CovCath beats Simon Kenton 68/62 in Overtime

Fun game to watch.

How was the game? Back and forth, one sided until the end?

Any stats on this one? SK full health yet?

I highly doubt it..

Very good game until overtime when the refs were absolutely terrible in the extra period.

The three that called this game tonight need to quit officiating all together.

Congrats to the CovCath team.

Hopefully SK can play the way they did tonight in the post-season.

Maegley played a terrific game tonight and tore CovCath's big guys a new one.

I think if SK can get back a healthy Ponzer and Barnes in time for the districts, they could possibly make a serious run.

Would have thought CCH would have won by a little bigger margin. Credit SK fr hanging in there and playing a good game tonight.

After reading the paper this morning, it sounds like CCH needs to do a better job at finishing games. They had SK down by 10 and SK came back and could have won the game had they made free throws when they came back to tie. A W is a W though. Here's the boxscore:

Covington Catholic (18-7) - Shover 5 5 17, Roll 1 0 3, Bondick 6 0 14, Maile 4 0 9, Grimes 6 0 12, Schmerge 4 2 11, Isler 1 0 2. Totals: 27 7 68.

Simon Kenton (12-14) - Robinson 5 0 10, Slavey 4 1 12, Layne 2 0 4, Bishop 2 0 4, Sorrell 2 1 5, Dressman 2 1 5, Maegley 8 6 22. Totals: 25 9 62.

CovCath 16 19 11 12 10 -68

S. Kenton 17 9 16 16 4 -62

3-Pointers: C 7 (Shover 2, Roll, Bondick 2, Maile, Schmerge); S 3 (Slavey 3).

Congrats to the CovCath team.

One of the better high school games I have seen this year. SK makes foul shots down the stretch and the game never goes to OT. The three officials who did the game are probably three of the better ones in the 8th region. I didn't really think the officiating was all that bad. Maybe I am used to watching the region's officials by now. The one call that I did struggle with was the slapping of the backboard by the Cov Cath kid when the SK player went up for a lay-up. That used to be a technical but for whatever reason, nothing was called. Is this not a T any longer?

My thoughts on SK last night- Slavey and Layne should have gotten some confidence of running the point. Maegley (sp) needs to bottle that game and bring it come tourney time. Robinson and Dressman played like seniors nearing the end of their high school careers. Ponzer, Barns and Snyder get well quick.

The current rule says that its only a T if the official feels the player intentionally slapped the backboard. If he was trying to block a shot, there is no T.
