Taylor Begley without a doubt (went on to play for UK).

Then I would have to say David Jennings (went on to play for TCU)

Didnt Begley at Boyle set some National kicking records? He was the most consistent that UK has had in a long while.

Donnie Johnson at GRC. Went onto Campbellsville and became their all time leading scorer and punter.

Though not in the same league as the two above; two come to mind for Boyle from the Pre-Chuck era.

Jon Lee kicked for Boyle from '81 to '84. He did a pretty good job. Not the strongest leg but fairly accurate.

Steve Wright had the strongest leg in those days but not always as accurate. I think he hit for maybe 5 Field Goals is Senior year ('78) the longest of which was a 44 yarder versus Henry Clay that I swear might have gone for more than 50 if needed. He missed on a few EP's and FG's that year but did great especially for a "straight ahead" kicker.

For what it's worth, I think that Zlaton has a chance to be known nationally before it is all said and done, if he stays a football player from here on out.

Kicking lore I heard around the City/County Bowl. Wynn set the state record by taking some delay of game penalties that backed up the Jackets to the required distance for the new record. (True?) He also used to kick PAT's across the street from "6 Million Dollar Stadium" and once broke the upstairs balcony window(True?). Seems the Bell County kicker, Merrick kicked one that hit the house and landed on same balcony. Bell's kicker is only sophomore! Best is yet to come?
At Pineville when Wynn kicked extra points they used to make him back up and kick from the 20 or 25 yard line because the ball would land on US 25E and even still they had a State Trooper stand on top the hill just in case..
John Tackett from Ashland. Played in the early 70's, He was great on kickoffs.

Your right cat, big John would kick it out of the endzone every kick.He sure helped our d-fense and team with field position. He would use a string and tie the front cleat back on his shoe and kick it straight ahead.I wish we had a kicker now who could kick it in the endzone.

Terry Fish could do it too, held the record at Putnam on field goal forever.

I would include Tim Dougherty (X) and Karl-Heinz Williams & Ryan Tydlaka (T) in the mix. The former and latter had tremendous leg strength: Heinz Williams posessed extraordinary accuracy. Chris Gibson of Fern Creek was one of the best and was perhaps even better as a punter. Sam Erny of Manual also merits mention.

Sam Erny was awesome. I believe he had set some record, but I forget what it was.

The kicker we got after Sam graduated was a senior soccer player who was amazing as well. He ended up dating a girl who I have worked with for years and lived with for a little while.

Dustin Wynn (Raceland, now at The OSU) and Aaron Petry (Middlesboro) had the strongest legs for field goals.

Cov Cath last yr and this yr have had great kickers also.

Oops!:sssh: Sorry to bring it up, but....I believe you have them reversed.

The Bell Co. kicker, Merrick, consistently is kicking 50-55 yard FG's in pregame warm-ups. He is said to have hit 57, 58, and 60 yard FG's last spring as Freshman. Since he is only a sophomore, his leg strength should increase over the next two years barring injuries, etc.

I remember doing an Optimist championship when Sam kicked a 40 yarder when he was in 8th grade. Great kid-sorry it didn't work out at Marshall.

I'm not sure how to respond to your last sentence...
