Is having 6 people on the floor not a technical anymore?

Featured Replies

Saw it happen tonight and they just brought the ball back to the end of the floor and let the team re-inbound it.

I have never seen this and just wanted to ask the BGP refs.!

Well not in Carroll County, feel free to have 6 on the floor. I will tell you that it was very confusing for the girls when they were trying to match-up on defense.

WOW!

Thinking the same thing. Haven't heard the rule change. But not 100 percent on that. Should be a technical.

Did the Refs stop the action or was this, during a dead ball situation.

I couldn't believe they didn't call it. I know Coach Wilhoit was expecting it to be called and it should have been called. He was really upset at his senior for not telling the girl she was out of the game.

Refs stopped the action ( the inbounding team with 6 had thrown it in and were bringing it up the floor). The refs stopped, then brought the ball back. The Coach took a player out and the refs gave the ball back to the team.

I know I saw him shake his head at the no call. Everyone was amazed, both teams.

From an experienced ref too.

Could the reason have been, the ball was inbounded by one official, while the others knew and before it should have put into play?

That would be a correctable error.

No the girls were halfway up the floor. I think the coaches saw it before the refs. It should have been correctable, but the Ref just shook his head.

I guess the ref had somewhere to be and did not have time for the 2 foul shots. I would hate to see this happen in a distict game.

I believe by rule it is still a technical and ultimately the coach's responsibility to ensure he/she has the correct # of players on the floor. However, officials are also required to count the # of players on the court before putting the ball in play. The officials should never put the ball in play without counting and confirming the proper # of players are on the floor. It is possible that the officials in that game realized they had not done so in that instance and felt that they should not penalize the team who offended the rule because that was not the first time a team had 6 players on the floor in the game and they did catch it the first time when it was the other team.

I have no problem with and promote "preventative officiating". The majority of experienced officials in all sports practice this. I will say that it happens at least once in every sporting event & 99% of the time you never know the officials have done so because they do it so discretely.

It's not a tech anymore. jk

Ask the Corbin Coaches.... South Laurel loves to play 6 people on the floor (Guys 13th region final last year)

It should have been a technical.

Also, aren't the officials at fault here. Is not one of the responsibilities of the official NOT taking the ball out to signal 10 with both hands up in the air when the sub has been made and there is only 10 players on the floor.

I would guess since the official DID NOT do their job and ensure that only 10 players are on the floor, that is why no T was called.

Only adds to my comments on another thread about officiating. It is easy to miss something like that but it is all based on the crew you are with - you are only as good as who you are teamed up with.

Girls games aren't as fast paced or action packed as the boys and I think the refs get bored which is why they miss things. Just my take .....
