Its my understanding that the team can take the result of a play or the balk unless the batter reaches safely and the runners advance a base. My guess is that since the runner on first never reached 2nd safely then the team can enforce the walk.

Since the purpose of the IFF is to protect the runners, I'm going to assume that the IFF is still in effect. If so, the runner on 3rd is safe because he wasn't tagged. The batter is out.

You can't penalize Arrez for being on a deeper/better team. Arrez is a better all-around player but not as good offensively as Sorrell. I think if McGraw didn't have a bad back that the Sorrell/Arrez debate would be academic.

Eta - here's the one problem I see with your logic re: Sorrell. You say he has no help besides one player. If that's true, wouldn't that make it that much harder to score since everyone in the stands knows that Sorrell is "the man?" Yet despite trick defenses and getting the best defender, he still lights it up. Secondly, the implication that some make that he scores because he's the only scorer would seem to indicate he shoots a lot. I've said before that he probably passes up opportunities because in his mind someone else has a higher chance of scoring. If this were an "Iverson-type situation", I would expect his PPG to be high but his FG% to be low. My guess is that his FG% is very high. So we've got a kid that is the only option (and everyone defends HC that way) and he shoots a high % and scores a lot of points. That sounds pretty strong and legit to me . I'm not sure how many players could swap teams and put up Sorrell's numbers. I'd also ask you to reconsider your shot at the other boys on the floor. Unnecessary.

As much as I like Troy Timmerman, he's not playing varsity next year unless there is an injury. He needs to take the year at the JV level and continue to get better. He is still learning the qb position as I don't think he played it much before this past season. He's got the chance to be a good qb in 2009 and 2010. Its extremely tough for a sophomore DL to play varsity against the level of competition that CCH plays. Rob Grimes is one of the best DL CCH has had in a while and while he was forced to play his SOPH year , he wasn't physically ready. He battled and did OK but its a huge challenge. With that, I really like the way the Wendling kid plays.

Highlands becoming legit in baseball is good for all of NKY. Hats off to the coaching staff for making it "cool" to play baseball again. I can tell you that the JV coach has a true passion for teaching. My son will play against HHS yet the JV coach gladly had my son over to the school one day to work on his hitting.

The current rule says that its only a T if the official feels the player intentionally slapped the backboard. If he was trying to block a shot, there is no T.

I guess I would have to see what you're talking about. I can't picture how a dangling arm can hide the ball. Secondly, the pitcher still has to come to the set position for a second so how can I , as a baserunner, be confused that he may be starting his delivery?

Your question is one that many have. There seems to be a split amongst umps on whether to call it or not even though its in the rulebook and int he interpretations they receive. Some, who dislike it, are now calling it 100% of the time hoping that it will cause it to be reviewed after enough complaining.

Picture the following 3 positions while taking signs: 1. Throwing hand in glove. 2. Throwing hand at the side/back hip. 3. Pitcher bent over taking signs with throwing arm dangling straight down. Picture a pitcher dangling his arm trying to get it loose while taking signs. That's the "gorilla stance."

The FED rule says the hand has to be at the side or in the glove.

While its the official's responsibility, it doesn't preclude a T. A T should have been called and I don't think this is a case of "preventative officiating" nor do I think most officials would have handled it this way. It obviously would have been nice of they caught it but its still the responsibility of the sub and the player being subbed for. The rulebook is very clear with no gray area.

The coach is John Anderson (Walton '81). They seemed to have a very young and talented team last year when I saw them. I'd say with a year or two of physical maturity , these girls will compete for a district/region.
