB against Pikeville. When Thomas went to RB the QB usually only hands the ball off, so why not use the "tremendous athlete" at a spot that he can make an impact? I hope that explaination helps. As far as Ironton goes they have a living legend of a coach back at the helm this year and I'm pretty sure that Coach Hart and the Tomcats will not take the Tigers lightly. Ashland has many young players that need to learn how mentally prepare for game because IMO its not coaching or the lack of talent.

WOW...Its seems like Deja vu for the Golden Eagles again this year after several very good players graduated. Conner wasn't a great 4A team last year but impressive stats for JC in the win tonight. Next week will be the 1st district game for JC vs. Bryan Station...And to be honest I think JC goes to LEX and has their way with the Defenders. The real early season test for the Golden Eagles will come in week 4 against a good South East OH Wheelersburg Priate team.
