Harrison played okay for a half but then evidently folded in the third quarter. Mason is good with a lot of weapons among their first-line players. Really good shooters in Miller, Setty, Scott, MIddleton, etc... A little surprised that Mason kept those first-liners in until 4 or 5 minutes left in the fourth quarter. Must be important to them to keep that power rating up...can't think of any other reason for Miller and Co. to be in a game that is obviously well in hand, especially with a good Brossart team on tap tomorrow nite. Middleton stayed in until the 2 minute mark of the fourth. If he is sick, he shouldn't be out there. If he is healthy, he shouldn't be out there either, with a margin like that. I did notice that he got six points or so, late in the game, maybe that was the reason. No sour grapes from C-town...the Roylas are legit and much the better team. Just thought they could have pulled their franchise guys a bit earlier...

Mercer will kick a lot of teams before this season is over. You have them severely underrated. Pulaski will be tough to beat when they jell. West Jess's coach will keep them from overachieving. Garrard is better than expected. Quote above warrants an explanation. Apparently, you aren't a Hammonds fan. On what do you base your evaluation? I thought he did a pretty good job at Bracken Co. with not a lot of talent. Always was competitive against the upper echelon teams.

It's hard for me to understand why kids coming back from a Sweet 16 team would (a.) choose not to come out to begin with, or (b.) start the year, and then for some unexplained reason, quit the team. I was under the impression that Coach Starns had worked wonders down there, after all he got them to the State Tournament in his first season (last year) at the helm. What gives at JC?

Harrison Co. improved to 4-2 and Deming slipped to 1-6. Harrison Co. led 58-28 with 7 minutes to play, when the Breds cleared the bench. Deming's varsity outscored Harrison's junior varsity and freshmen 34-14 in the time remaining. Soph. Eric Case led Harrison Co. with 17, Jim Mullinns had 13 and 10 players scored for the Breds. Travis Massey led all scorers with 29, 16 of them coming after the game was well-decided in the fourth quarter.

Not sure if Joe B. liked Ronnie or not, even if he didn't, shouldn't have had much impact on whether Coach Rupp played him or not. Rupp was Ronnie's coach at UK...not Hall.

In '91, Jerry Fogle hit a buzzer beater as Harrison beat Maysville in the last game in the history of the storied Bulldog tradition. Huge crosd that night that stormed the floor when it was all over. Extremely exciting game the entire night, especially the last minute or two when the tempo was top speed and the lead changed hands a couple of times.

That is a good question Mustang...really don't know the answer...maybe it is an indication that we don't spel so good down hear (hehehehe). Really, it fits somehow into the school fight song and is just a corruption of the correct spelling that may occur in some other school mascots. Not exactly similar, but why are girls teams generally given a gender description before their nickname? For example Lady Royals or Lady Hounds or Lady Mustangs or Wild Kittens. Sorry I can't be of more help

Harrison County dodged a big upset bid by Nicholas County on Tuesday night. NC led 64-59 with less than a minute to play, but couldn't make any free throws down the stretch to seal the deal. Missed four straight in the double bonus to let Harrison Co. back in the game. Ultimately, Laura Kendall hit a game winning jump shot as the buzzer sounded for the one point HC win. LaDonna Turley scored 26 to lead the Fillies. NC was on fire from beyond the arc for much of the game. Would have been the first win for NC over HC since the Denkins days.

Boyle Co. 68 East Jess. 51

Male team in 1970 or so with Bill Bunton (6-7), Henry Huskey (6-4), Larry Haralson (6-9) and William "GeeGee" Gordon were among the best I've seen, as far as having a combination of talent and teamwork. Later Male teams with Wesley Cox and co., and then Griffith and Turner were also top of the line. Owensboro teams with Thruston and Higgs were good. Lafayette with Minnifield, Wilson, Johnson, was dominant. Can't go back much before 1970 or so, but have seen nearly all of them since then. PRP teams have always been a good combination of talented and well-disciplined and well-coached squads...for the most part, though, they have been a bit undersized. I will say that, in my opinion, the overall quality of the entire field of the state tournament is way down in recent years, when compared to the overall field in years past. We don't have the marquee players in the state right now that we had 30 years ago, either...every year in the 70s there was a marquee player(s)somewhere in the state that always seemed to make it to the state tournament...Cox, Higgs, Thruston, Griffith, Turner, Durand Macklin, Lamp, Raker, Eaves, etc... The very best teams that we have right now in the state, are probably as good as the very best teams 30 years ago, but the depth of quality teams is nowhere near where it used to be. Perhaps though, in another 30 years, people will reminisce about the Mason Co. team and Chris Lofton or the Breck team, or the ????????

I know it is easier said than done, but IF HC can keep the receivers in front of them and hit them hard after the catch, and IF they can contain Ammons in the running game, and IF they can play a turnover-free, grind-it-out kind of game, then I believe the Breds have a chance in this one. If it does rain, as expected, it may benefit the Breds a little. Of course, last week against EJ in the Mud Bowl, the Breds fumbled several dozen times...so maybe bad weather may benefit the Flyers. By the way, why was EJ's field so much muddier than all the other fields that hosted games on Friday night? Must have been a scattered thunderstorm that combined with a stationary front right over EJ's field for eight or ten hours. Not the first time that Harrison County has run into terrible field conditions at EJ. Two years ago the sprinkler system "accidentally malfunctioned" the night before the game and the field was a quagmire in the middle of a drought. Twice in two years kind of makes you go "hmmm."

Striclty looking at geography, wouldn't either Harrison, Nicholas,or Bourbon be the most centally located. I know from Harrison County, we are no more than 50 minutes from any school in the region, and most are much closer. For many years before the Fieldhouse was built, the regional tournament was held at Harrison County on an annual basis. We currently don't have the facilities to accomodate a boy's regional tournament, but if I win the lottery, as I am expected to, we will have a 10,000 seat facility and will host the regional every year.

Don't recall seeing this topic in the past...thought I'd give it a shot. At Harrison County, senior Evan Duszynski made a 47 yard field goal on Friday against Bourbon County. That is the second longest in school history. He also kciked several kick-offs into the end zone, which is a huge weapon in high school football. He has kicked for HC for two or three years and has developed into a pretty reliable kicker. The HC record is a 48 yarder made by John Pierce in the early 1970s. Pierce went on to kick at UK for three years. He may have been the last of the "straight-on" kickers at UK...I think every one since him has been soccer style. Between Pierce and Duszynski was John Herrington who won several games with last second field goals. He kicked a 49 yarder once, but it was in a JV game...so they tell me.

I still haven't seen a post on this topic that addresses the situation concerning the floor at the new gym. You guys can argue the topic of 10th Region Tournament location on another thread. I just want to know if there is an ongoing problem with the gym floor at the new MCHS gymnasium. What's the scoop?

I believe Mr. Burgandy was a bit harsh in his assessment of Boyle's players individually, but I tend to agree with the gist of his analysis. I think it is ludicrious for parents and fans to immediately condemn the coach when things don't go well. Have you been to each and every practice Monday thru Thursday? Do you sit in on film sessions? Are you REALLY in touch with the entire team of players and their relationship with the coaching staff? I have never seen a coach bench players with the intention of losing a game. I have seen coaches bench players because of poor performance, poor attitudes, something that was said or done in the locker room that was detrimental to the team, poor grades, immature behavior...the list goes on. I do not know Coach Pardue and couldn't name you another member of the BC coaching staff, but I am confident that there was a good reason for not playing those front line players, other than that the coaches are blithering idiots. The problem with most parents and fans is that the only gauge they use for evaluating a coach is what his current record is. Based on what I have read on this thread, BC must be in something of a rebuilding mode, which is not unusual for a rural county school, especially one that shares the wealth with another traditional power like Danville. Could it be that the younger players in the program may hold the key for a return to glory for BC in the next two or three years, and the coaches may know that and want to get them some significant varsity experience?

Is there any truth to the rumor that the new Montgomery County gymnasium might have some problems and won't be able to be used this year? This is supposed to be a facility that will challenge the Mason County Fieldhouse as a site for the boys 10th region tournament...if there are some problems, that will certainly put on hold the idea of supplanting the Fieldhouse.

Not sure the best way for you to get to Lexington, but from there, the best way is to get on US 27 North from Lex.; about 30 minutes or so from Lex. to Cynthiana. Go through Paris, use the by-pass there, when you get into Cynthiana, take a right at Walmart, stay on that road (street), cross a bridge over the river and go straight at the stop sign. Next stop sign, take a left and stay on that road as it eventually winds up a hill to the left. At the top of that hill, you will see the high school on your right. Football field is behind the high school.

Oh ye of little faith. Coach Graham has done a great job in the past of tailoring his offense to his personnel. I would almost guarantee that if the offense has changed, there are good reasons for doing so, and all the i's are dotted and t's crossed. He has been at HC for over 20 years and still gets little if any respect froma lot of people. I would suspect he is more widely respected by other football coaches and well versed fans than he is by HC's own fans.

Long-time assistant baseball coach for Harrison Co., Ronnie Herrington has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. He has been given about 7 months to live. He is probably the most important key to the success that HC has enjoyed in the last 30 yers or so. He has been Mac's right hand man for the duration and is irreplaceable. I look for Mac to hang it up sooner than many might think.

They lose Custard, Ross, and Giles, but they'll just reload... Harrison has some real talent in the 7th and 8th grade and will be "State" contenders for the next 4-6 years.... They may be down a little next year, but they got several 8th graders some experience this year that will prepare them for the future!!!

Is Coach Coldiron retiring, is he taking another job, or is he being forced out?

What is Coach Orr doing? Surely he left on his own terms.

Harrison returns 2 starters: Mullins and Talbott. Everyone else graduated. They have several unproven juniors/seniors next year and a Sophomore class that has a lot of promise.
