Harrison County 6 West Jeassamine 2

Recommended Posts

Congratulations to the Harrison County Thorobreds who now advance to Applebee's Park to face Lexington Catholic in the Baseball State Tournament next Thursday.

Harrison County jumped on West Jessamine early and was never threatened enroute to the 6-2 win. Sophomore Jarrod Martin picked up the complete game victory and was named the Tournament MVP. Harrison County was able to execute and make the big plays tonight while West Jessamine was not. Harrison County overcame a horrible call at second base in the 2nd inning that helped West Jessamine get out of the inning down only 3-0.

In picking up the win, Coach Mac Whitaker recorded his 850th victory as coach of the Thorobreds. Congratulations to the Thorobreds and Coach Whitaker. Harrison County improves to 35-5 on the year with only 3 Seniors on the team and a starting batting order made up of 2 Seniors, 6 Sophomores and 1 Freshman. Good luck to the Thorobreds and Coach Whitaker and Staff as they face off against Lexington Catholic on Thursday.

Congrats to the Breds!! Overall, they played really well in both games against West Jessamine. Made several key defensive plays in both games and got outstanding pitching and timely hitting. Although Brandon Martin, a senior, has had an incredible year on the mound, the future of their pitching staff could be something really special. Four or five kids in the freshman class could develope into a staff that could be tough to deal with over the next several years. Hopefully, they will all stick with it and improve. As they mature, physically and mentally, they could be overwhelming down the road.

The big question right now, who will Lex Cath throw against the Breds on Thursday night? I know Maronde has been pretty much untouchable during his career, but do the Knights use him in the opener? If they are playing to win the whole tournament, they may choose to hold him out until a bit later in the tourney...but if they do that, they may not get past the first round.

It will be interesting to see how it all plays out.
