I saw some of the Highlights of this one on Channel 3 and to be honest I wasn't sure if Selby would be as good with the oblong ball as he was with that round orange one, I guess I was wrong. That kid has heart, and so do several of the other BC kids that I saw in the clip. I'm sure that the Lions are not into moral victories and will be a very good team in the weeks to come. Congrats to Russell on the win and good luck to both teams.

There are missed/bad calls in just about every football game I've ever seen, and I'm sorry you feel that way EKUAlum05, but just "aint" true. IMO Ashland gets their fair share of penalties and sometimes more for being the home team "Ashland". Just wait, Russell and Belfry might just get that tag too. It just takes a couple of calls that go their way in big games. By the way I can remember several VERY serious clock violations with a particular team that have been washed out though the years and IMO is much more shady than any official's call:sssh:

Shocked??? What about the 1997 Pike County Bowl? I never thought a team could go into Pikeville win by that margin. Of course this is 2007 and Maybe the Panthers will spoil the Tomcats bid at going 1-1. Good Luck to both teams!

Hillard Howard won three consecutive 1A State Championships with the Pikeville Panthers in the late 80's and their pride runs deeper than ever under Coach Jackson. Can the "mighty" Tomcats meet this challenge? I believe they can but this Friday will be a war.

If there's a Head Coach in the area that knows Russell better than Lee Evans let it be known on this thread. Obviously Coach Evans will need the horses to get it done, but I believe he'll get a soild game plan together for his Lions. Good luck to both teams!!!

Ashland won their last State Championship with 42 players 10-12. Numbers are not as important as some want to make it. Sure its great to have 70+ run out on the field but if 50 of them aren't goin to contribute on Friday nights what difference does it make? JMO. Congrats to the Raceland on the win.

I was wondering if that would come up;) The slowest starter on the O-Line wasn't much over 5 flat when he needed to get up and go, but then agian he was well over 300 lbs.

Of course the double edged sword is the combo of speed and size, but all anyone needs to point at is the success of Boyle County a few years back and see those 6'0" 180-200 lb kids swarming and devouring other teams. Point speed does KILL....

I too am gald to hear Coach Thompson clear the air of these slanderous statements. Good luck to both teams but I've got to side with the Royals in this one. No prediction but to say I hope its clean ball game with no injuries on either side.

Well those flags come out plenty early enough at Putnam;) But more often than not its against Ashland IMO. Last year's game between Russell and Ashland is one for the ages. Lets not taint it with all of this..... I'm sure Red Devil fans have NO criticism about the 2004 game at Putnam? Back to the topic....Ironton under Lutz will always be a force to be reckoned with in our area PERIOD!!!

You OBVIOUSLY have no clue what he's talking about when you play against the Mighty Tigers at "Tank". Of course it been quite a while since the Red Devils have played Ironton. I don't like the "What Ifs" either, but you can almost count on one TD being called back. Question mark me if you wish but I've played there and coached there and have wondered about several calls that were made late after it was clear the runner/receiver would score. Heck, maybe that hold was there but the official couldn't get his flag out quick enough???? Point is any visiting team had better come into Tank win no matter what happens or you'll go home with an "L". The last time Ashland beat Ironton was in 1990, but the Tomcats had to play ball control offense to seal the win late in that game.

"IF" those kids play. Did the 2 man hunting linebackers from JC play this year?

Now lets not put it totally in the kids hands. There are some occasions where better coaching will beat more athletically gifted teams. Some high school coaches can inspire their young men and that is the "X" factor IMO. Jimmies and Joes will become much better when a solid "program" is in place too. Back what it takes to be a State Champ...... Great Coach, Great Kids, and the support of the community IMO.

I understand that nobody is trying to run Coach McGlone off. Who in right mind would? And on that same note the coaches that have been metioned are great in their own respect! I'm sure they will be candidates "when" the job opens. I know that this is a "discussion" board but I just felt compelled to make certain we undestand Ivan is still the man at the helm of Russell and could be for some time to come. I've always disliked these "who will be/future" threads when the coach is still there. Agian JMO and hope you understand what I saying.

I'm one for letting a "still" working legend of NEKY football, and KY for that matter, finish his brilliant tenure before we discuss these matters. Maybe I'm wrong, but I believe Coach McGlone should be shown the respect he has earned by closing this thread until he does indeed retire from coaching. JMO

I know that we visit this forum to discuss what we think about high school football, but at some point we've got to leave it in the "coach's" hands and see what happens. I have "NO" doubt that Randy Vanderhoof and staff will do what's right for the Rams this coming season. I'm sure the RAM coaches remember how to run the ball if they so choose:D
