Best kickers in your school's history

Featured Replies

Don't recall seeing this topic in the past...thought I'd give it a shot.

At Harrison County, senior Evan Duszynski made a 47 yard field goal on Friday against Bourbon County. That is the second longest in school history. He also kciked several kick-offs into the end zone, which is a huge weapon in high school football.

He has kicked for HC for two or three years and has developed into a pretty reliable kicker.

The HC record is a 48 yarder made by John Pierce in the early 1970s. Pierce went on to kick at UK for three years. He may have been the last of the "straight-on" kickers at UK...I think every one since him has been soccer style.

Between Pierce and Duszynski was John Herrington who won several games with last second field goals. He kicked a 49 yarder once, but it was in a JV game...so they tell me.

I think that Covington Catholic has a great weapon at kicker in Shane Popham, who just made a 57 yarder, but it is hard to say who the best is with all the kickers in the last few years.

JC's best kicker is still playing. James Barrett has to be the best kicker in school history. He can boot the ball. His kick-offs usually go to the goal line and his field goals and p a t's are dead on and have plenty of distance.

Somersets kicker John Wright Polk is probably the best ever to pass through Somerset. He is putting about every kick-off into the endzone and is dead on when it comes to EPs and Field Goals.

Aaron Pettrey at Raceland. He holds the Kentucky State record for longest FG and is currently the starting kicker on the NO.1 college football team in the country., The Ohio State University.

I do not think we will ever see another kicker at Raceland with his ability.

You beat me to it cville. Aaron is an amazing all around athlete as well. I really hope that someday the school might decide to put up a plaque/sogn or something like that at the Field (Ram Stadium) to bring notice to this accomplishment long with his breaking of T. Couch's pass completion % record.

I feel that his jersey should be retired!! and a sign constructed as you have said. I have mentioned this before but got zero response. I will make the call tomorrow!! & see where it goes.

Bryan Barrett is the best ever at Cawood. He was an all-stater in 1986 and went to EKU. I think he hit a 51-yarder in the playoffs against Danville.

Dustin Wynn was a tremendous kicker at Middlesboro a few years back.

Merrick at Bell County may be the best one to play there.

Curtis Willis and Gus Hauser at Corbin

John Paul Walters and his son Phil Walters from Ashland.

Not my school, but Shawn Payne at Owensboro Catholic holds most of the kicking records, including longest FG at 54 yds.

Scott Lynch used to kick touchbacks all the time back in '87 and he won a regional title with a 47 yard field goal. Plus he put SHS in the state finals by beating Corbin the next year. That doesn't even count Mark Mounce who was a first team all-state kicker in '84. Just cuz you're young don't forget your raising. JWP is good but not the best that passed through Somerset. I'm sure he won't be 1st team all-state and he's far from putting SHS in the state finals. Good kicker, just not that good.
