You beat me to it cville. Aaron is an amazing all around athlete as well. I really hope that someday the school might decide to put up a plaque/sogn or something like that at the Field (Ram Stadium) to bring notice to this accomplishment long with his breaking of T. Couch's pass completion % record.

I talked to a few people today about honoring Aaron and it is now in discussion by the folks in charge. I hope all goes as planned. Will give details when they become available if permitted to do so.

Dustin Wynn @ Middlesboro was a dandy, shame he never could get it together in college. I thought at the time that he might be good enough to kick on Sundays

Somersets kicker John Wright Polk is probably the best ever to pass through Somerset. He is putting about every kick-off into the endzone and is dead on when it comes to EPs and Field Goals.

I'll agree, I saw him at the Williamsburgh and Somerset game last friday, that kid has a leg!!!

While I'm on the subject, didn't Middlesboro have a kicker around 1998-1999 that set a state record for longest filegoal (63-64 yards?) However, this info is just "hear-say" so correct me if I'm wrong.:thumb:

Wynn hit a 57 or 58 , I think the only guy to hit one in the 60's was the Ohio state kid. high school of course. College and pro it's a whole different ball of wax

I did not know that Bironas played at Trinity. Wow 2 NFL kickers from this state. I am glad the Pettrey kid is doing well at OSU. A lot of NFL people think that Akers is one of the top kickers in the league, so I would say he is the most talented kicker ever to come out of the Bluegrass...

Jim Campbell from Williamsburg in mid 80's. Kick 6 FG in one game. Played 4 years at EKU and made it to last preseason game for Vikings before getting cut.Wish I knew more of his stats but I dont.

According to KHSAA site: Wynn of Middlesboro had three 50+ yard field goals....52;54; and state record 57. Aaron Pettrey of Raceland also is listed with three: 52;53; and the current record in 2003 against Berea of 58. Hopefully these are up-to-date. Popham's 57 yarder last week would have tied the old record set by Wynn. It is not recorded as of yet.

To clairify: Bosschers field goal to beat Trinity in the 1997 State game was 26 yards. The fumble that St. X recovered to set up the field position was recovered at the 16. So, X netted about 7 yards to the 9 on three plays.

It wasn't even close to that far. It was around 30 yards, max. Dennis Edge fumbled the ball around the 7 yard line, and X recovered, lost yards on three plays, and kicked the winner.

 

 

My bad I dunno where I got that yardage from. I was a senior that year so I guess I was caught up in the moment. :laugh: Maybe he kicked one that long another time that season.

I actually graduated from Danville, but best kicker from Boyle that I've ever witnessed was Taylor Begley, who also went to play for UK.

I am surprised that Eagle Eye hasn't mentioned Mark Gotcher. Kicker for LCA the time Pettrey was kicking for Raceland watched both of them kick 50 plus field goals and around 60 yarders during warm ups.

 

You are correct abou the LCA kicker Radioboy74, he was excellent.

I think it's great a KY guy playing for Ohio State. And like I've said many great kickers in KY now and in past.

 

However Pettry seems to be having a hard time kicking FG's, was just on the Official Ohio State Stats:

 

he is 57.1% on FG's this year and 20/20 on extra points, great 100% but not that many att.

 

I guess we get spoiled watching UL kick 20 extra points a game. :D

First of all I agree that Aaron's fg% has to be more consistent at The Ohio State University. Your comment about UL kicking your "overblown" 20 pat's a game":confused: :confused: :confused: I don't see what UL has tro do with pride in a local kid (Pettry) being the best kicker from my h.s.. My comments on Aaron at OSU was just some small town pride in a kid that has made it to kicking for the #1 ranked NCAA team in the country. Are you trying to get a shot in on OSU or trying to say that UL is better? If so ttt and start a thread on this subject.
