Best kickers in your school's history

Featured Replies

Scott Lynch used to kick touchbacks all the time back in '87 and he won a regional title with a 47 yard field goal. Plus he put SHS in the state finals by beating Corbin the next year. That doesn't even count Mark Mounce who was a first team all-state kicker in '84. Just cuz you're young don't forget your raising. JWP is good but not the best that passed through Somerset. I'm sure he won't be 1st team all-state and he's far from putting SHS in the state finals. Good kicker, just not that good.

Good kickers had to be harder to come by back then, with the breed of kickers that are coming out of high schools now, JWP has to be one of the areas best right now.

Ola Tungswick at Morgan Co. Not sure of his record kick, Nets could give us the info. He went to Eastern, but hit the party scene too much and ended up going back to Noraway.

No one from Tates Creek has stepped up yet, so I will for them. David Akers who kicks for Philly, is probably the best kicker to come out of KY...

Shane Pophan from Cov. Cath. has to be mentioned as one of the best in the State right now.

For Russell it would be Daniel Meko or TJ Pettrey.

Brad Zoppoth - Kentucky Country Day School. He is getting offers to play in college at numerous schools.

To answer the question posed in the thread, my vote for CCH (and obviously there is a lot of competition from this year and last) still has to go to Michael Awadalla.

Steve (Skippy) Schulte for CovCath, class of '91, has to be considered as well.

Campbell County- Aaron Maines

I am surprised that no one on this board has mentioned Pelphry or Ackeres.

Sorry, missed it.

One of our Scott alums Doug Pelfrey. I must admit though, he wasn't that prolific in high school as a kicker. His opportunities were limited. He had tons of potential and was a very smart kid which helped him get to the next level.

Lynch was an excellent kicker. But the next year it was the Jumpers win over Danville in the AA semi-finals that put Somerset in the State Finals. I remember Somerset controlling Danville's run game well that night. :thumb:
