I think, without a doubt, the era of having something of a "personal touch" with 10th Region Tournament basketball is long gone. When you take the tournament out of the hands of 10th Region folks and give it to a corporate entity, all of that "personal touch" is gone. I understand that the $4375 guarantee is a positive, but outside of the last two years, $4375 would be a "bad" year for a regional payout. There were many years when the $5500 threshold was reached and the non-participating teams earned a check as well. I also understand that the "guarantee" given to the 9th Region teams, who admittedly got their collective feet in the BOK door first, is substantially higher than what 10th Region schools will be paid out....seems like I heard something in the neighborhood of $6500 per school. You all can harp all you want about this being the last year for the BOK, but I would almost guarantee, when its the 37th's turn again, it will be right back there. Contrary to what was reported earlier, the four schools in the 38th District have not officially voted to have the 2010 tournament at Mason County...as a matter of fact, I believe there is a push to host it at Harrison County...seats 2500 or so and at $10 a ticket, that would be $25,000 a session or $100,000 for the entire tournament...I think all 2500 seats would sell out, don't you? Second option is to have the tournament at Pendleton County next year....1500 seats at $15 per ticket or $22,500 per session...four session would be $90,000. Apparently the almighty dollar trumps all

Addendum to my previous post about Buddy Biggs. Has he forgotten how to coach? doubtful Has he lost the passion for the game that he had three or four years ago? even more doubtful Is the talent pool at Ashland not what everyone thinks that it is? hmmmm. Give me an evaluation of the whole scenario with Coach Biggs at Ashland.

As a lifetime 10th regioner, I thought Buddy Biggs was a good hire at Ashland when he left Pendleton Co. a few years ago. Why has he fallen from grace among those "in the know" in the 16th?

Harrison Co. led the whole way...up eight going to the fourth quarter. Puckett, Martin, Reitz and Case all hit three-pointers in the first few minutes of the fourth period to stretch the lead. Reserves played the last minute or so. Both teams have a chance to be pretty competitive with the upper echelon of the region by Feb....gotta improve though.

According to Harrison County radio announcer Jim Swinford, the win by the lady Colonels tonight was the first win for BOCO over Harrison Co. in 17 years...31 game winning streak. Sounded like Harrison County couldn't make a shot in the first half and found themselves in a pretty good hole...made a run late in the game but came up short. I believe BOCO is 2-2 now and HC is 2-1. Both teams should improve as the season wears on.

I feel like something of an idiot...it may have been in another thread...but, who is "Coach Crawford?" Some of you obviously know him well and evidently he is well thought of in your neck of the woods...just give the rest of us, who are out of the loop, a little background on the coach and what he brings to the table.

Haven't seen Boyle Co. play this year, but have seen both games between Harrison Co. and Lexington Catholic. Although LC defeated HC easily both times, this year's Knights aren't nearly as good as last year's team. In the game last night, HC coulda, shoulda been ahead 14-0 or 14-7 at halftime. Early in the game, HC moved the ball pretty well against LC on the ground...never eaven threatened to pass. Two first quarter fumbles and another in the second quarter proved to be HC's undoing. The first fumble came after forcing a LC punt and driving to the LC 30 yard line...up 7-0 at the time. With 3 minutes or so left in the first half, LC led 14-7 and HC had the ball on about their own 40. HC chose to go for it on 4th and 2 and were stuffed. LC converted with less than a minute to go in the half and led 21-0. After the kickoff, HC had the ball on their half of mid-field again...about the 40 yard line again. With 11 seconds to go in the half, HC attempted a pass on the right side that was intercepted and returned to the HC 21 yard line with 3 seconds to play. LC made the FG to take a 24-7 lead to halftime. To summarize, even though I haven't seen BC play, everything I've heard about them is that they don't beat themselves, have a strong running game and a rock solid defense. Just don't think LC has the bullets to withstand BC, especially in Danville. Boyle Co. 35-7.

I don't think HC won the district last year...I believe Franklin County did. FC thumped HC pretty soundly in the regular season, but HC returned the favor in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

Harrison County scored in the first quarter on a fumble recovery in the FC end zone to lead 7-0. Stayed that way until late in the third. Some miscommunication by HC at midfield on a 4th and 5 situation. HC winds up running a play and getting stuffed instead of punting. FC took advantage and scored to tie the game. Late in the 4th FC had the ball inside the HC 20 but had a pass intercepted. In the OT, FC had the ball first and was stopped on a 4th and goal from the 1. Harrison County took the ball on their OT possession and QB Van Isaac scored on a bootleg run to win it. Not much of a crowd with the bad weather, but a heckuva game to watch. Hard fought by both teams. Defense and field position was key throughout. I suppose HC will play West Jess. at home in the first round and, it they win, will host LexCath in the 2nd round. Fc will host East Jess. in the 1st round and, if they win, will go on the road to Boyle Co. in the 2nd round. Correct me if I'm wrong on the playoff scenario.

Any body out there know anything about an upheavel of sorts within the Bourbon County coaching staff? Heard yesterday that BoCo is looking for assistant coaches at the high school level "immediately."

Cost per family is a concern of mine as well. $8 per person x four people = $32 Concessions are gonna be "Rupp Arena" --like, or so I've been told. Drinks......... $3 apiece (???) x four people = $12 Hot dogs .....$4 apiece (???) x four people = $16 popcorn.......$2 apiece (???) x four people = $8 ice cream ....$3 apiece (???) x four people = $12 10th Region Program ..... $5 (???) Can't remember what all the costs are at the Sweet Sixteen for concessions, but these are ballpark guesses, and probably pretty conservative. Someone with a better memory can post. Anyway, for a typical family of four, it isn't unreasonable to project a cost of $100 or so....just inside the arena...not counting gas. At Mason or Montgomery, you could expect about half the cost, I would guess. All the projections about getting four games instead of only one is valid for some, but not for the masses who generally are interested in seeing just "their team" play. It may turn out great, I'll withhold judgement until it all plays out, but I for one much prefer the 10th Regional Tournament be played at a high school campus venue...a traditionalist I guess.

An ealrlier post in this thread mentioned something about "heavy hearts" for the Carroll Co. group. I am in the dark...what happened recently to cause this sadness?

Is Coach Rowe still at Brossart in administration and as an assistant basketball coach, or has he left Brossart altogether for another opportunity elsewhere?

The play at first base that eventually led to Coach Martin's banishment to the bench...on TV replays on the 11 o'clock sports in Lexington, it looked like the batter/runner was out anyway...throw to the inside, first baseman makes the catch and tags the runner during the collision. He held the ball, didn't he? Seems to me the collision should have been a moot point, as the batter/runner should have been called out, in spite of whether he was inside or outside the 45 foot running lane. Anybody else see it that way?

After all is said and done, Harrison Co. may have beaten Lexington Catholic after all. Champa is not eligible to pitch tomorrow and Nick Maronde is finished for the tournament ( I believe???). Interesting that Champa was taken out in the fourth inning, after allowing no hits. The younger Maronde will now be called on tomorrow, I would assume, with Champa coming back for the finals if they make it that far.

Congrats to the Breds!! Overall, they played really well in both games against West Jessamine. Made several key defensive plays in both games and got outstanding pitching and timely hitting. Although Brandon Martin, a senior, has had an incredible year on the mound, the future of their pitching staff could be something really special. Four or five kids in the freshman class could develope into a staff that could be tough to deal with over the next several years. Hopefully, they will all stick with it and improve. As they mature, physically and mentally, they could be overwhelming down the road. The big question right now, who will Lex Cath throw against the Breds on Thursday night? I know Maronde has been pretty much untouchable during his career, but do the Knights use him in the opener? If they are playing to win the whole tournament, they may choose to hold him out until a bit later in the tourney...but if they do that, they may not get past the first round. It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Harrison County is now searching for a girl's basketball coach to replace Mac Whitaker who submittted his resignation earlier this week. Coach Whitaker led the Fillies to their only two Sweet Sixteen appearances during his tenure as head coach. Like him or not, the guy is a proven winner and will be tough to replace.

6 errors by Campbell, three in the first inning, but gave up just one run. HC committed five errors themselves, but the difference was Harrison Co. lefty Brandon Martin. He was dominant and able to overcome his teammates misplays. He pitched five innings and struck out 10. HC led 7-0 after 5 and Coach Whitaker lifted Martin for freshman Ryan Durbin to start the sixth. Martin is now eligible to pitch in the title game on Saturday evening since he went five innings or less. Had he pitched one more inning, he would have been ineligible to pitch on Saturday. Not sure how many coaches would have the kahunas to lift a starter in that situation...maybe a few. Durbin lasted two batters, giving up a walk and a hit. Seniior Cliffton Snider came on and surrendered a hit or two and eventually two runs, but that was as close as CC would get. Snider hit a walk-off grand slam in the sixth for the final margin. According to WCYN broadcaster Jim Swinford, Martin is now 12-0 on the year with a ERA of 0.33. WOW!!

Nothing official can be announced due to the required 30 day posting period that will expire on June 30. I believe this is true since a certified teaching position is also a part of the deal. I do know that a prime candidate has been pretty prolific offensively through the air.:sssh:

Weather permitting, Harrison and GRC will resume their game where it was halted at 5:30 on Wednesday. Campbell will play St. Pat at 7:45 The semifinals will be played on Thursday at 5:30 and 7:45 and the championship game will be on Saturday at 6:30. (graduation for HC and maybe others on Friday).

Did I miss another thread on this elsewhere? Is it just rumor, or is it substantiated that the Bourbon County boys coach may be on the move, opening up the top job for the Colonels? Perhaps taking another administrative job w/o basketball closer to where his wife lives?

four games on Monday will not happen. Both Harrison and Nicholas are in school that day...not sure about the others. Two games on Monday 5:30 and 7:45 (???) Two games on Tuesday (same times) Two games on Wednesday (same times) Championship Game on Thursday 6:30

Harrison County football coach Ray Graham announced to his players today that he will retire from public education and assume the position as Varsity Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Lexington Christian Academy. Coach Graham has been at HCHS for 25 years and will be sorely missed.

But why would a coach put him/her self in a position to make other players unhapppy that they didn't get selected. any all-tournament team, regular or post-season, should be selected by media members in attendance, with no input from the individual teams. I have never been a proponent of all tournament teams anyway...seems to me that they cause more problems within each team. The benefit is individual recognition for players...but this is a team sport and it is the TEAM that suffers from potential turmoil from within.
