  1. Which I think is a ludicrous way to do it. Maybe not such a big deal in the regional tournament with 7 of the 8 teams ending their seasons. But why would a coach put him/her self in a position to make other players unhapppy that they didn't get selected. any all-tournament team, regular or post-season, should be selected by media members in attendance, with no input from the individual teams. I have never been a proponent of all tournament teams anyway...seems to me that they cause more problems within each team. The benefit is individual recognition for players...but this is a team sport and it is the TEAM that suffers from potential turmoil from within.
  2. Lots of rain and high water over here...might want to find a drier place. MaCo should certainly win...I'll agree with that. Harrison Co. has no players that will play beyond high school and the Lady Royals do... Odds are stacked against the Fillies, for sure...don't see how they can possibly win this one, but stranger things have happened.
  3. Where will the Mason Co. celebration be held this year? Sorry, couldn't help myself.
  4. Harrison Co. has more diverse scoring than just three players, don't you think? Did you mistate this? I could see Harrison Co. guarding only three Mason Co. players, but not vice versa.
  5. Congrats to the Wildcats!! Really gritty effort, never-say-die attitude, got all the loose balls, defended really well, though HC didn't make them defend a whole lot. HC led by as many as 17 in the second quarter, but couldn't stand prosperity. PC missed a chippie at the end of the 2nd to take the lead, but you could tell where the momentum was. Tough loss for the Breds, but a really inspiring effort by the Cats.
  6. game is cancelled...not to be rescheduled this year...bad weather on Thursday
  7. Montgomery Co. @ Harrison County cancelled...no make up this year
  8. Gosh, it sounds like Coach Whitaker hired his own officials...when it was time to make a crucial call, did the officials defer to him before making a decision? If and when Coach Whitaker retires, perhaps he should hold coaches clinics where he teaches coaches how to whine or stare to get their way, since that was so obviously the only way Harrison County could defeat HHS. On a serious note, anyone familiar with 10th Region basketball probably will agree that Coach Whitaker and the officials that service the Region probably don't often exchange Christmas cards. Without a doubt, I would say he is probably the least well-liked coach among the coaches in the region by the officials that have him game in and game out. He is not, nor has he ever been, concerned with winning popularity contests...he is ultra competitive and always looking for an edge...probably not a bad trait for kids to learn in this ultra-competitive world.
  9. Refer to my earlier post, is the punishment meted out to Woodford Co. fFor a self-reported violation of playing one too many soccer games an equitable punishment when compared with the punishment handed down to LCA? I know that the current Commissioner is a graduate of Lexington Catholic and I am not saying that she is more lenient toward private schools, but the IMPRESSION after these two rulings is, at the very least, eye-brow raising.
  10. Harrison County jumped ahead 10-1 to start the game and led by 6 or 7 at the half. In the third period, Highlands turned up the heat defensively and cut the gap to one point. The Lady Birds took a two point lead with under three minutes to play, but Megan Bullock hit a huge three to regain the lead for the Fillies. Kacey Muntz hit a pair of clutch free throws to put the lead back to three with about 30 seconds to play. Highlands scored a basket to cut it to one, 39-38, then fouled with 14 seconds to play. Laura Kendall missed the front end for HC, but Highlands missed a couple of shots to win it. Really big win for the Fillies on Senior Night, especially heading into district tournament play.
  11. Correct me if I'm wrong, but in comparing what LCA did to what Woodford County did a year or two ago in girl's soccer (I think??) is flabbergasting. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Woodford County self-reported that they "inadvertently" played one two many regular season games. Their penalty from the KHSAA? Banishment from post-season play for that year. The entire team, school, coaching staff, parents, supporters, fans, etc., were forbidden to participate in post-season play. LCA is caught red-handed, not self-reported, offering illegal monetary inducements to student/athletes and NO PLAYER IS RULED INELIGIBLE, POST-SEASON SANCTIONS ARE NOT MANDATED????? Where is the equity in the rulings handed down by the KHSAA? Someone from Woodford County, please enlighten us with the specifics of your situation. Do you feel you were treated fairly, particularly after the LCA rulings fiasco?
  12. Any word on how the 38th District JV Tournament went today at Pendleton County? I believe PC hosted both the boys and girls JV Tournament.

  16. 38th District meeting and draw will be held at Harrison County High School on Monday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. Both the boys and girls will "draw" as the district is not seeded. Teams include tournament host Harrison County, Deming, Nicholas County and Pendleton County.
  17. Paris tossed a shutout til the 4 minute mark or so of the second quarter, but led just 10-0. Harrison County went on a mini-run to cut the gap to 4 a tthat point. I think the Lady Hounds led by 4-7 (somewhere in that range) at halftime. HC tied it in the fourth quarter, and had a couple of possessions to take the lead, but couldn't convert. Down three with less than a minute to play, Laura Kendall hit what appeared to be a three-pointer to tie the game, but it was ruled that she had a foot on the arc. Kacey Muntz had a couple of shots inside the last 14 seconds or so to tie it up, including a good look from the free throw line area as the horn sounded. Hard fought game by both teams...not a hint of bad blood between the teams throughout the game..hard-fought, but cleanly played game.
  18. any stats on this one, Mustang? Brief rundown on how the game played out? I listened to the first half and the Mustangs were up 12 at the break...have no idea how the 2nd half played out.
  19. Harrison County led throughout. Built lead to 10 or 11 at halftime, GRC fought back early in the third to cut the gap to two, but could never get over the hump. Fillies led by 10 with under two minutes to play, but had to hang on for the win, as GRC hit a couple of threes, forced a turnover or two to narrow the gap to 64-60 with 18 seconds to play. GRC has as physically a gifted team as Harrison Co. has played this year. Number 11 for GRC COULD be a tremendous player before she is finished in Winchester...don't know her name. GRC suffered with the loss of their big post player in the first few minutes of the game who went out with an ankle injury. Harrison County got good overall play from Laura Kendall on both ends of the floor, along with solid efforts from Charley Hatfield, Kacey Muntz, Megan Bullock, Jessi Jett and Brittany Murphy. None of the Harrison County girls will ever dominate a game by themselves, but if they all do what they can do and do it effectively, they can compete with every team in the region. However, if they don't, they can be beaten by every team in the region as well. You absolutely cannot compare scores, but it appears that several 10th Region teams are either raising their level of play to the Montgomery Co.'s and Mason County's of the world....OR those two teams are slipping to the level of the medium echelon teams. Not really sure which of those two scenarios is playing out. Harrison loses to Nicholas but beats Bourbon and GRC; GRC beats Rowan who defeated Mason; Bourbon upsets Montgomery, Paris defends night in and night out which makes them a serious threat to beat anybody ... who knows what will happen as the regular season winds down and the excitement of post-season play heats up. As always, the 10th Region will be tremendously exciting, first in district tournament play, then in the Regional Tourney.
  20. I believe Harrison County lost their entire starting five off last year's team as well. I believe Harrison County has one senior on their team this year, as well. I think the Franklin kid is the only senior they have this year...correct me if I'm wrong.
  21. Scott graduated most everyone from last year with the exception of Hiler. Harrrison returns Franklin and a core of Juniors. Look for improvement from last year. Players to watch: Clifton Snider, Simon Clouse, Van Isaac, Jared Martin, and Malcolm Thomas. Should be an exciting year on the "Hilltop", now that Harrison has football players now playing!!!
  22. Too much size, strength, speed, quickness and depth for the Breds. HC had a couple of opportunities early to take a one or two TD lead after LC turnovers, but couldn't capitalize. Seems strange to say, but LC methodically pulled away from the Breds with "big plays". HC had a handful of "big plays" themselves, but theirs didn't find the end zone...some big gainers, but were caught from behind, then the LC defense stiffened. Good crowd on the Hilltop and a great atmosphere, especially thru most of the first half. LC led 20-0 at halftime, but scored the last 13 of them inside the last couple of minutes of the second quarter. Congrats to the Knights and best of luck next weekend.
